And you thought the transfer portal was bad at UND!!  Granted, this was due to a coach being fired, but still crazy. Nothing like a bare cupboard for the next coach!!  Gonna be tough to get applicants when you don’t have any players!

A new coach will fill a roster quickly with the portal.

One of the reasons for transfers in my opinion is that kids today - especially those with talent - don't really want to play on 6 and 25 teams that are 2 and 16 in the conference.  Even if they like the school and the coach they will look to maximize their success.

I’m not sure the full data set on transfers throughout college sports would agree with that.   I think it’s just become the new norm in college sports.  It’s going to work out for some and not for others and going to take time for players to understand that.

Alot of band wagon people on this forum that really want the best for UND.   I wonder how many are graduates of the school or local life time residents?    Bruns was recruited here because he had no other offers and bolted as soon as he had another.  Why was that?  If we have a great coach to play for?   Also Eaglestaff said in a interview that he was coming here because his uncle was a legend at UND and wanted to play for the same school.  Not much recruiting done there.  I also heard that the reason why we got Omot was alot to do with Eaglestaff, again no recruiting there.    If UND alumni and lifetime residents love losing and giving coaches 10 years to finally decide if they can make it or not thats fine.  But other new fans like myself want to see some sort of success before I am going to spend money on tickets.  I dont expect championships, I just expect we are competitive and have a chance to win.  We won 2 conference games this year!    I still wonder how many years do you think a coach should have when after 4 years we have steadily sunk in the league.  If we are at the bottom next year give a 5 year extension because we have a nice guy?   Honest question please answer for me how many years would you give???  10 ? 15 ?   I know at my job if I didnt perform I wouldnt be given 4 years.   I want Sather to succeed and  I want UND to be successful.  I just dont know how long you can give a program.  My honest opinion is if next year we dont see some sort of improvement or if other star players transfer we move on.

Has anyone said on here that he should get 10 or 15 years??

Tough spot to be in as a coach when you get blame for not getting recruits but get zero credit for the ones you do get.  You’ll be quick to blame him if either of those two transfer even though he didn’t get them here.

I believe UNDs (and schools of similar size) biggest challenge right now is learning the new world of player retention and roster building.  5 year players are a thing of the past.  No reason to redshirt players anymore.  Need to build/maintain relationships with players for when they transfer from other schools.  I think last year was a little new to everyone, I’m curious to see how he rounds out the roster this year.

I’ve been told by the head guy at midco pat or whatever his name was when he was suite level one game und hockey dwarfs all average

when usd play sdsu in football or ndsu vs sdsu in football those games come very close

I do think a lot of people in forks and surrounding area only have midco for the sports

if they lost und they would lose lots of subscribers

    but they called chaves bluff

Do you know the initial offer?  I actually think UND putting it to bid works in their favor for the reasons you mention above.  Obviously Midco knows how important it is to their viewership.  Easy way out would have been just renewing and taking a Midco offer.

Did you watch any of the State A tournament?  Both 8th graders made the all tournament team and the one was the MVP.  I would say good chance they are going to be good players.  One of the players she beat out for the MVP just signed with Nebraska as junior.  If you wait until they are seniors you will be left way behind.  But I guess we can keep offering scholarships to Freshman in Michigan.   More butts in the seats with North Dakota kids is right.  A freshman from Mandan was just offered by NDSU this week.  We lost out on a recruit from Grafton that went to USD.  Right in our backyard.   I get there are alot of reasons why students choose where they go to school, just saying we need to have some interest in kids within our state too.

Do you know for sure we do not have interest?

  6. Beer distribution was not very good.  Had to pour everything into cups.  May have been a request of the band, really not sure but I can’t imagine how much money was left on the table by that being such a mess. You couldn’t have gotten drunk if you tried and I can almost guarantee no one left there with a buzz.

Alcohol sales are parts of concerts and can mask a lot of other frustrations.  Alerus needs to get this figured out to stop losing money and keep people coming back to the great shows they are booking.

I dont know if anyone is Watching the class A championship but UND needs to offer both those 8th grades from Minot a scholarship now !!  Not that I don't like all the Michigan girls but we need to keep the good talent here in the state too !  Those girls are going to be good!

The Kinnebrew girl will be a very good college player as well.  Some very good basketball played in that game

  8. In todays athletic climate Is an athletic dept better using resources:

    1) to find businesses donate money to turn average facilities better

    2) find businesses to throw money at NIL deals?

which one is more attractive to todays college athlete?

That was the best part.  Name ONE thing Dom that you said that was actually critical and negative about NDSU football.  Just one.

It would likely be from 12 years ago and than Bohl locked all the media out of a Saturday scrimmage and issued knee pads for when they were ready to come back.

How many of these were playoff games. That is what my point is about. You don’t catch teams sleeping in the FBS playoffs. You got a list of FBS playoff upsets? I’d love to see it.

“If” all those teams made the playoffs. And “If” those regular season games were playoff games. “If” those playoff games weren’t at neutral sites and at the same locations.  Than maybe……..

I’ll take simple, the world is full of fools complicating things.

Is defending a “what if” scenario really simple minded?  Simple minded would be one if.  “if” we want to be considered for that playoff, than we need to move up.

You don’t give a !@#$ what we do, yet here you are criticizing what writers and fans are doing. For someone who doesn’t give a !@#$ what we do, you’re talking a hell of a lot about it.

Lol.  One post is a lot is it??

The fact you are even arguing a pretty deep “what if” scenario is equally as funny.  If FU was in the MOuntain West and if they would have gone 12-1 in the regular season and and if they would have won their conference championship game if the FBS had a 12 team playoff than I suppose FU fans and Don are right, they would have been considered for the playoffs.

Reality is none of that happened and every FCS team could make the same argument.  Instead of throwing a pity party of “ifs” move up.

  13. 24 minutes ago, Bison06 said:

So which is it? Should NDSU stop being a Varsity team beating up on JV teams or imagine and speculate on a successful future with a hypothetical move to FBS.

I don’t give a !@#$ what you do.  Trying to validate it to the common fan with 5 “ifs” in a scenario is funny don’t you agree.  None of what he layed out in his scenario could have happened this year but in FUs fans minds they are now tied to Georgia and would have been in the FBS playoffs

  14. The fact that Dom bases his whole argument on “if” FU was in the Mountain West and “if” they went 12-1 and “if” they won the conference title game and “if” the playoffs was at 12 teams “than” they would have been considered for a playoff spot is comical.  The amount of FU fans eating that up and using it as a “valid” argument on why they need to move up is even more funny.

literally any FCS team could make that argument cause it’s all hypothetical.

also Dom, the commissioner of the Mountain West will leave the table when the P5 commissioners tell him/her the meeting is done.  Not when he/she gets their demands met.

  15. Was a great place to stand and watch the game but I applaud UND/Alerus for getting a business on board to do something creative for football.  Peterson can buy all remaining tickets for every home game in that area for their customers, win/win for both.  If it somehow means more people watching games and more revenue for a program that desperately needs it than we need to do more of it.
