I can't say as a current or former athlete because I'm neither. But if you are talking about fan noise and involvement to intimidate players Id say lynah rink in Ithaca tops the Ralph. I take that coaches statement to also include the level of competition he is/was playing against

Well there were no smart phones, no hang out bars, and the way I remember it, the old engelstad wasn't considered a social event the way the Ralph is now. I think a much higher percentage went to the old engelstad to watch a hockey game.

I've been to the ralph a number of times, as I'm sure most of you have. The atmosphere is what it is. 11,750 is a lot of people and I'm sure most people are tuned into the game. But there's way too many in attendance that I'm not sure why they even go. Glued to their phones, up in the bar, or sitting having ladies aid with their girlfriend. I'll put it this way. Traveling sioux fans bring much more atmosphere to most und games away from the ralph.

It's not just Twitter. It's almost all the news I've seen covering his death. The story that's been out out there is he was a "innocent black boy" with his arms in the air saying don't shoot and ended up being killed by a white cop. Chris Rock was on cbs Sunday morning yesterday asking how many white boys have been killed by cops recently. And we have Obama going on national tv addressing the issue and admitting there is corrupt police departments. Well no $hit! What a great time to come out and say this!

Why is it that all I hear about in the news regarding the Michael brown shooting in ferguson is in regards to an innocent black boy being killed by a white officer? Why does no one bring up what he did before the altercation? What did he do? I can't find it anywhere online but I heard it mentioned on the radio he robbed a business then approached a police car and made an attempt to steal the cop's gun prior to being shot dead. I don't know the full story because all the news stations feed us is what they want us to hear. But if these acts of thuggery are true why are all these idiots rioting? What is the deal with the Rams players trying to fire up more crazies? I can tell you one thing I will never spend a dime to support the nfl.

Anyone having problems with NCHC.tv tonight
Redneksioux replied to SiouxFan in DU Country's topic in Men's Hockey
On the mobile browser it doesn't give me an auto setting to lower the quality for a slower internet speed so I'm guessing that's the reason the feed freezes up on me a dozen times per game. Feeding my tv with Google chromecast worked great this weekend though! Using mobile data it uses less than 1.5 gigs per game. -
He's got his own bodyguard! Haha

I wouldn't count on a couple blowouts. I'd guess lake state is jacked for this series and I also predict und will play down to lake state's level at least 2 periods if not 3.

Mine stopped a number of times last night in the third period. Probably on my end of it wasn't happening to anyone else though. -
I had to refresh mine. Annoying I need to retype password when I refresh.

Viewing options for Sioux hockey games this season
Redneksioux replied to fightingsiouxfan86's topic in Men's Hockey
Seems to work quite well so far! Only Internet at my house is cell phone data. I was able to connect the wifi with my phone's hot spot function and use my wife's galaxy s5 to pull up nchc tv to watch a few minutes of last Saturday's game in St. Cloud. Picture on my 50" tv actually was better than the live feed on my computer last Saturday. I wasn't able to get it any data just using my phone. Anyways I'm curious too see how much data I end up using tonight. Past games just using my phone as a modem on my pc I've used 1.5 - 2 gb per game -

I picked up a chromecast at Walmart this morning for 25. Will see if it works for me tonight -
There may be years they might be the best and there are years they might not be. So far this year it appears they may be one of the worst.

Ok so the Sioux are a bigger draw in St. Cloud than St. Cloud is in grand forks. I guess it's practically impossible to compare what rinks have the best atmosphere but from my experience the atmosphere at the Ralph generally is lacking. Don't get me wrong out of all the games I've been to(I'm sure many on here have been to more than myself) I've seen the Ralph rock pretty hard. Sioux gopher games, world junior championship, the west regional, and a Denver game maybe 6 years ago. I know there's been more at the Ralph but generally the place has more of a social NHL type atmosphere pretty comparable to the leafs games I've been to. I just prefer the smaller and cozier college venues.

Very unique architecture. I thought the alfond was ugly from the outside but when you step foot inside it makes sense. I liked the placement of the student section in the 2nd level and every seat seemed very close to the action. Very tuned in fans and just being there made me feel like I was in the middle of the action on the ice. If I'm back out near Orono during a game I'd go in a heartbeat.

Maybe I've only been to az once and it was a quick trip to see Hoover dam during a Vegas trip. Out of the few college hockey venues I've visited my two favorite were bemidji's old arena during a Sioux game and Cornell's rink. Was at both Sioux games in Ithaca and have been to a couple non Sioux games there too. Very neat and loud little rink.
-
Maine, quinnipiac, Cornell, rit, bemidji, St. Cloud, Duluth, Harvard, mn, Mankato, Denver, and of course und.
-
I have not been to those arenas when the Sioux weren't in town. I see what you are saying but I have been to a number of other college hockey games not involving the Sioux as well as a few whl games. All arenas were louder than most of the games I've been to at the Ralph. I've also seen the Ralph rocking on a number of occasions. With that said, the fan's decibels will be higher this weekend in St. Cloud than they will be in February when St. Cloud plays at the Ralph. That sounds apples to apples to me. You can stand up during a big play in St. Cloud without being yelled at to sit down. You can cheer in St. Cloud without fans looking at you like you are a crazy at the Ralph. Better atmosphere even without the alcohol in St. Cloud. Just my opinion;)

The Ralph probably is the top facility in all of college hockey. It has an amazing training facility for the athletes. It draws more fans than any other college hockey arena nationwide. I does draw recruits. On the other hand it greatly lacks the atmosphere you will find at a number of other smaller college hockey arenas nationwide. It has more of a professional feel to it which I'm not fond of myself. Und has great fans. They travel well and it would be amazing to be in St. Cloud this weekend to be a part of it. The Ralph and und's stature/tradition does give our school an advantage over others. Und has a very high paid coaching staff as well. Add all this up though and und still hasn't been able to win the most important games since the Ralph was built. Yet other teams with much less invested into their programs have.
