  1. I'm not sure why this thread was dredged back up, but I'm happy to respond. I agree with you. That's really what this thread is about, isn't it? If you start on page 1, the problem was that a Bison fan jumped into a random thread about UND and tried to start turning it into UND vs. NDSU smack. We stopped it and Bison fans got upset that we intervened too quickly to stop the smack, claiming that we wouldn't have done the same if it had gone the other way. I remain unapologetic for cutting any trolling off at the source, and complaints that I shouldn't because some other smack managed to survive longer is specious at best. The primary topic of this board is UND. If you want to talk about UND, fan or opponent, you're welcome. Though on-topic smack (e.g. with an upcoming opponent pregame) occurs frequently, just jumping into non-smack discussions and trying to smack UND will get the thread closed, and after many infractions, you suspended. There will be some discussion of NDSU because they're a regional school, went through a transition similar to UND's, and their conference movements undoubtedly affect our search. However, such threads will unapologetically be from a perspective of their impact on UND, because it's a UND message board. If you see a thread that you think is out of hand or contains unnecessary smack, don't assume we're just letting it go, assume we haven't seen it and report it!
  2. Hmmm.... not much excuse for the travelling, thanks for the insight. I didn't hear any of the game, so as I said, I did appreciate the updates.
  3. I'm not sure a high school team would've managed to force the same number of turnovers (that is, a vastly superior team can affect the turnover ratio). From the articles, it sounded like we were going to treat this as a real exhibition game, testing all the players instead of necessarily playing our best game. It would have been nice to do better, but I wouldn't be too worried about losing to Purdue. Thanks for the updates!
  4. As someone with absolutely no legal training, I had a very different impression. The affidavits didn't say much, but I found the brief pretty well written. Big parts of the brief are weak rehashes of UND's hostileness that didn't seem particularly strong or relevant to me, but when the legalese kicks in and case laws starts getting cited in the arguments (beginning around page 23), I found many of their arguments applicable and compelling. Of course, the point of such a thing is only to include the arguments that bolster your case, so the state will undoubtedly fill in the holes with good counter-arguments and precedents of their own. Their "balance of harms" argument against the injunction basically relies on the association being voluntary, and therefore having every right to self-govern, but UND having no right to host a football game. It's a good argument, but that's what this whole case is about, I guess. Be sure not to miss exhibits 1, pg. 20, a letter from our very own Mr. LaPointe complaining that he wasn't allowed to distribute merchandise with unlicensed versions of UND's trademarked logos.
  5. I've always been puzzled why people focus on the "hacking" (guessing a password) aspect of this. The real story to me is that this individual, the champion of how the nickname leads to abusive behavior, was caught red-handed fabricating the very racist material he speaks out against and that he claims proves the nickname is a problem. There was plenty of suspicion when fake racist blogs and t-shirts, that appeared at the most possible opportune times for the anti-nickname crowd, eerily resembled racist diatribes I've never heard from anyone other than GK. There's still no proof that GK was involved in any of those, but he's since been caught in one incident of fabricating anti-Native American racist material. I can see why the Dakota Student doesn't want to touch that with a ten-foot pole, but I also wouldn't have held Mr. LaPointe up as a model champion of his cause.
  6. I was going to point out the same thing, that whoever is covering it for the Herald is probably traveling right now Meanwhile, to keep us entertained: Just Warming Up, Boilermakers host North Dakota in exhibition game Friday night Purdue wants to make history, not dwell on it UND basketball team is all new and ready to play
  7. When the Sioux were at Madison, the scoreboard updates for other WCHA teams abbreviated SCSU as "Cloud State".
  8. I think it hurts a little, from a media coverage standpoint, to have them be the opening games. I know it sounds kind of silly, considering the media circus the start of the basketball season is at many schools. But at UND, no one's mind is on basketball during the traditionally weak-opponent Fall season that overlaps with football and the start of hockey. If the Sioux want to see some serious media attention, winning one of them would do it
  9. I like to call it a forum.
  10. Where's Sioux-Cia, I'd have thought she'd have something to say? Oh, yeah, she doesn't have access to a computer right now. I think I know what she'd say, I guess I could try to post something for her...

  12. Nah, they're not pretending to be siouxillustrated.com; siouxillustrated.com abandoned the URL so someone else bought it and is delivering different content to anyone who still has that URL bookmarked, memorized, or linked. The original site no longer exists (though Sioux Illustrated will reappear online with the new fightingsioux.com website), so these people are directing ads at people who are still trying to visit the defunct site. As cheap as domain names are these days (I think <$10/year), it's a fairly common business tactic to snatch up expiring domains on the assumption that expiring names are names that someone else previously deemed to have value.
  13. Not hacked, just bought. UND apparently just didn't renew the domain name when they quit putting it online and someone else bought the name. http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=...illustrated.com It's reasonably common to buy expiring domain names and fill them with ads, on the theory that they'll still be getting some traffic and may have resale value.

    Manke

No faith in Belmore after yesterday? I was wondering who would start the first "Belmore fan club" thread
  15. Oops-- they changed the link on me, but I didn't notice because the old one still worked. All fixed now.
  16. Shameless plug: All current blog posts about Sioux hockey from any blog (in addition to news stories and message board posts) are available at the SiouxSports.com front page. For finding college hockey blogs in general, I also highly recommend CollegeHockeyBlogs.com.

    NDSU Football

Lay off the trolling. If you want to participate in a real discussion about I-AA conferences, we have a forum for that. If you're just here to smack/taunt Sioux fans, go away.

  20. Though they've gone 1-2 since this post (with the two losses being conference losses ), the team is definitely in decent shape at 14-9 overall, 10-7 in region, 5-4 NCC. This weekend begins a 3 game home stand to end the season. At 9th in the region, the Sioux stand a good chance of making the NCAA tournament if they can finish strong. The final game (a week from Saturday) against Duluth will present a big challenge and could (if things go well this weekend) be the deciding factor as to whether the Sioux advance or not!
  21. Love these quotes...
  22. This is kinda weird.
  23. Scary stuff, but I'm pretty sure Farce did get it. Of course, if I were writing a parable with allusions to the master storyteller, I would have used an evil alliance, reevers, and six shooters.
  24. You're entering some dangerous territory there, my friend...
  25. Q. What happens when the worst Big Ten team in years (sorry Northwestern) plays a top I-AA? A. Apparently nothing. Definitely feels like anyone who gets a touchdown will have amassed an insurmountable lead. The teams are a combined 3/6 on FG attempts; NDSU is 0/3 in the red zone with 2 FGs; Minnesota has never been in the red zone.
