and then this year "they" will say  the opposite....7 doesn't guarantee us anything...if our wins are against a bunch of losers.

Again, if that’s what you want them to be and hoping for……

Youngstown, UNI and ACU would all be better wins than most 7-4 teams could bring to the table assuming our 3 wins to get there are the next 3 games.

Win the last one (which I believe we can) and it’s a no brainer.

7-4 puts UND in for sure despite what some would like to see happen.

  2. Get this one next week and UND gets Indiana St after what will be a physical game vs SDSU and USD at home.

Still really believe there is not a game this team can’t win, but no team we are a shoe in to beat either.

    What was official attendance today?

I believe it was just shy of 11,100.  Good crowd.  I’m calling small crowd of 8,000 for next weekend.  We just can’t get out of our way sometimes.

  4. I’m not sure Thompson, Mayville and Hillsboro having playoff games at the same time tomorrow helps us.  That will take away some fans unfortunately.   I’m going to predict 11,500 with a solid SDSU turnout in the first game being ranked #1.

But will they run power? SDSU went to what was working against NDSU.

Against UND, I fear an air show.

I feel going to the air is more risky than sticking on the ground.  It’s what NDSU tried last year and what kept it close.   When they needed to ice the game, they ran the ball.

With the play of the defense so far, I’m not sure we can stop either.

Looks like a high potential kind of guy

Spot on.  Not a ton of football experience but a really good athlete.  I’ve been waiting for someone in the area to offer him something.

So what’s it going to take to get it done this week?  Play our normal offense and play our best defense of the year? How does our offense compare to their defense?  How does their defense compare to our offense?

Yards in the ground will be tough to come by.   Get the ball to playmakers and let them make plays.  Tommy is going to have to make the plays he has made all year.

  8.  SDSU will run the ball all day next week and playaction back to one of the twins.  Hope the defense surprises me.  Offensively we will do a better job getting our WRs the ball, we will struggle running.  Place needs to be packed and loud on Saturday.

Since it is the bye week:  I have the important questions to ask the group.

How do you feel the season is going so far?

    What are some surprises?  Dissapointments?

What are the expectations and things to look out for in the 2nd half of the season?

Surprised at how good the very young OL has been.  Not perfect but very solid.

Disappointed for Sammy Fort.  Secondary would have looked better with him there.   It has been looking a little better each week.  By that I mean gets stops when they have needed to.

they keep hammering it, in hopes that some how, some way , they can move up to FBS, and get their tails kicked just about every game

I don’t think they get their tales kicked in just like I don’t think we would get our tails kicked in.  I think both teams win more than they lose.  Recent move up history would actually back that.  The biggest difference is the understanding that your season is just for one bowl game.  They aren’t getting any more fans or charging any more for tickets than they do now.

I hope while they are working on getting into Conference USA, the remaining Dakota schools and Montana schools are trying to figure out how we can make a move together than give them the finger when they ask to come back in.

Hardly worth commenting on when you take some/most of it out of context.  We've had quite of few 9 man OL over the years.   I chalk most of it up to jealousy.

Live Update from Fargo Radio this morning.  A real comedian was on talking about NDSU football.  Statements made-

    1. 9-man football is the foundation of the NDSU O-line.  Other than Mauch NDSU has one other freshman 9-man O-line that looks to be redshirting.  (prideful talking point, but 4 out of 5 Pinocchios, 1 current starter out of 18-20 lineman is not a foundation)

    2. More NFL scouts on Saturdays in Fargo than in Minneapolis.  2022 draft saw 4 Gophers and 2 Bison.  Each has around 15 former players active, including practice squads.  (to say more.........going to have to go with another 4 out of 5 pinocchios especially when factoring in the NFL scouts interested in players from opposing teams)

    3. The FCS National Championship game is in Fargo this year, NDSU vrs SDSU.  (just isn't true, 5 out of 5 pinocchios)

    4. FCS football increasingly watered down when teams like James Madison leave.  (0 out of 5 pinochios, actually been a trend for a long time, true statement)

These cute talking points 1-3 get told over and over in Fargo, good for a laugh.

agreed...cj gets hurt and we're done...give the kr duties to someone else....bc kostitch gonna kostitch

And if we don’t get some of the big returns Siegel is capable of we likely lose an additional game or two and the season is done.

Play your best players whether it’s return game or coverage.  We don’t have the luxury yet to just have a return guy.  Guys like Siegel also need to show they can do this to increase value at the next level.

I think YSU is a better team than a lot of people think. The Hawks will need to play a great game to win. Can’t wait for Saturday!

Youngstown will be full of good athletes, play physical football and be a tough place to play.

They probably should have beat us last year at our place.  It was as flat of a game as we have played.

The defensive stop and missed field goal turning into UND points actually was a huge momentum swing for UND.

I’d say they already had it getting 10 points in the final minutes of the first half to close the gap to a one point game.
