  1. Revisionist history - Reason was you already had a DI sport and didn't see the need. We can all argue about how hockey controlled the athletic dept but IMO it was true. Nothing wrong with that. The success that the xSU's had in their transition was the reason for the move by UND. If they would have failed do you really think you wouild have made the move?

According to BV history, sure, maybe. But, back on planet Earth, I'll trust my sources over BV. Mine were/are a little closer to the actual books. ;).

The success that the xSU's had in their transition was the reason for the move by UND. If they would have failed do you really think you wouild have made the move?

It wasn't the reason, as you put it, but it sure made the leap much easier because there was a precedent and a road map that suggested it "could" be done.

  2. NCC 2.0

    {yawn}

Wow this is certainly getting interesting. As a Bison Fan I dont know what to think. My gut says UMKC knows something. It defies all logic. The wac is basically a glorified great west without the good programs. And the Denver move is even more peculiar.

Missouri Valley? Yeah obviously even without a few teams that would be an insane upgrade.

So many options. This could open up USD to go to the Big Sky. You could see all the Dakota schools go to the Big Sky and form a mega conference. You could see all 3 teams go to the Missouri Valley or maybe 2? Heck how about UND to join us in all sports, including football?

Now if you guys would have moved up to the FCS at the same time, we may not even be having this discussion and we would have the 5 core NCC teams that stood for decades in the same conference!

    Gabe,

We couldn't afford a move to DI at the time NDSU moved up. That is why Kuppy et. al. held their ground. I don't think we were quite ready to do it when we did but our back was finally against the proverbial wall with the complete and utter collapse of the NCC.

  3. To me his tweet to kotelnicki to call him was a bit of a red flag....

Was he the one who interrupted Kotelnicki with a text/call right in the middle of his interview with Matt Schill on UND Sports TV?

  4. Early favorite to be nominated for 2013 post of the year....

Sorry to derail things for a bit. But it gets to a point where it's just plain obnoxious. Now back to talk about what seems to be a pretty darn good recruiting class -- on paper.

  5. Mat Cox, Olympia, Wash., article between his junior and senior years:

This publication put Cox at #61 for Top 140 juniors in the State of Washington in 2011:

This publication has Cox as a top college recruit in Washington:

"First team athlete from Olympia. A really nice big frame and he moves well too. His film is really nice and he is going to be a guy we follow as the season gets going!"

  6. Why aren't we recruiting more in our conference footprint? I would think we want BSC kids so that they could play a few games in their old back yards to impress the folks back home.

You mean like these guys, who all hail from the Big Sky footprint. They were all recruited by UND or UND had interest in them at some point: (this is only what has been confirmed):

  7. Wow... I know that recruiting hopes always spring eternal, but this O'Brien kid looks like the real deal. I hope that tenacity and that Dan Hendrickson and Digger Anderson-esque style of play translates at the college level. He explodes through the line and doesn't give up on plays. I have a hunch this could be a real diamond in the rough in this recruiting class.

  8. She is happy with her choice and loves the coach. She is enjoying her last 3 weeks of high school hockey and recently has gone bonkers on the scoresheet.

Concordia? Very good school academically. Congrats!

  9. How about another Wisconsin kid... Logan Neitzke. Hasn't commited anywhere yet but is holding a PWO to UW.

He just had a strange tweet, saying "committed to Minnesota State Mankato." Assumed it was a joke.

  10. Seems like the last several years NDSU has gotten everyone that comes out of Dickinson. Maybe its just me though.

I know Dickinson quite intimately...and it's always been a very pro-NDSU town, much to my chagrin. Dickinson-Trinity had been an exception as that school piped in some pretty good UND guys in the 1980s when it was Class A. That may have turned now, too. There is a strong but small pro-UND base in Dickinson among the varsity hockey and park and rec hockey communities, but, that's about it. Getting UND guys out of Dickinson is like drawing blood from a turnip. It's not like Bismark, Minot and Devils Lake.
