Bariball was a fun one to watch in the state tourney and I was harboring small hopes that UND could be in on the sweepstakes as he was fun to watch. Oh well, UND doesn't get too many TC kids, so it was a faint hope at best.

A co-worker of mine is one-half Yankton Sioux. She spent part of her youth on a reservation in SD. Her mother is full Sioux. She is someone I respect a lot so when I found out her ancestry I inquired to her feelings on the nickname issue. She absolutely has no issues with Native American nicknames, even including "Redskins". She indicated her mother couldn't care less either. My personal experiences with Native Americans supporting the nickname are far outweighing my personal experience with Native Americans who oppose (2-0 if you are counting).

While there's plenty of talent on this team there's also an overabundance of youth. Lumps are in store, IMO. We're going to just have to roll with the punches.

And if your guess on Matt Greene is correct, the Sioux will likely be playing 4 freshmen defensemen and a sophomore who has limited experience in most games. That's not a foundation for high expectations IMO. Assuming Greene is gone: Marvin - Sr Smaby - Jr Foyt - Jr Radke - So Chorney - Fr Jones - Fr Lee - Fr Finley - Fr Alexander - Fr

Repeatedly we read and hear about the character of the individuals in the Fighting Sioux hockey program from the coaches down through the players. It makes it easy to root for 'em.

Wow. You gotta give him credit for gutting it out at the end of the year if his schoulder was so bad. I hope he'll be at 100% this coming year as the team will need his leadership. Sounds like both he and Matt Greene played through some significant injuries to see the team through to the championship game. In the championship game I thought Prpich's effort looked a little anemic when he went in alone on Mannino. I guess it appears he had a good excuse and I owe him an apology!

No Jeff Panzer?

I felt as good about the 2004-05 team at the end of the season as if they had won a championship. I will remember them the way I remember the '87 team, '97 team, etc. It guess it depends on how you label success, but in terms of more memorable, I go with the '04-'05 team. It's a shame they finish it off against Denver.

Ok, I get it.

Back when I was in college we'd have been looking forward to a "welcome" like this to a hockey game. Or to Upson, Gamble, the Union, the Spud, etc. I could understand why forecheck might complain, but Dirty/Diggler of all people??

The WHL is making a play for him as well. This from early May of 2005. Of course, if Shaheen has the above recent info on Butcher, could be he's put off the WHL. Maybe yes, maybe no. Butcher

I read the AA recruit thread and their list of incoming players on USCHO a while back. It appears the Sioux are still overrecruiting the top talent....

There still could be some truth to Herb's story. Gino was an assistant at the time, I think. If so, maybe Herb knew Rube would screw it up but Gino was smart enough to be worrisome.

Maybe he'll come on this year. Last year wasn't much for him at Cedar Rapids in the USHL He was an '87 birthday, but 3 other 87's finished higher in scoring. Gotta like a guy whose nickname is "Wheels" West Valley Wolfpack Hocky

In doing some research on the internet in the past, Chay played quite a bit of D before Shattuck. So maybe he tried forward for a while and is going back. Here he was drafted as a D man in the 2001 WHL Bantam draft WHL Bantam Draft

As mentioned before, Rory is a competitor and he plays a physical game. You like to have him on your team.

Speaking of morons, there's also this place called Siouxsports.com.......

There's been plenty of talk about Dowzak and Finley lately, but there might be stuff to discuss about other players too, and this might be better than starting a thread for each name. Chay Genoway is going to play for the Vernon Vipers this next season. It looks like he's going to play defense for them. I believe he played defense before going to Shattuck as well. Vernon Viper's Announce Signing of Chay Genoway

Now that's something to protest.

WWPKD, please let me apologize for your perception of what I wrote. Maybe I should have written this instead: "I kind of hope Zach Jones wears another number besides 3. Then I won't look on the ice and keep thinking I see Matt Jones".

I'm not worried that Robbie would come back too early. I can't believe any doctor would clear him to play any sooner than is realistic, if at all, considering the nature of his injury. This isn't like if he goes out too soon he might reinjure his hamstring. If this is done wrong, Robbie's probably in a wheelchair for life. Who is going to clear him too quickly?? If Robbie sees ice this year, I for one am not going to be second guessing the decision. A whole lot of people smarter and closer to the situation than I will be part of that decision..........

I agree. On the other hand, if those of us down here in the States read a Canadian writer make a comment like that we are going to think there's something to it. While I agree that doesn't prove anything, it does show that some of us down here aren't the only ones with that perception. In the end that perception appears more widespread than just a few uninformed college hockey fans who might have a chip on their shoulder. Canuck may very well be right, I'll give him that. But it's obvious we didn't just make this stuff up down here.
