  1. I see high school kids wearing lacrosse tshirts now and then here in the cities. I also see kids wearing alpine skiing club tshirts. It's a niche sport.
  2. Finally. The state of North Dakota has two great leaders running the two most important institutions in the state by far: NDSU and UND. We've got two great Wyoming guys who are guaranteed to work together on the academic, research and athletic fronts. This is the best possibile situation for the state and the future university students of the state. The best possible outcome, IMO: 1) Chapman and Kelley work together to get the NDSU-UND football game back 2) They work together to get UND into the Gateway and Summit 3) They work together to solidify several cooperative research products, pooling both school's resources in order to be competitive for grants at a national level with peers like U of M. 4) They work together to either close some of the states small universities or turn them into junior colleges. Those are my top 4. Anyone else?
  3. I think the best they can ever hope is to pair up with A&M Corpus Christi. But even CC is a 3 hour drive for a charter bus. They just don't have a real great situation to work with. Perhaps going down to DII and getting into a Texas league is the only realistic option for them?
  4. That's how we felt about SDSU when we both started the transition. But after the Marker was created the football series essentially started anew and now each team is 2-2, with the home team winning every time. It's gotten really heated the last two years. I hope that continues well past when NDSU and UND start playing for the Nickel again. And guaranteed they will. If they have to change the one side from an indian head to an interlocking N and D, I personally will guarantee that the Nickel will be played for again in the next 5 years. I'll make it happen.
  5. I guess I don't see why the OVC is expanding since with Samford leaving they now have an ideal 10/9 nonfootball/football membership with Morehead playing non scholarship football. I think Chicago State is the number one expansion target. With their new 30 million dollar on campus arena, the should do ok in bball. I think/hope Centenary goes away and we add Chi State. Now if SUU goes away too we'll be forced to add UTPA, which is not a good move.
  6. Then why aren't you at UND's club team games? Right. Exactly the reason it's a club sport in the first place.
  7. Fullerton is just a commissioner. The presidents are the ones who vote yes or no. And by far the western state presidents were concerned only with costs to travel out to the Dakotas.
  8. By far the most significant issue to the western schools was travel to the Dakotas. They couldn't afford it and didn't want to think about it. UM/MSU splitting off a new conference with the Dakota 4 was never even in the forefront of the discussions.
  9. I would not be in favor of the MVC. I would much rather make a go of it in the SL with a new Dakota based foundation of NDSU, UND, SDSU and USD. Along with Oral Roberts, Oakland, WIU, etc. Montana and MSU wanted NDSU and SDSU in the Big Sky. The rest of the Sky told them to go **** themselves, they weren't paying the money for travel. UND and USD ain't getting in. It will be west coast or mountain teams only.
  10. Of course. DIII would be contingent on ice hockey scholarships priveledges. Is DI lacrosse worth the millions it takes to keep DU in DI? Not to mention operating costs increasing as an independent. Hockey always will be king at DU. I think they can live with DIII lacrosse. Esp. if they can restart the CC rivalry in all sports. Perhaps they can restart football at the DIII level as well. Another great potential rivalry with CC.
  11. Big Sky will never expand to the Dakotas. The rest of the conference could give a sh*t what the Montana schools want. Montana schools are gearing up for a WAC jump anyway. Probably won't be in the Big Sky after 10 years. Without the Montana schools, there is zero incentive for any Dakota school to join. You're a lier if you say playing schools like Northern Colorado, Weber State and Portland State is better for UND than playing NDSU, SDSU, etc.
  12. I've always said that Denver should get out of the Sun Belt. I've been advocating them going DIII for some time. As I said, they can continue participating in the sole NCAA skiing championship and they can play up to DI ice hockey, just like CC does.
  13. I'll take Denver and Chicago State over SUU and Cent. But I doubt Denver ever comes to the Summit.
  14. So the Sun Belt is now down to (assuming that DU and UNO are gone): Ark State football Ark Little Rock no football FAU fball FIU fball LA Laf fball LA Mon fball Middle Tenn fball Western KY fball South Ala adding fball Troy fball North TX fball Looks like they could easily add TX State when they move up to FBS in the next couple of years and have a perfect balence of odd number of fball teams and even number of travel partner non football teams. Doubt that LA Tech wants to reduce travel costs. Look at WAC football last couple of years. All you have to do is win the conference and go unbeaten and you get to play in a BCS bowl.
  15. Tulane only had 6 sports after Katrina. I think they are slowly adding them back. No on in the NCAA dare has the balls to call them out on not having the required 16 sports (14 for UNO) yet. Maybe in 5-10 years if they still aren't back up there.
  16. DU should drop to DIII and join Colorado College in that conference. They could play up in m/w ice hockey and would still be able to participate in the singular NCAA skiing championship. They could even bring back football and restart the DU/CC rivalry.
  17. I always liked what North Carolina and Indiana do with the state outlined at center court. Anything other than that damned half and half ball.
  18. That may be the case, but doesn't it make sense to have the entire football operations at the Alerus instead of Memorial?
  19. Ok, so obviously you guys don't like Paulsen. What is it that you think he did to UND to make you hate him like this?
  20. I have a hard time believing that studios just give away their content to anyone with a private dish receiver. Maybe you can receive it, but the signal will be encrypted.
  21. 2/3rds of the problem is solved. Nuclear plants are proven technology and we have all the domestic fuel we needed to provide the energy we nedd now and a growing future. Couple that with solar, wind, geothermal, etc. and we are set. Electric motors of all sizes are proven efficient ways to create the motion we require for all daily functions of life, whether that be for personal vehicals of all sizes, trains, planes, tractors, and trucks. The last problem that needs to be solved is of course the huge one. And that's efficient, portable energy carriers. Batteries don't cut it right now for all but simple tasks. Fuel cells are inefficient. Hydrogen storage is a problem. Biofuels made from crops are a waste of time. Cellulosic biofuels are worthwhile but it's doubtful they can ever take on the full load. Untill we solve this last problem, we are slaves to gasoline and diesel and those who have it are our masters.
  22. Very doubtful. Equestrian has an even lower chance of being added than ice hockey at NDSU. But not until then? No, no, no. No lacrosse at UND until it becomes popular in NDHSAA high schools throughout the state. Not the other way around.
  23. And I'm saying that there will be no lacrosse coops because there won't be any small schools with interest in it period. You're thinking of SDSU. They are starting equestrian. Not NDSU.
  24. So UND is the only school left in the nation that has a Native American nickname?
