It's a little early to throw in the towel -- the last 2 TDs were really just a couple big plays. The offense finally gets a chance. This is where we need to shake off some of the nerves and start to take a little control.
-
Yeah, Mussman hinted at that in one of the Herald articles. The Sioux O needs to both chew up some clock and get some points (though I wouldn't turn out a kickoff return for a TD

Free video is nice (and decent quality). Hopefully that will be a side benefit of being FCS -- playing "bigger time" programs increases the likelihood of them having free web video. Ugh. TD Lumberjacks after a big run.

Thanks Bob -- I always appreciate your insight. Didn't get to see the game myself, so it's nice to see this sort of analysis.

Southern Utah valiant effort on a comeback vs. Northern Arizona. Down 24-42 with about 6:30 to go in the game, SUU put together two 80+ yd drives (w/a 2 pt conversion) to bring it to 39-42. SUU got the ball with 0:11 to go on their own 26. Completed a ~20yd pass, but got tackled for the end of the game. Final: Northern Arizona 42, SUU 39

Sheesh, of course it is. Once again, the GWFC composite schedule that I loaded has it wrong, listing it as UND @ Cal Poly (though location is Grand Forks). As promised above, I had already learned my lesson and will go through everything loaded from that schedule and double-check it, hopefully this afternoon.
-
Apologies for my contribution to the confusion -- SiouxSports just loaded the GWFC composite schedule, which still (incorrectly?) lists it as 7pm CT, while the NSU schedule clearly lists it as 6pm CT. I really should double-check them all, as I remember the GWFC schedule getting at least one wrong last year, too.

Spirit Lake passes resolution for 'perpetual' use of Fighting Sioux nickname
-
When I read the language in the first article (essentially that the council has recognized that the referendum was valid), it didn't strike me as sufficient to satisfy the NCAA, let alone the SBoHE (which requires an explicit 30 year contract). It's fair to assume the latter is somewhat fungible, and Stenehjem said he thought the resolution was sufficient to satisfy the NCAA. Since he was directly involved in the negotiations, I stopped questioning it. The three statements you quoted, taken together, are reasonably direct support for the continued use of the name. However, it would have been nice if the council instead would have just come out with their own statement of support for the nickname, citing tribal sentiment as the reason (throw in a 30 year approval window, too, since they knew that's what UND needs).

Yesterday: Football fans attending last year's game vs Idaho State could listen to a special in-arena broadcast on their radios tuned to 101.9. So says UND. Huh. Today: 10/18/2003 -- UND's final NCC football game, and what would prove to be last D-II game, vs. NDSU (28-21ot win)

In terms of actual news, you really have to credit UND for taking its direct publication up a notch this season. They've done a great job with all the news and videos around football so far. No doubt, if you just want the official news, the forum would not be the most efficient way to get it. My goal for this site has long been to create a one-stop place for Sioux-related information, including information that doesn't come from UND, and I've thought of the forum's niche as a place for discussion of it all. But, you will always have gotten news slightly quicker by checking each original source itself. I do find it curious that the UND Athletic Dept, which has explicitly prohibited its employees from participating in Sioux-specific social/new media such as this forum, now encourages them to participate in Twitter. Nonetheless, nice to see some attitudes changing. Particularly for people like nodak hockey fanatic and me who have no other reason to use Twitter itself, I'll take this opportunity to point out the UND sports twitter feed on the front page of SiouxSports.com.

Every year there's some discussion about variable ticket prices. Though it's generally accepted now that big games cost more, remember Bison fans' indignation just 5 years ago? I've been wondering when teams would start to take the next step and adjust tickets in real time based on market demand. Enter Dallas Stars with dynamic ticket pricing. Are hockey fans, scalpers ready for 'dynamic' ticket prices? Given airlines' apparent success at doing it for decades, and the inexpensive availability of the necessary technology, it's surprising sports teams haven't done it until now. Maybe not much point to this sort of scheme for UND hockey's big games, in that they sell out within minutes, but as quick as UND is to jump on revenue-maximizing trends, it's a safe bet someone is paying attention.

When looking at the GWFC scoreboard on ESPN just now, I see TTU's Potts atop the weekly leaders (at this point in time). Current stats, 11:02 4th qtr: 34/55 421yds 6TDs Rice vs Texas Tech What I was really looking for was GWFC updates -- Cal Poly is about to put away Sacramento St, 38-19, with 9 secs remaining in the game.

I'm not sure they're different. "Mine" (which is the photo directly from UND's FightingSioux.com) is the only photo that shows them lying flat, not on a person/dummy. If on a person, particularly one in full pads, you'd lose a lot of the white space to the person's sides.

Edit -- MissSioux85 beat me by seconds, but I'll leave this because it has the green also.

I've done worse.... I know I've used them at least once, I wonder if the Lamoureux's will be the most cited Sioux ever in this thread (despite not yet having played a game as Sioux)?

Time for a beginning of season shameless plug -- if you're looking to do some reading while waiting for tonight's game, you might want to start here: Football News Lots of news out Texas over the last few days. And if you've seen anything that's not there, you can go ahead and add it.
