Hard to tell too much from radio but sounded like a pretty decent job generating offense and really seemed like the top 2 lines pretty much dominated when they where on the ice. Goaltending is still a bit of concern to me hopefully Cam can bounce back tomorrow with a solid performance.
On the postgame Berry said he had to talk to a couple of guys and challenge them a little bit after the 1st period. Said he told Cam "no more" and Cam said "I got it". And he did!
And then the offense pulled a "Number 6" on 'em.

I agree siouxfan512. I'll bet rather than commit, and perhaps make a change to MJ, he's going to wait and then make a decision...one that he won't change later. Gotta respect that if true.

The NCAA has sent a clear shot across the bow. If UND remains "North Dakota" and other schools complain that the school or fans are essentially maintaining use of the Fighting Sioux nickname, they could reinstate sanctions. To me, Kelley had no other choice but to remove it from the ballot. Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

UND Fighting Nodaks.
That's not bad, but too bad that's not what we get to vote on.
I could really dig that. Seems so obvious.

I know everyone has been waiting for me to finally speak my peace on this topic, but life seems to get in the way of taking the time to do so. Ok, to honor the origination of the thread, in least preferred order:
6. WRITE IN BALLOT: Bombers - it wasn't my submission, but I loved this nickname proposal and really wish it would have gotten the attention it deserved. That said........
5. Sundogs - Just can't get behind this one (no pun intended by the way. Wrote that without thinking.....
). I think a cool logo could actually come out of this, but I just don't feel much affinity for the name...not much to identify with that's all the fun or exciting. Plus, I can't stand the idea that it would morph into some sort of canine reference. Just can't accept this one.
4. Fighting Hawks - I could actually support this one if some version of "hawks" wasn't already used by every other sports team not named "Huskies". The "hawks" identification is just too overused to consider this.
3. North Stars - I could live with this. I DON'T support this however, as it is a nickname of the state of MN. So just seems wrong to use. But other than that, I think it's a good nickname and a decent option.
1b. Nodaks - I actually like this option. Quite a bit. I grew up close to North Dakota, and went to school at UND. I never have perceived "Nodak" as a negative term. Marney Gellner has it on her Twitter profile. It's good enough for electric co-ops and insurance companies but it's a negative term? I don't get it. It's unique, it's a state identifier....it might be a little weird, but what's wrong with that? I'd actually be ok with this one. I don't know what the logo would be but just using the state of ND as a logo could be very workable.
1a. Roughriders - This is my preferred option. I like the image, I like the connotation. I think of the options it gives UND the best chance of adopting a nickname that provides the same sort of characteristics for identification that Fighting Sioux offered. It's not quite as unique as I'd prefer, but it's a pretty darn good choice. I don't agree with Brad Schlossman that Teddy's antipathy toward Native Americans should make it a disqualifier. I do understand someone having that point of view, I just don't share that it has to be that important. All of those opinions need to be considered, but also taken within the context of the times in which they were made. It doesn't make those sentiments right, but we are also a much more evolved society now than we were before. If we turned our back on honoring men of our history with less than desirable traits, opinions or behavior we'd have to disassociate ourselves with most of our founding fathers and probably half of the men who grace our currency. Where I differ is that I don't believe selecting Roughriders is to honor Teddy's opinions about Native Americans, but is adopting one of our state nicknames (The Roughrider State). Selecting Roughriders would be about honoring the state's heritage.
By the time the vote comes out I might even switch my 1a and 1b, but for now that's where I land. You can all stop holding your breath now.

You know, I only watched the game out of one eye, and I have no idea if Manitoba is any good at all (always need to take into account the quality of the opponent), but I was really pleased with what I did see tonight. If this team can play like this against D1 opponents, they may not look THIS good, but they'll give themselves a chance to win a lot of games.

I didn't know they were broken.
They just hang there.

New color man is bad.
You do know he's never done this before, right? Give him a month or 2 to get comfortable and figure out his role. I bet he'll be just fine.

Too bad Hadju is currently mowing Hak's still unsold mansion to read this and maybe look into this...one of the best longer posts in a while...
Isn't he the Sports Information Director? is he in charge of tailgating and game day atmosphere?

I guess that's why I'm in sales and not marketing! And again - all I said is that I didn't hate it any more and that there are possibilities from a branding/logo/mascot angle.
Hey, you're entitled to like it (or even not hate it). I just hate the idea!
-
I haven't followed the saga, and initially I hated the idea of Sundogs... laughed at it. Now I'm sort of coming around to it. A lot could be done with a husky-like dog mascot. Green might not work as a color, but the imagery of snow and ice and blue and grey colors with a fierce dog could be pretty cool. I'm sure I'll get ripped for it, but I think it's better than Fighting Hawks, which feels forced and short on creativity.
No No NO! Please. The only thing more pervasive in sports mascots than hawks are dogs of some kind. Please, no. I'd actually prefer a logo built on the weather phenomenon (don't get me wrong, Sundogs is my least favorite of the 5 options, but I do think a cool logo could be built from it).

8 years and she still doesn't fetch?

Not schedule NDSU anymore because they play cheap, dirty, and intent to injure..
I think a 3 year cooling period is in order

I would too, I have nothing but time.
It's almost Ducktober ??

I agree I also went over the line.
Mj23 is nothing but a troll. In his first post in this thread he accused people that feel the hit on Arnell was illegal as "whining, crying, and f'n pathetic."
You need to ban tuckfards like mj23 instead of scolding the rest of us for defending our teams and our fellow UND fans.
everybody deserves a warning and bincitysioux already addressed that with him.

lol now look who's crying? The game is over, and I'm done with your mom. So why don't you just go home?
this sort of comment is also beyond what is acceptable in my opinion. i know you're responding after someone else said something offensive involving you, but it's better to toe the line and allow the moderators to manage it vs escalating things inappropriately

Quite funny how a sioux fan starts the crap but of course it's the other guys fault.
nothing said by the other pster was remotely as offensive as what you said. Best if you just drop it and keep it clean going foward.

Dagies??
nice!

Geez, if you think Siouxman uses a source for the stuff he slings........

mods, ban this FU troll.
We would, if it wasn't for his......connections

So, I don't remember much of the game. Maybe I shouldn't relate this story since the title thread is "favorite memories", but it was a cold, snowy day in the mid 1980's. We hit the liquor store for some grog at half-time because we'd finished the schnapps. We were hitting it pretty hard.. Well, anyway, we were sitting reasonably close to the NDSU band, and some guy was wearing a "Sioux Suck" baseball hat in the middle of the band. Feeling brave, I pushed my way through the band, grabbed his hat and ran. There was a chorus of yelling behind me so I figured the whole NDSU band was after me. I was running as fast as I could (could never run very fast) and didn't think I could spare the time to look behind me, so I kept running straight out of the stadium until I was about a block away. In hindsight, I doubt anyone took more than a couple of steps after me (if that). So I can imagine what I looked like. But what the heck, that was a long time ago.

You Can't Make This Up
in UND Nickname
Posted
I'm on record in several places in this forum advocating that UND not knuckle under if there's a particular nickname they want that they fear someone might complain about. BUT as has been covered by others already, the NCAA doesn't need any sort of existing rule or bylaw that covers this situation. They just need to decide they want to do it. And actually communicating with UND to say they would, in this instance, is enough for me to say UND should stay out of the gray area of not choosing a new nickname, because it's almost certainly going to lead to additional trouble for UND, and it's doubtful, to me, that UND can win this one in the court of public opinion.
Choose another nickname that meets the guidelines, then I'm more willing to fight that battle for public opinion, because no one can ever say that UND didn't fully comply with the NCAA. Not choosing another nickname....a certain segment is going to view that as evasion, not compliance.
