    WWU vs UND

Thanks Ryan, I didn't realize you were doing it again this year. Nice job, and nice access you have I had hoped to have a new area to make it easier for people to share this sort of media and get it more widely viewed ready to go before the Fall sports started this year, but looks like it will be a bit longer.

  6. 60 minutes of penalties -- all earned in 2 minute increments.
  7. Detroit, Devs, Sioux -- you just pick the easy teams to be a fan of! Yankees or BoSox?
  8. And the only shootout goal, to give NJ the shootout win
  9. Cal Poly 42, South Dakota St 28 - Final SE Louisiana 26, Northwestern St 21 - Final UC Davis off to a good start vs. Iona -- 24-3 w/9:54 remaining in the 2nd
  10. It seems like games at Mankato are always rough. 64 mins of penalties in January, including two 5's and two 10 game DQs plus lots of roughing, fighting, and unsportsmanlike conduct.
  11. Kind of quiet around here today... SE Louisiana leads Northwestern St 9-0 at the half Cal Poly leads SDSU 13-7 w/5:24 remaining in the 2nd quarter NDSU trails Northern Iowa 13-23 with 9:09 remaining in the 4th. They were down 6-23 at the half. Idaho St plays Northern Arizona at 8:35ET UC Davis plays Iona at 9:00ET

  13. The site will be unavailable for a little while on Sunday, October 19, for some maintenance. It should be less than an hour total, but I'm not sure what the exact time will be.

  15. This thread so far demonstrates why I've always feared politics on the board. People who could otherwise happily sit around debating the Sioux become absolute jerks to each other, and it's likely to taint their impressions and reactions to each other's Sioux-related posts outside this thread, this doing actual long-term harm to the community. I was leery when I saw a post on taxation, but hoped a discussion on economics could occur without becoming political. Ever the optimist, I'll resist the temptation to just close the thread, but please only continue debating if you can do so without the personal attacks on each other. This is certainly an area in which good people can disagree.
  16. The inevitable post-loss post from a fan who's indignant that others dare criticize a losing performance has indeed become quite predictable Seriously, though, I don't see anyone getting ready to return their season tickets quite yet. Good effort by the Sioux. Looking forward to the start of conference play at the always tough to visit Mankato.
  17. UND to increase security on alumni tracking methods
  18. Yeah, that's in line with what I suspected above -- the claim there is that students/schools knowingly allowing the use of student athlete names in fantasy leagues is a violation of the promotional restrictions, which would result in athlete ineligibility if not actively prevented. The timing is still interesting, in that you've been doing it for years yet they cracked down on you right when CBS and the other big boys decided to begin using NCAA athlete names in fantasy leagues. However, this certainly isn't the end of the lawsuits and I sure wouldn't want to ignore a cease and desist and become a test case.
  19. They don't own the rights to the players names, but it is a violation of NCAA rules for a student-athlete to be involved in the promotion of a commercial organization. I would guess that is what's causing the athletes' schools, not the NCAA, consternation. However, the timing of crackdown on AZSIOUX's game is interesting. Until this year, NCAA fantasy football providers have avoided using names (they would instead refer to "North Dakota Running Back" and so forth). This summer, a court decision in regard to MLB suggested that players' names are in the public domain. So, this year for the first time, NCAA football fantasy providers have been referring to players by name. As to the NCAA itself, it doesn't like fantasy leagues but doesn't know what to do about them: Myles Brand's take So, one could join CBS in testing the applicability of the precedent, but we're almost certain to see additional appeals schools and student athletes bringing their own suits, so it's certainly tempting to leave it to CBS which has deeper pockets and more to gain.

  21. Seriously, that's what I wonder every time I see one of these stories. I guess most of my real jobs have been in places that are pretty serious about data management, but I have troubles even imagining life in an organization where grabbing a complete copy of an important database and throwing it on a laptop seems like a reasonable or even sane decision. In unrelated news -- UND alumni should watch their credit card statements to make sure their involuntary $10 donations go through, it will appear on your credit card statement as "siouxsports.com".
  22. In MBB's last season in D-II and the NCC, Emmanuel Little had 134 FGA and made 64 FGs in conference play.
  23. 1365 = total attendance at WBB's 3 neutral site games in 07-08. That average of 455 per game was dragged down significantly by the 75 total people in attendance for UND's game vs. Oklahoma Panhandle St at 3:00pm on Dec. 2.
  24. Since I had the spreadsheet lying around, I gave the INCH predictions the same treatment as the coaches poll. The verdict? INCH has been a more accurate predictor than the coaches poll 4 of the last 5 years. Just remember -- past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.
  25. I would have said the exact opposite -- I found pre-lockout NHL unwatchable because skill players were continuously and systematically obstructed. Immediately after the lockout we were able to see players skate, and pass, and shoot like they hadn't been able to in a decade. If someone made the mistake of obstructing, we then got to see that talent shine even more in a 5-4. Watching a powerplay is more interesting hockey to me than: skate to the center line, get mugged, dump the puck, chase it hoping to regain control in the attack zone, have someone on the other team pick it up, repeat. Unfortunately, obstruction was creeping back in quite a bit as a defensive strategy in the last two seasons, and I felt like officials really started letting things go last season. I see about 10x as many NHL games as college, and when I watch a WCHA game I find the current "let them play" mentality to make the game look amateurish and players less talented than they really are. I'd love to see the league follow through with its annual threat to crack down, and am confident the players and coaches would adjust. To each his own, I guess.
