  1. With both Faison and Kelley telling them that the nickname needs to be dropped in order to get into the Summit as quickly as possible, the SBoHE will find its gonads right quick. If there were no big rush to get into the Summit, then you and Sic would probably end up being right...wait until Nov and do nothing. But there is a call to action and the SBoHE will stand up to answer the call.
  2. Right, because as we all know everything must be documented and all things documented must be made available to the public. Don't throw a tantrum if the Nov date is not upheld.
  3. But which clock matters? Nov 2010 or June 2010? If someone in power at UND, ND SBoHE or the Summit League would come out and basically say that UND has a guaranteed spot after Nov 2010, then I would shut up and be fine to let the clock tick away until this Nov. We all know nothing is going to get done, even until then. As you aptly put, each side is content to sit on their hands for another 7 months and do nothing. But as far as I know, if nothing happens by June, UND loses at least another year in the Summit. And it's another year lost for no chance at saving the nickname. Worst case, Summit moves on and UND doesn't find a conference for 5-10 years, again for no chance at saving the nickname. Why risk it? So what if the ND SBoHE has to take the fall as the 'bad guy that killed the nickname'. Step up and be the leader.
  4. I just think it's funny how far some on this board will go to spin any news into saving the nickname. This is obviously the nail in the coffin for the nickname and the SBoHE will be retiring the nickname tomorrow, in turn prompting the ND supreme court to dismiss the SL lawsuit. Yet you might think the nickname supporters just won a key decision if you listen to the board spin masters. I just want this over with so UND can get into the Summit and everything will be behind everyone. The new way forward partnership between NDSU and UND will be another step closer to reality and all you old-timer, anti-change folks can sit on it.
  5. Once again, this board is falling over itself moving mountains to make it look like something that is obviously negative for the nickname is, oh wait just a second, no it's actually positive! Yeah that's it! The SR board, in it's infinite wisdom and foresight, actually is pulling the maneuver of the century and grabbing the power for themselves! Yeah, that's it! I'm sure it wasn't an attempt to do something severe enough to get the SBoHE to retire the nickname but not severe enough to take the heat for ending the nickname themselves. No, that couldn't be it.
  6. Then again, if the SBoHE retires the nickname on Thurs the supreme court can dismiss the case as moot and move on to much more important things. Come on SBoHE...do the right thing. End this debate! Everyone is looking to you now to step up and be the leader!
  7. Sorry, too reasonable. Thanks for the idea though, I like it!
  8. It's still 5 shares for the Horizon. That's real money for the conference. Why wouldn't the Mich State win count for another share?
  9. Interesting post on Butler's potential windfall for their run in the MBB tournament. Would UND get anything near that for winning the men's hockey national championship? http://anygivensaturday.com/showpost.php?p...mp;postcount=22

  11. I don't care about the Sioux nickname/logo one way or another. Retire it or keep it, doesn't matter one bit to me. My only goal is to get UND in the Summit as quickly as possible. If retiring the nickname/logo is the easiest way to do that, then that's what I advocate.
  12. Like I said, the UND athletic department won't see a single cent loss of revenue from 'official' merchandise sales.
  13. I'm going out on a limb and saying if Standing Rock says no today, the SBoHE will retire the nickname on Thursday.
  14. The good thing about merchandise is that it wears out, so people keep buying new. There aren't that many ultra-bitter fans like you who would boycott any Sioux-less merchandise, so I think it would be minimal.
  15. What does the UND AD do now to measure how much money they're receiving from 'official' UND merchandise sales? Whatever it is, keep doing that and see that there is no drop-off in sales.
  16. That was probably too far on the opposite extreme. But I certainly don't agree that to have DI bball, football, hockey, baseball that you should have to have DI soccer, track, tennis, swimming, etc. just to be allowed in the division.
  17. But the Summit will have at least one member in the tournament every year. So that is money you're missing out on every year you're not a member. Plus, when (not if) a Summit member wins a game, that's more money. And when (not if) the Summit gets two teams in, that's more money. Get on board or keep losing money in the Great West, a pretty easy decision for a businessman.
  18. UND won't lose a cent in merchandise sales if the Sioux logo can no longer be put on 'official' athletic department gear. People will keep buying kelly green and black 'UND Hockey' gear. Nice try.
  19. Not so fast, re: sport sponsorship requirements. Take a look at U of Texas, as an example. Not exactly Harvard when it comes to the number of sports being sponsored. I'd be more interested in less sports sponsored but at a higher level of funding and average attendance, to be DI. As I already pointed out, Butler only spent $1.7 million in 2008-09 on MBB, not much more than NDSU and UND comparatively when you consider that the U of Minn spent over $5 million!
  20. I don't buy it. Give the Summit + Dakota flagships a few years to mature, then we'll see who's having their way with who.
  21. Actually, the Summit League received money from the NCAA MBB tournament for Oakland's game. UND missed out on that money by not being a member of the Summit. It's not much, but more than none.
  22. Take away Butler and the Horizon is no better than the Summit once all of the Dakota flagships are in.
  23. Thanks. It's refreshing to see there are still some UND fans who don't think that every dollar should be given to the hockey program and then, if there's any left over, to the football program. Men's bball has the potential to be the biggest sport at both NDSU and UND.
  24. What comes first, the chicken or the egg? The bball program has good facilities. That's the first step. Now it needs good coaching and players. But you need to spend money to get a good, young coach who will go and recruit those players he needs to win. If you refuse to spend money on the program until it wins on its own, you could be waiting for a long time until you get lucky with a good but cheap coach.
