  1. He got pulled down on a break-away. There's a surprise (for some unsuspecting defenseman). Way to go Spie!
  2. What did everyone expect from last year's freshmen? Sheesh. Bochenski - goes without saying Fournier - a chance on talent gone bad Massen - had a good year this year. Nice step up from last year. Potential to get even better! Canady - Sure we'd like to see some offensive but was he billed as a scorer? I don't think so. Big physical checking line type forward. Does need to keep himself out of the box. He was injured almost all year, so you can't really evaluate him. Connelly - Hurt much of 1st year. Has good speed and plays hard. Could use some more offensive production from him. Was close this year but couldn't quite put up the points Faul - couldn't crack the starting lineup McMahon - Very important face-off guy, good physical checking line type center who has ability to score Schneider - enough said Jones - What more do you want from him? Fuher - What more do you want from him? Sheesh. That class is the backbone of the program. They not only provide some of the scoring punch but also many of the role players.
  3. This is not terribly surprising. Didn't we hear a rumor many many months ago he could have signed last season but didn't? If my memory is correct then it would be no surprise that he would take almost ANY chance right now for the $$ considering what he has been through the last 2 years. It's good for him and I wish him well. Consider what 3 years of a healthy David Hale would have been like?
  4. I was going to post this and forgot. Seems to me Commie is forgetting his "game". In the Calgary game with the Wild the other night, there were all kinds of fighting penalties. I checked the box score and Commie had a lowly 2 min minor for slashing. Wimp.
  5. Fabian is from Roseau. I am also concerned about team speed next year. O well. Can't do much about it now. Yes, we will improve, but I still think we're playing second fiddle to at least MN. And other teams like Duluth and Mankato appear to be major factors as well. And that isn't to slight anyone else who might step up like CC, Denver, etc. It should be a very tough conference again next year. Let's hope the Sioux will have a bit more success throughout this year. They/we deserve it.
  6. My brothers and I played quite a bit of this. Our game came with the Los Angelas Kings and the Atlanta Flames??? Early 70's era. In Scouts my older brother built a wooden puck drop deal. Looked like a big scoreboard hanging over center ice. The puck bounced around inside a bit so you never quite knew how quickly it would drop to the ice. Centermen never got kicked out of the circle.
  7. On the contrary I really like listening to Woog. I hate that he keeps mispronouncing Lundbohm, but other than that I learn more about hockey listening to him than any other color guy. Also, Woog, though a homer, is not afraid to say the Gophers got away with a penalty, or that the other team is outplaying the gophs, or whatever. He's not always smooth and polished, but I like his enthusiasm, story, insight, and style.

    Frozen 4

I agree. I saw that swing and was very surprised because David is NOT a cheap player, but that was quite a swing. From watching the Ferris team all night, I wonder if the Ferris player had made some sort of comment as he put that puck in the net that may have incited the swing.
  9. And I thought you just had low self-esteem.
  10. I agree. No sense worrying about this. There is one thing no one has mentioned. Brandt took a slapshot to the solar plexis after the whistle in the second period. He went down hard and was in serious pain. He finished the period but I was a bit surprised about that. Could he have tightened up between periods? I thought the team came out buzzing in the 3rd period, and really took it to Ferris. Admittedly, Ferris was trying to sit on their lead but the Sioux really took it to them. Could the goalie switch be component in that effort? I mean, isn't that what we hear coaches say when the swap goalies, it's to spur on the team?
  11. I believe Genoway is counted on to score, not skate fast. I am still holding out hope. I think it was Dixon Ward who scored 8 goals his freshman year and 35 the next year.... And we know about Goren's story, and Whitey Lundbohm.... I'll judge Colby next year. Connelly can fly and works very hard on the ice. Would like to see some more offensive production but from what I have seen of him on the ice I think he can do it. Just needs more ice time. I agree on the team speed thing. That has me concerned. But then I thought we needed a top offensive defenseman and I no longer believe that is a big hole....
  12. Someone else will know better but I think Cornell might have been one of those teams that changed their nickname because of some opposition to the first one. You can do the research though....
  13. I'm not really qualified to scout defensive quality but I will say for the whole 3rd and seemingly near the end of the second the D were really pinching and taking chances.
  14. Right on, Sprig. Ferris is dirty dirty dirty. In fact, I hate them so much I am cheering for the Gophers to beat them tonite. How's that? Woog was right on if he was critical of Ferris. Sioux needed to make the PP count and they didn't.
  15. I'm with jk. I thought we played well enough to win the game but didn't. Ferris made the most of their chances, the Sioux didn't. I thought the Sioux had pretty good offensive pressure, and did a good job on the forecheck, and working the offensive zone. But couldn't put it in the net. Got close though. Brandt played well, I thought. Wasn't too close so couldn't scrutinize the goals from my seat...... Ferris is a pretty good team. Obviously they played well enough to win tonite. I thought the Sioux did too. But Ferris got the goals. That's what sucks. I think the Sioux can beat Ferris. Like someone said, McMahon and Prpich had great games. I think Prpich was the best Sioux player today. We need a bit more speed, and a bit more skill. I'm glad I was there for Spiewak and Notermann's last game. Sad, but I'm glad I was there at the end to tip my cap to them. Thanks to Chris, Jason and Kevin. Great memories.....
  16. It was pretty funny. They asked Bomber if he had any predictions about the Fighting Sioux winning the national championship this year. He said he usually doesn't make predictions but will predict the Sioux will advance beyond THIS weekend! Dubay started to cut in to protest that prediction and Bomber laughed and said "Yeah, we should have no trouble with Mercyhurst tomorrow!" That was even better!
  17. At this rate Siouxrock will take over the #1 posting spot on this board within hours.
  18. I believe his first name is Tyler but his last name is not Johnson. I can't believe I broke my rule to ignore this guy.
  19. I can copy it for you but my equipment ain't exactly professional quality. Copies of my vcr tapes are ok at best. Well, maybe "good" according to the scale on your website. Maybe. We can talk if you want...If I had a choice it would be to get the 1987 Championship game or else the WI game with Commodore's fight on it. Which one that is I don't know. If you prefer, I would send you my original and you could dub it yourself, then you would have more control on the copy. My master is pretty decent. It's copying that doesn't work as well...
  20. Last year the Sioux wore the black ice jerseys on the friday night playoff game at Mariucci and got their asses handed to them in a most embarrassing way. On Sat they wore the Green and dang near beat the gophs in Andy's swan song as a Sioux goalie (glad I got that one on tape). GO GREEN GO SIOUX!
  21. I thought for a while about trying to make practice today but work schedule just didn't work well with it. I used to watch Gino's practices after class back in the day and that was always a nice time.
