Since Chris said it's true, I officially apologize to "Anonymous".
-
You know the funny part is that UND would have a bad reputation if what Donald says was true, yet top recruits don't seem to be shying away from the Sioux, but continue to avoid Anchorage like the plague.
-
Exactly! Apparently Fornier couldn't cut it at Anchorage either. Wonder if Donald will apologize if this rumor turns out to be false. Any fan from an opposing team can turn the slightest perceived problem into a sinister deed, without the inside knowledge of each situation. It's like a Sioux fan spouting off that they think Gwoz sent Paukovich out to hurt Bina and someone else to hurt Brady Murray. It's absurd, but who would be able to refute it but Gwoz and the player themselves, which makes it a he said, she said scenario. The same can be said of in-house problems with players. But of course Donald has all the facts. He must, because he is taking this circumstance as fact.
-
Why do I get the feeling that "anonymous" is lurking about both DU & UND's message boards and patting himself on the back for stirring the pot.
-
The fact that it is an anonymous post is a red flag for me. You would also think that someone "in the know" in the Sioux program would know something, unless they just aren't ready to share anything on this board yet because of the delicate nature of a recruit changing their mind on their verbal. I guess time will tell, but if it does turn out to be true, I don't like how this is becoming more common, because sooner or later it could come back to haunt the Sioux as well. Think of the position this would put Denver in, trying to find another recruit after many for 07 or 08 are already gone. I know as a Sioux fan how mad I would be if it happened to the Sioux, especially if they had missed out on another recruit because of a changed mind. I understand a recruit has to do what will ultimately make them happy, but that's why they should weigh their decision thoroughly to begin with. I seem to be ranting, even though it isn't from a reliable source as far as we know. Regardless, it isn't a path I like to see college hockey go down.
-
I see Hunter Bishop was taken in the USHL draft as well. Hopefully he'll latch on with another college team in the future, but one that won't allow him to haunt UND in the future.

As the paper says, it may be an issue if Winnipeg gets the World Juniors, they might not want to have it again so close. Also, it would be odd if they didn't allow GF to host because they were the last U.S. city to host. Seems to me if it is supported well, stick with a successful formula. That said, I don't think they will have nearly the number of ticket packages sold prior to the tournament. People will think they can get tickets out front very cheap like last time, but with not as many people buying the packages, they will be in for a rude surprise and have to pay the $30-$40 price at the ticket booth for a single game, which means the U.S. and Canada games will be the only games that have a decent attendance next time. That would be my guess anyway.
-
Why wouldn't Grand Forks have a good shot at the World Juniors? Didn't they set a U.S. attendance record? The U.S. hockey people said they liked how it was "THE" event in Grand Forks where it was overshadowed in bigger markets and not given the proper media attention. I don't think the clamor for Junior hockey has changed all that much in the major markets.

Who is your source?
-
I hardly think that Canada is starving for another star when Crosby is probably the best player going, or will be shortly.
-
He said someone is looking at Arnason, nothing more. Someone asked a question regarding GF players, he responded.
-
Not saying Arnason is a D1 talent or not, but he did play better against Deichert head to head. Didn't Deichert give up 8 goals against Red River, or did he get pulled before that? He also wasn't that impressive at the state tournament. You certainly can't argue with Arnason's numbers. True he played for a very good team, but then again so did Deichert. http://www.gfparks.org/ndaha/goalieleaders.html

I think the NCAA should let go of that policy regardless. It ultimately favors one league over another, because it is allowing every team in a league to get extra games for playing a team in their league. I know the philosphy is to grow the game of hockey, but at some point it basically becomes a bribe to play a team. Oh, that's right the NCAA lives by the bribe. Ask Florida State, they have them in their back pocket--literally.
-
I guess I didn't take your initial post literally, but just that UND had a pipeline to Shattuck which might cause more players to at least take a look at UND. Which makes sense, especially when you have administrators at Shattuck like Parise and Stafford that had kids go to UND. The word of mouth from those two alone would hold a lot of weight I suspect.

Get rid of the drain on WCHA budgets by getting rid of Anchorage and bring in a natural draw in Bemidji. What does Anchorage do for the WCHA other than cost extra travel money and according to most coaches, a trip that takes at least a week to recover. Somebody needs to make that tough decision. I know the feeling is that you need to keep programs going like that, but why not keep a program going that is close by. It's not like Anchorage brings the WCHA a lot of prestige.

It would be nice if Toews stays another year at UND to give Chicago one more top-end pick. Let's face it, with or without Toews they aren't going to be great, but if he stays away they might get another top 3 pick. If they add a nice player in this year's draft and another next year, they have the makings of a really nice squad that could contend for awhile, providing they draft wisely. I think Pittsburgh will be contenders every year now with their nice drafts of Crosby, Malkin and Staal. I guess what I am saying is Toews could really set his teams up nicely, both UND and Chicago by staying another year, giving UND a great chance at an NCAA title, and Chicago a strong base for the future. Do you think he would buy that logic? Neither do I! Bottom line is Toews should do what he feel is best for him and either way he will win.
-
Toews will most likely sign, but when/if he does, it would be nice if his brother David would verbally commit that day to help offset the disappointment.
-
... and Matt Moreland isn't playing college hockey. So maybe you're the one that doesn't know anything.
-
Maybe that is why Finley got a penalty for a clean check in the semi-final game. They are just priming the pump to ban him completely from college hockey for being too big!
-
I would be surprised if Genoway moved back to forward, because I think he can make a greater impact at defense. It will be interesting to see if both Marto and Lapoint come in next year. I don't believe Marto can go back to the USHL because of age limitations. Does anyone know exactly what the age limit is?
-
Regardless if Toews leaves, I still think you might see the DOT line with Trupp. He appears to have some get up and go that could match that of Oshie and Duncan. It would be nice to slip Toews in there again and let Trupp add scoring to the rest of the lineup. How great would that be?
-
There are different kinds of coaches. Dean Blais would break sticks and let his players know how he felt. Dave Hakstol has a much more calm demeanor. Both have been very successful. Roebuck is what he is, and that passion is what makes him and his teams successful. Is he perfect? No! But then again, neither are Blais or Hakstol, and I wouldn't trade any of them and their passion for UND for a coach who wouldn't bleed green.

Too bad about Ness. One has to wonder if his dad had any affinity to UND though, being that he didn't get to play when he was here and I believe quit the team. Sure aren't picking up the offspring of UND players lately, i.e. Marvin, Christian and now Ness. I am sure they were after Ness in a big way, but not sure the offers on the other two. Glad we have Lamoureaux and Duncan in house now though. What does this do for Landman?
-
How soon we forget. Seems like a few Sioux players had a disruptive influence on the Sioux season. Cut the kid some slack. Either that, or don't use a double standard when a gopher does something disruptive, and when a Sioux player does. Be consistent.

Now that Tech and Mankato proved me wrong by helping the Sioux out, I would like to see Denver and CC tie on Friday while the Sioux win. That would put the Sioux tied with Denver for 3rd and ahead of CC by 3 points. How would the tie break with Denver play out if that scenario took place?
