  1. I agree. I was aware of the 1992 championship. Minot and Bismarck were both great that year. Two years ago when they had Willer, Dittus, and Selk and some others, they should have won it for sure but they did choke hard. I can't figure out why Samson's teams always did that. The 1993 team with Philion and Danny Hanson could have taken state as could the 1998 team with Fylling and John GRubb and Brian Haaland. They were very good in 1994 and 1995 too. It's ironic that Samson had the lone championship for Minot and then his teams choked all of his other years. He's a super guy and I was sad to see him not win another.
  2. This is interesting. He was an assistant when I played along with Willert and Dave Stanley. What was his deal as a head coach anyway? I had heard that a lot of the players did not really care for him and that he was not too good of a motivator. I always liked him personally. Blais was still there when I was in 6th 7th and 8th grade and he did a lot with us Bantams then. Olson was pretty intense too. How was it that he had so many good teams and did not win state? The east was good, of course, but with players like Mike Hanson in 94 or 95 when they beat Warroad in Warroad, Grubb, Fylling and so many others they should have been able to win state at least once. I thought that I heard that Ben Keup was around town. His dad is a dentist in Minot and he played for the ND Hounds in Wilcox and Lake Superior State. One would think that he'd do a pretty good job if he were interested. Chris Cartier is another one from Minot who played for ND Hounds (I'm not sure where he played his college hockey) that I understand is around Minot. Is he involved in the program at all?
  3. I am from Minot and live in MN. It pains me to say it but Minot sucks. That program has really suffered since Bruce Olson left. I don't know what they're going to do out there. They should lure Bliss Littler or someone like him back to coach the team. Hopefully, some of the old hockey buffs around town like the Morrelli family, Philion, Danny Hanson, Mike Hanson will get involved and help that program get back to where it once was. Pretty sad now.
  4. Why is it so hard to understand that a nickname, or any name for that matter, does not "trigger" anything? The hostile and abusive conduct of certain people -- GK for example -- is triggered by one's own motivations and inability to convey one's positions in a positive and productive manner. Saying the nickname triggers anything is like saying "the Devil made me do it." This is ludicrous and it is an all too common denominator among the name change crowd. Contrary to the logic that the name change crowd promotes, disagreements over a particular issue do not constitute "hostile and abusive" conduct/behavior. The shrill and unfounded cries of "racism," "pain and suffering" and "bigotry" made so irresponsibly by the pc'ers and their phobia concerning positions contravening their own are what trigger and perpetuate the very racism they claim to condemn/remedy. How pharisaic of them to claim that the nickname itself causes anything. In fact, it is they who are using the nickname as a vessel to perpetrate overt and tangible racist acts by claiming that everyone holding a different viewpoint than the one they hold are "racists." I firmly believe that the majority of people are very tired of the antics and twisted logic of the "we define racism" crowd. The lawsuit is emblematic of that general feeling.
  5. "Most of the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota tribal nations have passed resolutions saying they don't want UND to use "Fighting Sioux," not because they want to upset the university system but because around the name comes fighting, acrimony, hostility and even hate as is happening this week." Who are the ones instigating the acrimony, hostility, etc.? You guessed it. It's the PC whiners. If people who are reasonable actually resist and fight back legally against PC oppression, they cause hostility? The same old hackneyed logic: If you disagree with me, you "hate" me. If you want to use the FS nickname, you disrespect people and cause "pain and suffering." I wish we could get Christ resurrect Rod Serling. What these people forget, other than their sanity, is that UND has legal trademark rights to the nickname
  6. Minot does suck and that hurts because I am from there.
  7. What would likely happen if schools did stop scheduling UND? What would UND's response be legally and otherwise? I am not certain that it is legal for schools to do this anyway but I am curious. I can just see some PC bastions doing this. Perhaps that is the next legal avenue that will need to be addressed should UND prevail in Court. I think legislation against this crap is positively necessary for just this reason.
  8. The "Fighting Cavalry" would be a good replacement name. Along with the swords out flailing at the games, "Gary Owen" could be the team's rouser.
  9. These people are loons for sure. It would make for an interesting psychological study to determine how they acquire that mindset.
  10. The Antique, Whitey's (Original -- no place like that), The Down Under, Griggs. I used to like the El Rocco and the Bronze Boot too. Top off a night at one or all of these places with a Zep Grinder. Pretty Good.
  11. If a nickname "makes you feel" all those things, one would think you have much deeper problems and I do not mean that in a bad way. No one, no nickname can "make" you feel anything. How/why do you give a nickname and other people that kind of power over you? The only ones who see "stereotyping" manifested through a simple nickname are the PC'ers. There obviously are self-esteem issues that need to be addressed and the nickname will not change those issues. The PC'ers apparent argument seems to me to be analogous to the argument that there will be less smoking or that smoking will start to be a thing of the past if there are no "Joe Camel" shirts. Ridiculous. We are all responsible for our own feelings and we need to assume ownership of them. Blaming a nickname and supporters of a nickname for deep-seated issues is deflecting and deferring that ownership.
  12. God how stupid. What in the hell is a "RiverHawk"? A hawk that preys upon mice by a river? All of this non-offensive name garbage is really, really inane. What a waste. Isn't Syracuse the "Orangemen"? Isn't that some reference to indians? This whole thing is surreal in its idiocy.
  13. I do not think a settlement would be in the best interests of UND in the long run. If any settlement were reached it would be crucial to have it be approved and signed off by the Court so that res judicata would prohibit the NC00 from bringing it up again in the future. Any settlement would just otherwise postpone the matter to some future point in time when the NC00, believing that the alumni have lost their collective spine and assuming that UND does not have a AG with guts, would bring it up again. The machinery has been set in motion and there is momentum and publicity that is positive for UND. Those are assets that should not be lightly disregarded, especially where, as in this matter, there are very cogent and persuasive arguments, unless there is one heck of a settlement. Settling with the NC00 would be akin to making a deal with a snake oil salesman.
  14. Agree. That's exactly what's happening.
  15. I was disappointed with Ryan Bakken's story in that he was saying that UND should just cave to the NC00 mandates or risk being perennially discriminated against by the NC00. Is he a name change advocate? I guess I did not think so. One would think that the more the NC00 does this, the more evidence accumulates against it for possible legal action in the future. One of my old partners used to have a saying, "just another arrow in the quiver," which is very appropriate in more ways than one for this situation. Personally, I do think that the nickname had something to do with the fall in seeding. Such passive-agressiveness on the part of the NC00 can only hurt its cause in the long run but the PC mindset is either numbed or indifferent to this. In any case, there is no reason to simply bend over for the NC00 as Bakken seems to suggest. I don't see how fighting an injustice constitutes "defiant" behavior. Is it defiant to demand that the NC00 follow its own charter and bylaws? Is it defiant to demand that the NC00 treat all its members equally under the "policy"?
  16. It's very sad that so many have caved; it's disgusting, in fact. Decades of tradition compromised and countless alumni jaded because several schools have not had the stomach to fight. Perhaps the presidents of such universities were just patsies. Does anyone think there is a chance of the NC00 being broken up like "Ma Bell" in 1984? The NCAA is obviously a monopoly like "Ma Bell" was. It seems to me that the NC00 could be broken up very nicely into regional associations. This would probably stimulate competition as television rights, etc would have to negotiate with multiple parties as opposed to the one stop shop. Many regional economies would likely be infused with a lot of money and resources. Plus, the NC00 bully and its economic abuse is stopped. Sounds like a good deal to me. Heck, we may even be able to get a football playoff arrangement out of it.
  17. The creative muse is strong with you. The lobotomy is almost complete.
  18. In case you are brain dead, the nickname has a lot to do with politics and how the ND clowns do nothing. I have a pair of jumper cables that I can attach to your ears.
  19. If Conrad had any real political clout, GF would not have lost their tankers. If any of the democratic buffoons would have had any clout, in the mid-90's nonetheless, GF would not have lost its missles either. Look at what the first year senator from SD did. He saved Ellsworth and vowed to vote against Bush on everything if it closed. While I don't like John Thune, Mr. DME Railroad whore that he is, he had guts to do that. The three stooges from ND never went out on the line for ND in that fashion, even during the Clinton years when their influence would have supposedly been at its peak. They've managed to buffalo a lot of the ND faithful. Compare Thune's first year in saving Ellsworth to Conrad's first year when Minot lost its fighter wing to Ted Kennedy's Massachusetts. Had Mark Andrews stayed in power, and he was stupid to piss off the Fargo doctors, Minot would still have a fighter wing. The truth of why GF lost its missles and tankers: All three dems have a history of anti-military. SAC has a long memory and the protesters of GF, the three stooges (see above), Phil Jackson, and Lucy Clute (sp?) (wife of Conrad and former concubine of Dorgan) among them. Dorgan is one of the top Dems, I believe, and Conrad has had 20 years in the Senate, GF lost its tankers. Yeah, they have a lot of influence. While I am no Republican, one can not fall for such garbage. All three have been wards of the state for at least, especially in Conrad's case, for 20 to 30 years. I don't think anyone of them has had a real job except for when they were in their teens and early 20's. I am a pre-Bush REpublican but even I can respect Wellstone because he stood up for what he believed in and actually did things. What a contrast from the 3 stooges from my home state. It seems now we in MN have 2 clowns that are as equally lackluster as the three stooges. The whole political establishment needs to be thoroughly cleansed. Enter Tim Walz, new Dem Rep from my area. When asked what he'd do about the NCAA over-extending its authority, when asked what he'd do about lobbying reform, one got the same flurry of nothingness one gets from well-entrenched politicians (i.e. Gil Gutknecht whom he replaced). Here we go again. Endeth Rant.
  20. Thank you Siouxcia. I'll go back and see if I can dig up GK's posts. About the posts concerning people being so distraught over the name that they can't focus on classes/studies, give me a break! What they are disturbed by is that they are not able to get their way and impose their minority view on others..just yet. They then probably obsess about not being deferred to and just become enraged. There is something in that disturbed PC mentality that creates a right or entitlement regarding the supposed enlightenment of their views. They seem to think that everyone should just bow down and that if they scream loudly enough and impugn the legitimacy of the opposing side's arguments with idiotic tactics a la GK, people will just back down and they will get their way. Has anyone heard of the term "low-core aggressive"? That's exactly what a lot of these people are. As far as reservation opposition, I think that it has been established that a minority of NA's are actually bothered by the name. The "hostile learning atmosphere" preventing us from learning argument is really trite and banal. Like I've said before, it's no wonder that such types (see several college professors at UND) stay hunkered down in the university setting because such garbage is not tolerated elsewhere.
  21. I wanted to see GK's racist comments and did a search. All I could find were posts between Sioux-cia and GK and others and GK about the hacking. Is there a way to view his previous inflammatory ramblings or have they been deleted off the site. Perhaps there is another way of searching that goes back further? I was not posting/viewing on this board when they were issued but I'd be interested in looking at them. Help?
  22. It's probably the same old usual suspects that the good people of NOrth Dakota are paying to teach at the university. As to the non-"educators" who may be in the coven, without a job one can become either a bum or a protester. If I had the pleasure of choosing company, I'd choose the bum.
  23. Bravo UND! The Reply Brief was a very interesting read. The NCAA arguments are pretty weak, in my opinion. The NCAA brief relies heavily on obscure "policy" considerations and a lot of PR assertions that have no factual support and highly suspect legal support. One can sure tell that UND thought through the motions/arguments very thoroughly prior to initiating suit.
  24. Maybe he'll wind up at SCCC and will witness my counter protesting when he and the other fools "demonstrate" before the games. It will probably be too cold for them in early March though. The "nickname bad, PC good" crowd, of which this guy is a member, do not believe in free speech, freedom of expression or education. When it comes to any of these, absolutism is the coin of the realm with such people. It really is a sheer tragedy that he will no longer vouchsafe the rest of the UND community with his physical presence or his money, the latter likely being grant money or financial aid. I guess we'll have to consult with Uncle Sam about that aspect of the matter.
