I was curious about a couple of things, including the post that you quoted, as well as another that asked whether anyone has achieved less with more than UND.

If you look at the first round draft picks who played college hockey, all time, the numbers break down like this:

    Michigan - 33

    Minnesota - 26

    BC - 25

    Bu - 23

    UND - 20

    Wis - 18

    DU - 4

Yeah, that's right.  DU has four.

It's even funnier when you see how many some of these teams have had since they last won a national championship:  Michigan (27), Minnesota (19), BU (14), Wis (12), BC (11), UND (2), DU (0).  Now, one of these teams might very well win this year, with some first round picks on their team.  But it's pretty hard to say that UND has done the least with the most.

It is this kind of analysis that we too often don't require of ourselves in order to come to rational conclusions, and Hovey would almost certainly say it is only a small part of what could be or should be considered.  Most of us just reduce it all to the simplest possible metric (e.g. banner count) and stop at that.  Sic also takes an analytical approach.   There are a way too many knowledgeable hockey people here for there not to be more discussion about why UND isn't winning the big games, not simply that they aren't.   It isn't about protecting Berry.   He is paid well knows what he signed up for.  If there is reason to conclude he can't win the big games and identifiable reasons why, and someone is available who can, he has to be prepared to be replaced.  I personally think it's too soon to reach that conclusion.   But I'm not one of those on this board with a deep understanding of hockey, college hockey in particular.   We expect the team to be better, but we have some pretty good talent on the fan roster too, and we ought to do better.

If you wanted to ask someone how to be a better nfl quarterback, would you ask Dan Marino or Trent Dilfer?  Or maybe Jeff Hostetler.

Seriously though, many pro teams have a sports psychologist. If we are trying to be a pro team with all our amenities it would make sense to have a sports psychologist. Maybe even share them across the other non-hockey sports :silly:

I'm sure the members of this board could refer a long list of mental health providers.

We folded like a cheap suit after 2 periods.  Not sure what lesson Berry needs to learn but I hope he learns it fast.  With a Frozen Four berth on the line I would have thought we would come out with fire - especially after a two period lead.  This happens too much to Berry's teams for it to be chance or bad bounces.  Winners do better under pressure.

Wasn't UND's record 20-0 when leading after two periods this year?   Seems like their protect-a-lead strategy has been perfect.  I'm confused (again).

I don’t really get all the bitterness. This could be a fantastic Frozen Four. A ton of talent.

Yeah, I wish UND was there, but as a college hockey fan this beats the crap out of an RIT, QU, Cornell, WMU Frozen Four.

This has already been a good tournament to watch, and it should be an excellent FF.  Just so much talent.

I’ve decided to enter the portal. Although, I am unaware of possible age eligibility issues. I want to thank my friends, family and teammates. Praise Buddha.

Are you sure you and your Buddha-like figure can even fit through the portal anymore?

Let’s hope for the resurgence of the dynamic UND team we know and support.

If they win.  But if they lose, they're a bunch of lazy, can't-play-a-full-60, shoulda-played-elsewhere-or-here-for-a-different-coach, unSioux slugs.

Freaking Omaha. They should have won that game. Oh well, they went on a hell of a run. It was bound to happen though. They were due for a stumble.

Gotta hand it to Omaha.   They proved they were legit

I picked an ultimate Axis of Evil Frozen Four:  Denver, Minnesota, Boston College, Michigan.

As did I.   Figured I'm always wrong on such things so I'd kill four birds with one stone.   Hard to find four birds more worth killing.

Nope. No, don't try and spin this. This is my entire point. All this belly aching out here, but no solutions.

We're talking about pixie dust, magic spells, etc.... motivation. Our boys play at UND. They understand our history. They understand our standards. They absolutely want to win. Sometimes hockey happens and the other team plays better. It really is that simple.

There's a major section of The Ledge occupied exclusively by straw man construction workers who are also skilled at making false premises.

In 2017 we lost to BU in the Fargo Regional to a very questionable offsides call. This call resulted in a Rule change.

In 2021 we lost a 5 overtime game to UMD in the Fargo Regional. UMD did not have to play the first game because Michigan tested positive for Covid. This situation also resulted in a Rule change if it ever happens again.

We have had some tough luck in our regionals, usually something that has never happened before.... happens.

Until UND did it to Michigan in 2024, no team had ever won an NCAA regional game by more than two touchdowns AND been drug tested in the locker room immediately after the game.

Hunter Johannes was found to be on medications for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and enlarged prostate.   Everyone else was clean.
