  1. Thank you. I couldn't agree more.
  2. I know he's a big, tough guy, but I'm not sure he'll still be playing for THAT long
  3. Work your way up and earn your spot in the big leagues, Joe. It would be fun to finally see a Sioux out there for the Caps.
  4. I like that Chris is a former UND student and WCHA school alum, makes Gemini seem much more like supporting the local pub (or coffee shop, if that's your thing) than big corporate Nike.
  5. In 11/87 the Sioux hockey team hosted Providence for a conference home game, winning 6-4.* *WCHA-HEA games counted in WCHA standings from 1984-85 through 1988-89 seasons
  6. Mar. 30 John D. Odegard, founder and dean of UND Aerospace, received the prestigious Frank G. Brewer Trophy presented in 11/88 by the National Aeronautics Association for "his distinguished and inspiring leadership in creating new educational opportunities."
  7. Mar. 29 Colleen Chaske (1987-89): A native of Devils Lake, N.D., Colleen Chaske, a 6-5 center, was an All-North Central Conference player in both of her seasons as a member of the women
  8. Mar. 28 After a brief return, we seem to have lost SiouxMD I'll try to catch up... UND claims to have 1190 distance learners this Spring (09). Who knew? University of North Dakota reports more students
  9. Let's try to leave Bisonville on Bisonville. We generally prefer not to see disputes from other forums dragged over here, and Bisonville in particular has historically been welcoming and even encouraging of UND vs. NDSU smack, so if you want to jump into the fray, doing so over there is probably most appropriate.
  10. While it's true that the nature (and even format) of the tournament has changed dramatically over the years, this sort of fan reaction to success has certainly been seen before. It's a little tired already, but the best WCHA analogy for fan reaction really is Woog, who also started with 4 Frozen Fours then an NCAA tournament appearance. He continued to make the NCAA tournament for the next 7 years including 2 regular season titles and 3 WCHA tournament titles. By that point opponents' fans, and quite a few Gopher fans, were mercilessly criticizing him as leading talented teams that always choke on the big stage. Two losing seasons and he was out, despite 12 tournament appearances, 4 regular seasons titles, 3 WCHA titles, and a 390-188-40 (.66) record in 14 years. My point? I guess that fans of successful programs mercilessly expect continued success. Making the big stage only placates people who didn't expect to make it (e.g. NDSU basketball fans). I personally call it the Denny Green effect, because that was the first and last time I personally fell for it -- putting together too successful a regular season year after year just begins to annoy your fanbase when you never finish it up in the playoffs; fans come to take your year-after-year success as assumed, as a given, and wonder why you aren't delivering more. It's not shocking to see a small number of Sioux fans utter similar murmurs in the last couple years as the drought turns 10 (though I personally think 5 years is way too small a sample to make any such claims about a very successful and obviously talented coach). However, while I think it an interesting discussion, brianvf is also absolutely right that it's a bit of a downer for an '09-'10 Sioux thread. Fighting Sioux 2009-10: we're bringing in a bunch of new talent, the Sioux are so far undefeated, and the possibilities are endless. I'm looking forward to the kickoff of a new decade of Sioux hockey.
  11. After the first round, I have 2 correct picks and no possibility for any more. Everyone I picked to win any future game is already eliminated Bad picks
  12. I was similarly thinking... NOW Sioux fans will be happy that ESPN doesn't cut away from an OT game in progress that has gone dramatically outside its timeslot (unless of course ESPN does cut away, in which case I really wouldn't want to be the person listening to that answering machine on Monday ).
  13. Man, I was kind of rooting for Maryland.
  14. Here we go lacrosse fans. Just 3 minutes and 39 seconds away from the longest lacrosse game in NCAA history. UNC lacrosse
  15. Fun fact (I looked it up): the longest lacrosse game in NCAA history was a 6OT game in 2002 when UNC defeated Navy 11-10.
  16. You must have missed the bleachers on the other side, there are about 5000 in attendance.
  17. We can all just comment on the lacrosse game and the thread will be indistinguishable from a hockey thread: Quit cycling, take the shot! What's up with these refs -- horrible whistle! Where did all the scoring go?
  18. I, too, was thinking it was a pretty good game.
  19. One per team per OT period.
  20. Yep, 4-minute sudden death OTs repeated until someone wins. The nice thing is they don't have to resurface the ice, so they start up pretty instantly.
  21. Wrong sport, I know, but the refs are trying HARD to hand Mich St. - Kansas to KU. The Spartans have them beat, but the refs seem unwilling to accept it. 15 sec to go. EDIT -- that's it. MSU advances.
  22. Jossy Bergan scored 11 pts in UND's 91-62 defeat of Jamestown on Dec. 2, 2008. recap
  23. 90 of us (1/3 the entrants) are 0-for-3 so far. Go Bulldogs!
  24. Edit -- it all looks ok to me, now (I was working on it when you wrote this message). Let me know if you still see anything that looks wrong. The Notre Dame vs Bemidji cell was misplaced below the game instead of to the right of it, but everyone did pick Notre Dame to win (almost).
  25. For yesterday, Mar 26 In the uranium portion of this June of 1976 NDGS Newsletter... I'm not even going to try to paraphrase, just quote... I wonder how that worked out for them?
