As for audio, there's a link to audio broadcast right on the front page of Sioux Sports.com. FYI Eades was on between periods to talk about the freshmen. Apparently I missed several in an early period break as I only started listening end of 2nd period. But for those who didn't listen in: Lee - sky's the limit..made transition to college already....does things in practice they can't believe....can't play like a freshmen if the team is to have a good year. Martens - good stickhandler. Gino said of Uncle Irwin "he could stickhandle in a phone booth" and Ryan has a bit of that....he's been a bit of a pleasant surprise at "camp" and is knocking at the door to get in the lineup....will get time this year. Miller - shoulder surgery in May screwed up his summer strength and conditioning, but closer to playing than we'd expect...he's along on the trip and if anyone slips up tonite he'll be in the lineup tomorrow....slick player, and he'll do well on the power play. Oshie - great story....in high school one day a week they'd play a different sport...he was always better than the kids at everything....he was better at basketball than the varsity basketball players....tremendous stickhandler like Hrkac who could stickhandle through a few guys....skating could use some work but he's ok....watch how he works to get the puck back if he loses it. Walski - he's proven that he belongs....coming from NAHL you wonder if he'll be overpowered by the Zajacs, but he's not. Toews - humble, but very well known in Canada...eager to learn. Watkins - real speedster, effortless stride...can play both wings...like his competitiveness though he's a low-key guy off the ice...plays both ways...like Kozek may take some time to adjust to college game....able to do things at very high speed. That's my synopsis and I'm sticking to it. This was not verbatim.

Iceburg on GPL says that MN, WI, UMD and UND are chasing Cade Fairchild, the defenseman from Duluth. There's got to be only the slimmest chance that UND could get this kid. Apparently he's a big MN fan and has stated that's where he wants to go. BUT, since this is a "prospective" recruits thread, it's worth a mention.

Maybe we should find faculty at both institutions to write a letter in support of playing UI and UND.

Instead of a chant of "Let's Go Sioux!" we could go with "Go-Jib-Way!". I know, corny as heck. In fact, if they see that it'll probably kibosh the whole idea. I'm going home now....

I watched the Wild game the other night and it was the first NHL regular season game I was interested in actually watching. To me it seemed like there was more flow.

Nothing bothers me about having guys left off of pre-season lists. All the better to fly under the radar. The Sioux have several guys who could raise eyebrows this year. If they do that, it won't be because they got named to a list. How much sweeter to see names on the end of season list?

Some notes from the Red Hawks roster for those like me who are unfamiliar. These are the more notable players: Redhawks Roster OFFENSE: #11 Matt Christie Jr. Forward - led Miami with a career-high 36 points on 15 goals and a career-best 21 assists ... second on the team with eight power-play goals

Works for me. Didn't they kick the Sioux out of much of MN anyway?
-
Proving why the best idea will be to do without a nickname for an extended period of time, and let the best option surface over time. I'd puke going to any of those choices.

Alberta was missing their captain yesterday too. Thanks to Iceburg on GPL for posting the link: Alberta-MN game

Some of the faithful on GPL would give this game a bit more credence than you. Of course, some over there made fun of the SS crowd for the same kind of comments.

Thanks for the heads-up!

A clear example of "unclear on the concept".

These kids are sophomores in high school and they made a big mistake and are paying for it in a big way. They have time to put together a solid academic record before deciding on college or MJ or whatever. I for one hope they learned the proper lesson, will apply themselves appropriately, attain the proper high school credentials and rebuild their academic integrity to put themselves in the position to have options on how to pursue their hockey career post high school. If they do that, and they want to come to UND and UND wants them, I'll welcome them happily.

Great comments, Yttrium. Thanks for posting.

Yow, that used to work a few years ago but once MN started winning championships suddenly $25.00 tickets turned into $70. I must not have been doing something right if you can get them on the street reasonably. We went from the street to the rush seating line.

Thanks a ton, PCM! It's awesome to be back in Coaches Show season.

Thanks to siouxguyinstpaul I got on the "horn" and managed 2 SRO for Friday's game. Couldn't get 2 for Saturday's however. I'll be honest, I never even tried because I figured there was NO chance anything would be available after about 5 minutes when they went on sale last saturday. So I'm pumped to be going. I've seen some very good games, and some very bad games at Mariucci. This one is on Friday the 13th. I wonder which team will rue that date?

If they are in support of the NCAA rulings, what are they appealing? I don't get it. Poor Choctaw College.
-
We tried, but then we found out we were getting too exuberant about our performance against a Canadian college team on Sunday.
-
Good luck to our captains! I was thinking Smaby might have enough to do just keeping the young D together without captaining the team, but if he's the guy they want, that's fine with me. He played great down the stretch last spring, and if he can continue that he'll have the leadership on ice part down.

I talked to a former player who told me it will be very sad if the name should go. Everywhere he played, he ran into people from all over and they all knew of the FIGHTING SIOUX. Even the Canadian kids who came through the MJ ranks were very familiar. It IS the identity of the program.
