  1. I agree that Walski should have gotten some playing time. I think he should transfer someplace where he will get to play more rather than languishing on the bench for 4 years. Back in the late 90's, Philion should have done the same thing. I thought that he was as skilled and as little as David Hoogsteen but maybe did not mesh as well with the lines that Blais had. I guess he had thought of transferring to SCSU or LSSU or some other teams in the CCHA but did not do so in the end even though SCSU, at least, wanted him.
  2. I agree that the Sioux did melt down and i do not wish to blame the refs entirely. Mankato got tagged with its share of penalties too so you make good points. As a Sioux fan living in Mankato and since I am familiar with some of the Mankato players, I usually cheer for one team each night. I can't say that I'm totally saddened that the Sioux got all four points but I am concerned about the Sioux goaltending this year. Parise had huge games all season long and then seemed to have weaker performances in the final four. Maybe that's just my observation. The way Lammy got lit up against Maine, I'm not too confident that he's the guy. After seeing Greico, although it was only his first 2 games, I'm not too sure about him either. What's the consensus? Is it just because the Sioux do not have lumberjacks as defensemen anymore, except Finley, or is it simply shaking goaltending early on in the year? I'd like to see Lammy do well as he's from ND as am I but I'm not too sure about him without Parise there to compete against. I'm probably being too hard on the goalies (GReico in particular) but when you have 4 goals scored on 38 shots (Friday night) and 5 goals scored on only 28 shots (Saturday night) against a young, inexperienced and average Mankato team, that's cause for concern, in my book. Brad Miller played outstandingly. That kid deserves to be in the lineup regardless of what Toews status is. When the ref was injured, some of the drunk student fans actually cheered. Pretty pathetic. The ref got drilled in the eyebrow with a shot that looked like it deflected off of a stick in front of the net.
  3. If Greico plays like he did in Mankato, the Sioux will lose both games. I was surprised to see just how badly both goalies played last weekend. I think the refs were too quick to blow the whistle with penalties last weekend. The refs should just let people play. Guys tripping over sticks do not constitute tripping penalties. I really hope the Sioux can beat SCCC both games.
  4. I wonder if any of the usual suspects will be outside the courthouse "protesting." I wish I did not have a job and had nothing better to do so I could go counter protest. It sure shocks them when they actually witness vocal opposition to their collective insanity. For those so-called activists who are college professors who choose to protest, it will be a fine display of ND taxpayer dollars at work. Shouldn't they be representing all of their students, including those who may not agree with their shrill antics? Shouldn't they be "educating" in their selected fields? If they choose to "educate" beyond the realm of their so-called expertise, shouldn't they be presenting all viewpoints? I guess DYB's logic, flawed as it is, does not apply to the PC asylum. In its arrogance, the NC00 had to respond and it is somewhat naive to think that they would not. Using the PC asylum's logic, wouldn't NCAA member dues and fees be better spent on education-related items?. The NCAA has money to spend, including UND's money that it's paid, and their lawyers are only too happy to take $400.00/hour. I would expect a motion to remove to federal court before any injunction hearing. I do not know how a ND grad-judge is not assigned to the case, if it stays in state court. In MN at least, one can remove a judge once. Thereafter, a removal can only be for cause and I do not think that there would be cause justifying further removals, unless any new judge simply does not wish to hear the case.
  5. Minot, Williston, Bottineu, Dickinson. Minot is a totally beautiful place as is Williston. It stays light until 10:45 or 11:00 in late June and early July. The east to too flat. Bismarck is pretty but not nearly as pretty or with as many trees as Minot. Williston is my second favorite town in ND. Fargo has a lot to do but the "we're just like a part of Minnesota" or "we're so metro" attitude is really nauseating. Seriously, it's just Fargo.
  6. That's what happens when corporate sponsors buy a vast portion of the tix at an arena and only a few show up. The arena turns into a big morgue especially one as huge as the Ralph. One sees it at the Mariucci too to some extent. There is some noise but it is nothing like it was at the old arena. I think the NCAA warning "no racist, sexist, homophobic, blah, blah, blah" kind of has a chilling effect. Of course, no one wants to hear the F-bomb dropped by fans and no one wants to hear nasty name calling. If the NCAA were serious, they should remove anyone who uses the Sioux nickname in a derogatory manner, like "sioux suck" or "sue is a whore" etc. Hard to believe that the same fools chanting "racist mascot" were saying those things. It just shows how truly out of touch and ignorant those people are. We don't have a mascot anyway last time I checked. The bleacher creature was the closest thing I guess.
  7. Get ready to see a bunch of UW knobs "protesting" the Sloux nickname/logo. The Peoples Republic of Univeristy of Wisconsin is a dangerous place.
  8. A most stunning example of wanton cowardice, in my opinion. Get sodomized, labeled (as a hostile and abusive institution) and victimized (financially, reputationally), simply say it hurts and allow them to proceed. I'm glad I did not get my higer education at William and Mary.
  9. The "Storming Brownshirts" sounds good as does the "White Lucifers." The "Aryans" would have been good a couple of years ago when Panzer, Goehring, Goren, Schneider were on the team.
  10. One should counter protest the student clowns when one goes to a hockey game. I've done it at Gopher games and it's great fun. Walk right in the middle of them and yell "Go Fighting Sioux!!!!! Fighting Sioux Forever!!!!!". P%%#ssing off the PC maniacs gives me a lot of gratification. Be prepared for the usual "don't be ignorant" and "you're a racist" remarks. Although I should not be surprised, I wonder why they can not come up with anything more creative that these remarks.
  11. As one poster pointed out, this topic does need to be addressed and has needed to be addressed for 20 years. I've always thought it ridiculous that ND has had its two major universities only 72 miles apart. SD has the same thing. I think this shows a lot of the political power the east had back in the early days. If I'm not mistaken, Bismarck had an opportunity to get UND but the legislators out there at the time thought that the State Correctional Facility would be a better fit for some reason. This issue was to be addressed in 1984 or so when the west wanted to transform Minot into DNU (Dakota Northwestern University) but the people in the east did not like that possibility. There would have been 3 major u's in ND and a few others would have been transformed into 2 year colleges or closed, from what I can remember. Having a university every 10 feet may have made sense 80 years ago when travel was a lot more difficult but having so many now makes no sense at all. ND has close to the same number of higher education facilities as MN but has 1/8 of the population. That population is decreasing every year as many of the farms dry up and as many of the smaller communities dry up with them. Close Bismarck (I do not see the need when Minot is 110 miles away and U of Mary is there), close Mayville, close VCSU, Close Wahpeton, close Devils Lake. Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Bottineau make geographical sense given the populations they serve. I think ND can count on at least 20 more years of this because no politician is going to risk losing votes (most pols don't have spines anyway) so this situation will have to reach the breaking point 20 years from now when no one will be able to ignore it and when something will absolutely have to be done. There has been a mass exodus out of ND to MN, WI, CO, etc for many years and this will only continue given that ND really has done near to nothing to attract new industries (with the exception of Fargo and a few anticipated ethanol plants). When ND has 50 taxpayers and 35 of those taxpayers are divided up between 8 to 10 schools, we'll see some action.
  12. We played more than 24 games in the early and mid-eighties. I know because I played in them. Some of the games were so-called scrimmages with teams like Notre Dame and Carnduff, Manitoba and Estevan and even the Billings, MT and Aberdeen, SD city teams. The teams from Canada usually played Minot first and then went to Bismarck to blay BHS and B Cent. at the old Schaumburg (sp?) Arena Notre Dame usually beat Minot 6-2 or 9-2 but Minot and Bismarck did well against the rest. As far as Notre Dame is concerned, it sure helped Minot's players to play against guys the likes of Mitch Messier, Brad Obergavich and Brent Bobyck, Warren Babe as well as others. Many of us who went to the hockey camp in Regina run by Denny Messier (the former head coach of Notre Dame) during the summer played against such players then too.
  13. I agree with UND22. When I played HS hockey in the early and mid 80's, we played a lot more than 20 to 24 games and it did not impact any other aspects of school at all. I don't see how scheduling more games would overlap with anything other than indoor track. H.S. baseball does not really start practice until mid-march, if I remember correctly. The state limits games because of costs of travel, meals, ice time, etc rather than because of any concern over non-existent academic stress. The paucity of games is asinine.
  14. The west teams and coaches should review this board periodically. It would provide some considerable motivation, in my opinion.
  15. Last year, they lost by one goal to GFC, RR, EGF and Grafton by one goal. The year before, Minot beat all of those teams. The point is that Minot has beaten the best teams from the east on a consistent basis though several years but chokes at state. This defies the line given by one poster that all of the West spots at state are "wasted." During the 80's and early 90's, Minot and Bismarck and, to a lesser extent, even Bottineau fared well at state and against the east. The talent that Minot has had since 93 has been probably higher than the talent in previous years. The east has not leapt so fast in front of the west (Minot/Bismarck) in talent in succeeding years to justify the west's continuing embarrassing performances at state. Top to bottom, the east is for sure better than the west and, perhaps, some of the cause for the west's abysmal performances can be attributed to the top teams in the west playing more games against nascent programs such as Williston, Dickinson and Mandan. But the top teams in the west should have done better at state regardless and it has been a negative mindset, a lack of focus and a continuing self-fulfilling prophecy that has contributed largely to this curious phenomenon. Minot/Bismarck should schedule games with the NOtre Dame Hounds, Carnduff, Bienfait, Brandon, Moose Jaw teams like they used to do. Williston could do the same thing as it is just due south of Regina/Wilcox. The 20 game limit is a joke.
  16. The top teams in West, primarily Minot, have laid eggs at the state tournament the last several years. To whine about the West getting a guaranteed four spots and, therefore, the 8 best teams being prohibited from competing at state is sophomoric at best. Even though Minot has choked in state, they routinely have beaten the "best" teams from the east during the regular season. A quick solution to the perceived problem is to divide the East/West into the North/South but then the east whiners would have their panties even more in a bundle because they would have to actually travel away from I-29. Gee, that would be too bad. The NDHSA should have some common sense and expand the number of games that the schools can play. That way, the West could schedule more games with Saskatchewan and Manitoba teams and the east could play more Minnesota teams. Personally, I am certain that the Canadian teams are better competition than the Section 8 teams.
  17. I take it that the West will be weak again? Is there any reason to believe that any team out there will get anywhere at state? Any talented players out there returning? Why was Jamestown moved back to the West region and DL moved to the East? I questioned the decision to move Jamestown to the East initially as I thought it did not make sense. DL makes more sense geographically but it has always been in the west and I'm sorry to see it go. It used to be that Jamestown had a pretty strong program and that DL did not really have a strong program. At that time, Jamestown was moved to the east. Now that Jamestown is down and DL is fairly good, DL is moved to the east. Is there some kind of issue here where the east is gerrymandering to get the better team? Maybe I've watched too many Oliver Stone movies?
  18. Does anyone know where one can buy a jersey with the generic "North Dakota" letters sewn on? I've been looking for one of these for awhile and I'd appreciate any leads that you may have. Thanks.
  19. I was not aware of some of the players mentioned here that played D-1 and are from ND. Where do Ian Powers, Migura, McLean, Chad Johnson (I know STeve Johnson played for the Sioux), Mark Berge, Dennis Johnson, Dan Wuden. Could someone dispel my ignorance and inform me as to where these guys player or are now playing. Thanks. Also, didn't Danny Irmen transfer from Minot to Red River? I thought he played first in Minot and then went to Fargo/Grand Forks?
  20. The NC00 PC crowd in their ivory towers are heading for a Bastille moment, I think. They are so ignorant of the real world that they'll probably just say "let them eat cake" and go on with their self-destructive antics. Legislation hemming them in is way overdue.
  21. Are there any North Dakota jersies for sale with the "NOrth Dakota" on them? I'd be interested in buying one.
  22. Is this person a PC enforcer? What is the speculation as to the view on the Fighting Sioux nickname controversy. I hope he's not a mealy-mouthed patsy like a lot of other so-called "educators"
  23. Pomeroy is a spineless weasel. The whole "seniority" bit is getting old. I do not see him as having done anything significant since he's been in office and accepting donations from questionable groups. What good does it do to be in Congress for 30 years if you do nothing except accept a pay check and get a very good health insurance plan? Quentin Burdick was a fine one for this. He had been in the Senate for years and still Minot lost its fighter wing after Mark Andrews was beaten. What did Burdick do? Nothing. The same thing goes for "Mr. Flibbery" Pomeroy.
