INS/ICE was swept into DHS after 9/11. Possibly, since foreign nationals may be involved in these sites, especially if they operate from US-based servers, I could see ICE having a small role, but the larger role will go to DHS' other arms.

A MIP is nearly a rite of passage on most campuses, and not just for athletes. Repeated MIPs and/or DUI borders on stupid, and deserve to be treated as such.

Most "cyber crimes", such as online copyright violations, are handled by DHS. If there's serious money involved you can call in the Secret Service and FBI. Same as if these streaming sites were also used for malware attacks, hacking, DDNS, etc. So "inconsequential" or not, the feds take this stuff pretty seriously, and they do have a pretty decent track record of jailing repeat offenders. Throw in the fact you have copyright owners with serious bucks on the table, and these sites will probably not be long for this world.

UND sophomore forward Danny Kristo is out indefinitely after sustainin

Lightweight. Our crew was at Whitey's, the Antique or Frenchy's nearly every night. -
Agreed. Even smaller players like Gionta had to cut their teeth in the college and AHL ranks for awhile. The right college program (read: UND) is a cheap development team for the NHL.

UND sophomore forward Danny Kristo is out indefinitely after sustainin

Hopefully, he wasn't as dumb as some people who wore Birkenstock or other sandals in January to look "cool" when I was on campus. Moreover, hopefully he recovers soon since the Strib says he's at Regions in St. Paul. -
Considering that North Dakota's biggest "export" tends to be its educated youth, I think their proposal is pretty myopic. Restricting non-resident students, or making it more expensive for them, is no way to make the universities or the state more appealing to anybody, especially if you're trying to expand the economic base beyond oil and ag.

"I am very surprised to find Tom thought there was pressure put on him to speak out on this issue," Kelley said. "There has been some urgency on our part to get this resolved. I think he felt some urgency on our part. But I don't recall every putting pressure on Tom as he implied. So, you have Douple who believed he was pressured by Kelley, but nothing express, either in writing or witnessed by somebody else, that suggested Douple publicly oppose the name as a prerequisite to admission to the Summit. Without more, I tend to believe Douple is doing nothing more than trying to cover his own a$$ for losing UND to the big, bad Big Sky. The name/logo should have never even been an issue for consideration, and it's a credit to the Big Sky they don't appear to have made it part of their membership criteria. The fact the Summit did was shows some pretty myopic judgment on Douple's, or whomever's, part. As are as the "I don't recall" spiel, who remembers what they had for breakfast on October 2, 2009?

Can't get streaming media through the firewalls here. Anything interesting?

Yeah, you gotta hate that pesky North Dakota Constitution ... always getting in the way of political attention whoring.

And they are only allegations at this point, from fairly suspect sources. I presume Kelley was doing what he believed was in the best interests of the school at large, and not the name/logo or the provincial interests of a few people who only see REA as UND. I don't see him as an NC$$ Fifth Columnist, or a plant from 'su to undermine the school. He's an administrator who has to administer a fairly unwieldy enterprise and manage a variety of stakeholders' expectations. The school and its mission are much more than the Sioux name/logo or the hockey team. Yes, I know that revelation may shatter a few Busch Light sodden egos, but it is what it is.

Jesus, all of this rehashing of past issues reminds me of women who can't forget the last time you left the toilet seat up, or the local idiots who think "the South will rise again". 1. UND got into the Big Sky, a better and more legitimate conference that met UND's needs and ambitions. 2. The Summit folks should have never let the name/logo issue became a ticket to admission, esp since the issue wasn't fully dead. They paid for it accordingly. 3. UND and the Board agreed to settle the name/logo issue on the terms of the agreement. The hurdles agreed to, e.g., permission from two tribes, are part of that agreement. 4. The legislature probably doesn't have the legal authority to revise the agreement or prevent UND from abiding by it. If they force a breach of the agreement, you will have a real !@#$ storm on your hands, and you may kiss the D1 dream good-bye. 5. I don't trust anything Kolpack writes. He makes Perez Hilton look absolutely credible. 6. UND losing the name/logo was the implicit price for a relatively smooth move to D1 in all sports.

I am firmly of the opinion that too many people enter four year colleges at 17-18 years of age utterly unprepared and unmotivated. I see it whenever I have to hire for our summer clerkship and internship programs. It's "the thing to do", because the parents think so, or your friends are going to college. I didn't start at UND until I was 23, and had finished a nearly six year hitch in the army. I got to campus and it was not a problem to do well in the classroom, work 15-20 hours a week, party and generally enjoy myself. I'm not sure I would recommend a tour in the military to everyone, but there's no reason so many kids have to be sold a bill of goods that they need to start college right after high school.

Try this instead ... Seriously, I hope the weather is kind to you guys this winter/spring.

"They're probably going to want to beat us," Blais said, "worse than they want to beat anyone else." No, you're not coaching Minnesota. Yet.

Yep. Sales of flasks and "Big Gulp"-type cups will be pretty brisk. Maybe the old "Coke" and "Pepsi" can wraps will come back. I think I may get in on this racket ... "in the presence of a minor" WTF does that mean? Is there a certain distance they have in mind, like ten miles? Idiotic drafting makes lawyers very happy ...

I seldom agree with the Hurled's editorial board, but they seem to have done their homework on this latest tantrum.
-
Say what you will about the Post, but their sports writers are some of the more astute in the NY area. From my own point of view, I would not be surprised to see ZPar at least test the market, especially if the Devs haven't really done anything to rebuild their franchise.
-
Perhaps they should have thought about this 3-4 years ago when the fight was still going on. As it is, the settlement pretty much scuttled UND's use of the Sioux name/logo, especially since neither SR nor SL really got into the game until after it was too late.

Commodore's on waivers from Columbus.

Hopefully the team doesn't believe the hype, and plays Robert Morris as tough as they would Denver, Minnesota, etc. Now is not the time to start buying into press clippings, message boards and polls, instead of playing our game.

Yep. That New Orleans NFC title game about did it for me.
