  1. I hope somebody picks him up. It seemed that he scored a little when he got called up. But he hasn't made a quick progression to the big roster from school. Hopefully someone will give him a shot.

    Power play

Look, it's not like I think Palmo is the secret weapon but just isn't getting ice time, but from what I saw when he played with Parise and Bochenski he was contributing on that line. I've seen Palmo play on the low lines before and he wasn't a factor.

1 forward you did not mention is Palmiscno. Palmo had trouble finding ice time last season and may again this season. However, in Mankato Blais had him on a line with Parise and Bochenski and to me he looked like he was contributing nicely. He made some great passes to those guys. Palmo doesn't have a lot of size and speed but could he be effective in the more open ice of the PP? If you are going to put Murray on the 1st line I am going to put Stafford on the 2nd line. It is presumptious, I know, to be doing this without seeing them play, but Stafford is supposed to have some good creative ability and good hands. McMahon is one of my favorite players on the team because of his work ethic, but I don't see him as being that offensively skilled. (Which means I probably just set him up for a career year in points!) I'm just concerned that with Massen, Prpich and McMahon on the forward lines there isn't one guy who is really there to set anyone else up. I guess I don't know if Stafford is the guy, but that is my early prediction.

    Power play

I only get to see a small handful of games in person but let me say this. If the transition game improves as much this year as it did last year then we will have one hell of a transition game. 2001-02 was just brutal to watch. 2002-03 was at least decent most of the time. Hopefully that improvement can continue. Or maybe it was decent in comparison to the year before! I agree on the PP but since it has been about the same for the past many years, I'll put my vote to improving our PK.
  6. I seem to remember a number in the range of $300,000 when Lundbohm signed. Could easily be wrong. I agree jk, I always wondered if Lundbohm didn't take the money and run because he looked at the following year and there was no Jeff Panzer playing at his side. I wish his pro career had gone better, though. Never seemed to develop the scoring that we saw the last couple years at UND.
  7. Hopefully Jeff can get a shot with the Blues at some point. When I think of Jeff I think of Wes Walz.
  8. More info on the Rosehill speculation: http://didsburyreview.awna.com/sports/sports1.html
  9. Ok, Rip Van Winkle , Chad Dahlen is a defenseman from Devils Lake who transferred from LSSU? this past year. He played there 2 years I think, then decided to transfer. He practiced with the team until about January, when it was reported that he was concentrating on his studies and not practicing anymore with the team. Ryan Hale may not be an offensive force but I am not going to eagerly anticipate the departure of anyone who is a captain. Their contributions can come in many ways. Major Junior leagues are off limits to D1 recruiting as their players are ineligible to play D1. There are some exceptions, for instance Goren I believe and Genoway come to mind. Because Genoway played one game or one period or something like that of a MJ exhibition game they have to sit out one year of D1 hockey and then 1 game for every MJ game they played in. Something close to that anyway. So the guys who mostly get recruited have only played junior hockey, and not MJ.
  10. I won't go so far as to say whether it was a good or bad trade but that is why I said this:
  11. My guess is Brandt will have to be beat out. Brandt finished the year in important games playing very solid hockey. I would think that plus experience gives him an edge over the others. However, he'd still have to look good in practice to keep the job. I don't know if we'll see the rotation goalies so much. I think one will have to show they are definitely better than Jake.
  12. Probably a good deal for Murph though my heart wanted to see if he had a chance here with the Wild. Seems like maybe he didn't quite fit the mold the Wild is looking for in a defenseman. Hopefully he'll have a chance to make the show in Nashville. Good luck, Murph!
  13. Hey, come on! I almost had to use my feet.
  14. It does seem like a high number of defensemen, but Rosehill is still just a question mark. Let's assume he isn't really coming, and should Dahlen not play with the team (another assumption only), then the defense numbers are at about 8, which is pretty normal. If one of those two assumptions is wrong, that makes 9. However, as jk pointed out, it is reasonable to believe we could lose at least one after next year. Hopefully not, but you never know. Personally, it sure would be nice not to lose any additional defensemen early. With Commodore, Roche, and Hale all leaving before we saw their top potential realized, it would be nice to see these guys perform at their peak in college. We've talked about this coming year potentially being a good year for the team, but the year after could be something too, with a upperclass dominated defensive corp, and potentially solid goaltending by that time.
  15. Last winter it was reported that Dahlen quit practicing with the team to concentrate on his studies. I suppose there is a possibility he will continue to focus on his studies and not play hockey.
  16. A little digging found this site: http://bolts.tbo.com/lightning/MGAVZZJ99HD.html edit: (I see I have been beaten to the punch) Jay Rosehill Pos.: D Vitals: 6-3, 195 Selected: Seventh round, 227th overall from Olds of Alberta Junior league Born: Olds, Alberta, on July 16, 1985 Etc.: Rated 139 among North American skaters by Central Scouting. ... Named team's most improved defenseman for 2002-03. ... Expected to attend North Dakota. Goertzen's comment: ``He's an Alberta beef boy who doesn't mind laying on the lumber. We like how he plays physically. He has time to develop. Makes people pay the price in front of the net.'' Matt Smaby, D Height/weight: 6-4, 200 Selected: 41st overall Etc: Scheduled to attend University of North Dakota. ... Invited to U.S. Junior National Camp. ... Worked out with Tampa Bay RW and fellow Minnesota native Ben Clymer during the summer. ... Was a standout baseball player before focusing on hockey. ... 17. Kind of hard to make that a typo, jk. Very interesting to see if there is anything to this. Just curious, how big IS that magnifying glass with which you scour the internet?

  20. Seems like the last thing you would want to do is put your kid in a position to fail. Bad enough for him but also embarrassing for yourself. So my opinion might be that Andy would be less inclined to rush Brady along.
  21. I like his dedication to his team, wanting to stay and win a championship with them at home. That kind of loyalty could pay off for the Sioux down the road. I also like that he's coming to work out with the team this summer. Nice to see we may have some more offensive skill on the blueline in the future.
  22. The article I read yesterday said he grew 2 inches and 25 pounds. That seems more realistic.
  23. I don't think you can say Blais had a rocky start. He took over a team that had few tools, and in 3 years? won a national championship. If he had anything rocky it was the next 2 years in the post season when he had magnificent regular season teams that got bumped pre-Frozen Four. But he rebounded with a less strong team and won the national championship. I think Blais' most rocky period has been these past 2 years. Let's hope that's all the longer it is.
  24. I don't care of Dahl puts out a jv team. Sioux seem to have struggled consistently in St. Cloud.
