bubs needs to call blake, gaber, dylan, and perron and a dman into his office five minutes before the game cuss em out and take each one of their meticulously taped $300 dollar sticks and break em over his knee one by one and then yell at em "get the !@#$ out of my office and go kick their mf'n asses".....

A nuanced approach.   This is a university, after all.

Sorry, I've also seen important back checks, interrupting a shot on a good chance by a trailer.

I think he's taken his defensive role seriously after some evidence early this year that he wasn't (and I'm not sure that evidence was very compelling).    He's MVP material now, not to be readily replaced.  Jason understands how difficult it all is, and I'm sure he's proud.

I think I became more of a believer when he scored the OT winning goal against ??, did not celebrate, and promptly skated off the ice.   He clearly has high standards for both himself and the team.   And he's a sophomore.

How often does the puck leave his stick when he has possession(not often), with saying that how many times has he turned it over and it's gone back the other way(numerous)and how often do you see him busting his rear back checking(when he does it will be  first).  He has scored 18 goals, he has a nice shot and that is it.

He's the straw that stirs the offensive drink on that team.

I used to look foward to the post season now I just wait to be disappointed.

When was it that you did not think you would be disappointed?

  5. This year the regionals are as tough as FFs often are.   It should be a great tourney—more talent and good teams than there’s been in a while.

Id just as soon play the strongest team in my bracket first, with the exception of BC—let another team try to upset them first and maybe avoid having to get past them.   They are just playing so well right now.

  6. UND probably does not want to get in a horse race with BU, BC, UMinn, or even Michigan, though we would stack up pretty well.  Omaha and CC, though?  Thing is, slower, less skilled teams will do everything to avoid it until they have no choice.

Look, I am aware that I have narry a clue about such matters compared to many here.   But that's half the fun.

Please explain what you mean by 'vertical part of their game seems light'?

    Related to team speed?

Good question, actually.   It certainly relates to team speed, but I think of it as utilizing team speed.   Dylan James is very fast, but he uses it to push defenses vertically.  Johannes does as well.  Occasional stretch passes push vertically even when they don’t connect by pushing defenders back from the neutral zone.  CC and Omaha both had success neutralizing our speed and skill advantage in the neutral zone.

    There; how’s that for full-of-shyt?

Today, physicality gets you in the penalty box.

It does, and I like that this team plays smart that way.   They could use more of what Kunz brings, though.  They don't have to be big.   Z Parise makes a living scoring garbage goals by being smart and tenacious.   A little skill too.  ;)

@burd Bobby is playing with the Flyers, however, he's been in Tort's doghouse, playing about 10 minutes a game on the fourth line. He had a short stint with Lehigh Valley where he ended up being the player of the week. I got to see him play in Winnipeg back in January when the Flyers played the Jets.

Very cool experience for you, Goon.   Even 10 minutes a game in the NHL is still a hockey player's dream.  And it will likely change.  Let us know if you think a bunch of us from ss.com should pay Torts a visit.

He also said Rizzo is doubtful for regionals.

Speaking of which, has Goon mentioned where (or if) Bobby is playing hockey now?

You and @scpa0305 have basically written this team off as "not that good". I am not there yet. Let's see what happens this weekend. If they come out like they did in Omaha, then I'll probably lean more towards you and @scpa0305.

FWIW, the 2016 team looked horrible at the Frozen Faceoff and we all know what happened after that.

I guess the part that leaves me in doubt about this team is that, for all their offensive skills and snipers, the vertical part of their game seems light, as does their physicality around the other team’s net.  I don’t have evidence to back that up.  And can Ludwig put together 4 straight stellar outings.   But hey:  no team is perfect.  Not even UMD

Sorry to hear your kid is sick. Hate it when the little ones aren't feeling good.

One thing I noticed about having young kids who sometimes got sick.  After they were in school a couple of years, Mrs burd and I never got sick.  Immunized.

For those traveling to the cities this weekend, be aware Sunday looks like an ugly day to be driving back as of now!

Alvarez didn't want UW playing (and losing) to some of the newer (and smaller) schools that joined the WCHA later on.  So he and Jim Delaney put the whole B1G hockey conference into motion...and just like that, 50 years of conference rivalries were gone.

Alvarez brought Wisconsin football from the dead to prominence, so when he became AD, they gave him the keys to the family car and a gas card.  He was great for the football program but never gave a shyt about hockey.

I view it as more than the BC guys are surrounded by more offensive talent, so they're all putting up piles of points.
No slight intended to OMac or Gaber or Berg, etc, as I feel like one of the greatest strengths of this UND team is their forward depth...whereas BC is more top heavy with their forward talent.

My thought as well.   BC is widely viewed as the best team in the country, rightly or wrongly, and there is more competition for scoring leader on that team.   If you are the best scorer on the best team, that is more of a positive than a negative in the selection process, it seems to me.

One thing I like most about Blake is the way he has improved upon his shortcomings in the course of the year.   He is a real team player and has really improved his situational awareness and overall defensive game.

Plus:   Hobey Blaker?   You gotta go with that.

He’s not winning the Hobey. He’d have to go bananas. Jack Devine will probably take it.

Yeah, not likely, but it's fun knocking it around, especially after all that shade thrown his way earlier in the year for his turnovers and overall lack of defense (which was a legit concern, but I think he's shown an awareness of what he needed to improve upon).    Just like Gaber learned not to try to do too much in the O zone.
