Damn straight. I would love nothing more than to have the Sioux take their 8th Title, and get some national TV exposure for the name/logo as they ride off into the Sunset.

Somebody say something?

Probably yes, Penn State will bring more interest and money than those poor guys "down south". Even if it wasn't a done deal, I wouldn't be surprised if Penn State had unoffiically expressed "interest" in D1 hockey to a few CCHA people around the time the UAH decision was pending.

Much more pleasant around here ...

With a big crystal dome over it. And maybe a high-speed, underground train so students from Fargo can commute to CAS in time for 8:00 classes.

UCLA does. Besides I was thinking more about schools like Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, etc. rather than the morass on the left coast.

Until 'su gets its own medical and law schools, it will not be a "flagship" as far as other state universities are structured. Moreover, the fact "flagship" is singular, not plural, means there can only be one "flagship". And as for the proposal to "merge" 'su and UND, that's probably more asinine than dumping the Sioux name/logo.

Where can we get Sioux Jerseys after next year?

A quick search of Amazon revealed a lot of Sioux gear for sale, including K1 hockey jerseys. -
Where can we get Sioux Jerseys after next year?

Glad I stocked up before the "madness" finally took over. -
I was talking about some sort of one-sided agreement where UND might play there 2 series, and Minnesota only has to play 1 series at REA. It's sort of what happens now with the "natural rival" nonsense, but there's no reason UND should be bound to it for NC play.
-
I was playing with Brad's theory that Minnesota may have the stark choice of playing a bunch of NC cupcakes at Mariucci, and face the possible revenues lost relative to say, UND or SCCC playing there, or having to travel to NC sites to meet a contractual obligation and writing a check for travel. UND generally plays NC games at REA and away based on its deals. I doubt UND would agree to solely play at Mariucci and deprive themselves of that revenue. A Tech or Ferris State may not have that power. Minnesota has the luxury of fairly close traveling except to Alaska, or if it ventures east. Their travel schedule would be even closer, and probably cheaper, in a Big Ten conference. Playing NC opponents in Boston, GF or Denver would reduce any possible savings in that regard. As a practical matter, I would be very disappointed if UND did anything to accommodate a move of Minnesota and Wisconsin to a Big 10 conference with regard to scheduling, or otherwise.
-
I think UND will have no choice at some point but to move beyond its D2 heritage if the hockey gods decree some sort of realignment. I think UND, ND, DU and Miami would be naturals for each other in hockey and could anchor a new hockey conference or some revamped conference. There could still be school-by-school contracts for annual matchups. No matter how you slice it, Minnesota and Wisconsin benefit ($$$) whenever the Sioux come to town for hockey. So a move to a B10-only hockey conference may not necessarily sever those rivalries, although scheduling could be problematic.

Fighting Irish "hositle & abusive"? Should we let NCAA kno
ScottM replied to Sioux Fan in Sioux Falls's topic in Men's Hockey
Nice, but tired try. Nobody, including the NC$$, will ever tell the Golden Domers their name is "abusive" or "hostile" and get the same treatment UND received. -
There's already a "flagship" university in the state, and it's not 'su.

How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?
ScottM replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in UND Nickname
Would you please stop quoting this idiot? It's much more pleasant around here with him on "ignore". -
Ryan Potulny just signed a one-year deal with the 'Hawks. So maybe I'll finally have a reason to cheer for him.

The more I think about it, I believe UND's D1 aspirations would probably drive it to align with other schools with D1 sports. The current array of non-B10 schools in the WCHA is largely D2. It would make no sense for the D1 movers to schedule Michigan Tech if they can get some multi-sport D1 deal with a Miami or ND. I think the non-D1 schools like St. Cloud, Bemidji, etc. would have more difficulty doing the same, and they may be forced to align themselves into a different group.

How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?
ScottM replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in UND Nickname
As much as I hate the fact the name/logo are out the door, I attended UND for reasons well beyond the name/logo. The education I received there has served me well, and taken me pretty far in life. I made a lot of great friends, and still have many fond, albeit somewhat foggy, memories of campus, and off-campus. I may detest the current Board and the administration with regard to their mishandling of the name/logo issue. However, I see no rational reason to punish the school, or its current or future student body, for the actions of a bunch of political functionaries. Moreover, as a practical matter, I will try to target my donations to programs or areas that I want to see advance, rather than allowing them that much discretion over my money. -
I didn't see this posted elsewhere, and couldn't think of a different place, but here's a Canadian take on the rise of US prominence in amateur hockey, epsecially at the U-17 and U-18 levels. Linky

Considering how much money Minnesota and Wisconsin hockey make off their current rivalries, I wonder if any extra TV money would compensate them for the lost gate of playing PSU, Ohio State, etc., instead of UND, St. Cloud, etc.
