I do not think people are going to be confused by the name, only if they went to NDSU would they get confused. Having lived in Iowa for three years and just finally escaping. It seems like half the team down there are the Hawks the Little Hawks or even the Co hawks. It will not be a problem.

Yes Calvary does have religious overtones, but Cavalry is Military. I realize it is easy to confuse them. But I still like it as a nickname.

I think that the new nickname needs to be either Roughriders or Cavalry! Hands down the best ones out there. I think everyone should go look at the Cedar Rapids Roughriders website and look at their Roosevelt logo, it is their alternate logo but it is cool. Something similar would be a great logo. Sioux forever!

Said like a true Bison fan. I hope they come calling for NDSU's name next. This whole thing is a complete joke, the NCAA jsut wanted to push around a school from North Dakota to show they still have power. Lord know big schools never get what is coming to them. I wish they would go after Notre Dame, but the NCAA makes to much money from them and money is all the NCAA really cars about.

One would think that the NCAA has better things to do then worry about a logo and nickname. Ohio State should keep them busy for a while, with all the problems with other schools. I would think this is the last thing they should care about. Go Sioux

SCSU is also the school that has more swastikas paintings on the walls per student than any other school, ever! They need to shut their pie holes and get their own house in order before bitching about any other schools.

Why are so many people on ss.com ready to throw away the best nickname and logo in college sports? It seems like there are a few people left that want to keep the name and so many now are saying change it? I think that UND needs to keep the name and challenge the NCAA, someone needs to. Do you people not think the it is the least bit fair that a school like Ohio state cheats left and right and will probably get less punishment then UND because they disagree with a nickname, that is the sad part of all this. I have said before someone needs to stand up to this people and I for one am proud of the State of North Dakota for doing so. I realize some are so concerned about the Big Sky conference, but I do not think it is worth throwing away almost 80 years of tradition for the Big Sky conference.

No that is not what it means, so you only care about football and basketball? No it means, sometimes you have to stand up and fight for what is right. If the NCAA really gave a crap about Native American names then big schools like Florida State and Utah would be transitioning to a new name too, bu this is a power play by the NCAA to push a small school around in a small state just because they think they can. I cheer for all UND sports and I hope they do well. But someone has to stand up and say enough is enough.

I think that the NCAA should be done away with ASAP. Schools like Ohio State can cheat left and right and have players selling stuff and coaches lie about it and they will have less done to them then UND. All because of a nickname.
