  1. One of the thing that impressed me about Duluth was how they kept playing their game despite how incredibly frustrating it must have been to lose so many low scoring games. That kind of thing forges character, and when you mix in talent, you have a team that can be dangerous when things start to go their way. Like Denver now. Playing the game well usually builds confidence, but when it doesn't lead to wins, not so much. Winning always builds confidence. Duluth deserves to start winning, IMO. And when more teams in our conference start playing up to their potential, it's a better hockey world to live in IMO. More dangerous, maybe, but better. But for our guys to go into Duluth and Omaha and sweep? Hats off to them. BTW, did any of you notice how happy Thompson was after he got his goal? He practically raced over to the glove tap at the bench. His misplays have made him tentative this year, and that's a hard thing for a defenseman to overcome. He almost got burned last night but made a great stick play to recover. Maybe he will get some mojo back too.
  2. Guentzel is a player. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
  3. And we started to see some of the CBS magic start to happen tonight.
  4. It's nice to have SCSU lose this weekend no matter who they are playing, but Duluth really does deserve to get some results. They certainly pulled off a very difficult task in the Cloud. Impressive.
  5. What? Hawks have passed well tonight.
  6. Hawks could lose this game, but they are also very close to breaking one open. A lot of near misses and they are starting to maintain possession like they did earlier in the year. fingers crossed
  7. Me too. His faults are obvious, but he contributes a lot too. Like in most lines of work, if you can be counted on to work hard all the time, that goes a long way.
  8. I noticed that too, but I'm alright with the way they've been calling these games. These teams are fun to watch when you let them play.
  9. I'm not a superstitious guy, but I fell asleep today reading AARP magazine and had a dream where DBtM (Dean Blais the Myth) came riding into the rink on a big white horse wearing that green blazer and shooting thunderbolts out of his arse. The minute they saw him, Berry and Jackson dropped their clipboards and ran screaming into the mens' room. Shaw just looked over at him like he didn't know who he was then proceeded to coach the boys to a 8-0 shutout. When the game was over, Shaw went over the UNO box, and he had to bend way over to shake DBtM's hand. My AARP dreams are never wrong--going with the sweep.
  10. Yeah, you usually get that from a Dean Team.
  11. It's amazing we could go in to face Dean's 12th ranked team in their own barn after they've been swept, without Stecher, take a 5, and win. This D! And how many soft goals has Cam let in this year? We got far more softies from Zane, the guy who we thought was the standard in recent years. Amazing. A couple of comments about UNO. I know it's hard to evaluate play when you're not in the rink because you don't see play away from the puck or get a true appreciation for defensive play, but boy, can Guentzel play. He can maintain possession, snipe, and dish the puck. Has a battery like Parise's. I also like the way fellow Nodak, Morelli, plays--good speed, never gives up, solid on the forecheck. CBS missed some opportunities last night, but UNO missed some wide open nets too. Very entertaining, up-tempo hockey game. Winning Friday night on the road is so nice for fans--assured split, which is the usual result, and a chance for the road sweep. That's one thing that always strikes me about the way we react to outcomes. The boys played very well last night, but had UNO capitalized on a few of their chances, that could have just as easily been a loss. Then, with the same play but a different result, we would have been talking about the negatives from last night. Just the way we are, I guess. Thank Parise we have a team that doesn't put us in that position very often.
  12. Yeah, those tiger heads were in a league by themselves
  13. UNO's spinning O is just about as bad as CC's floating tiger heads.
  14. Maybe UMD is finally getting a little puck luck. Good timing if so.
  15. We've not burying chances that were going in earlier in the year, but I'm OK if we're building up some credit.
  16. Luke takes bad penalties, and I'm always quick to crawl on guys for taking dumb penalties, but he gives everything he has out there and has been strong on faceoffs when we badly needed some improvement there. Hard to get too down on him.
  17. We are so fortunate to see talent like this (I know--he's not here yet) play in our rink, even for those of us who have to watch most of the games on TV. We did not win a banner with the DOT bunch, but it was a special privilege to be able watch them in action on a weekly basis. And add to that the other high end college talent we get to see from other schools. Great day to be a hockey fan and an even better one to be a S . . . .Hawks fan.
  18. That is not at all blasphemous. It is completely appropriate.

    UND @ UNO

Pretty amazing that our last opponent, UMD, and our next opponent, UNO, have both been swept 4 times by conference opponents so far this year. 4 times. If that happened in GF, lots of fans would be demanding we fire ___________ and try to get Sandy or Deano back. OK, OK. Just having fun . . . Hopefully we can make that 5 for Dean.

    But don't check from behind.
  21. A little of both, I guess, but I think he himself stated later (after being "born again") that he had anger issues. Ben and Brett were not angry guys. Brett had fun with it.
  22. Any of you guys ancient enough to remember Bill Butters? Now there was a gopher to hate.
