  1. From Sharon Carson's letter: A translation of Sharon Carson’s intentionally racially charged letter seems to be: “Any honor that YOU (the unwashed masses of UND ‘violence-loving‘ sports fans) intend to impart on THEM (Sioux people), is invalid and offensive because you are not enlightened, like WE (the elite and impartial arbitraters of justice) are. How dare YOU (the unwashed masses) to consider yourselves worthy, after your violent history, to impart any honor on THEM (Sioux people). Only WE (the elite and impartial arbitraters of justice) truly understand that those of THEM (Sioux people), who accept your honor, only do do so because of the hostility and abusiveness that YOU (the unwashed) and your culture have suppressed them with.”
  2. Another letter from Sharon Carson: http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/n...al/12856083.htm How many times does Sharon Carson, or Leigh Jeanotte, or Lucy Ganje get to state their opinion in the Herald? But when a pro-Sioux nickname voice gets printed in the Herald, the voices chosen seem to be purposedly shrill and ignorant. Has there ever been a UND faculty member or booster who has been allowed to give a poignant defense of the Sioux name in the Herald? I nominate iramurphy and Yttrium.

  8. Strange juxtaposition - UND/ North Dakota leadership accused of McCarthyism: Logo flap a failure of UND leadership Hmm, aren't the NCAA / PC'ers tactics McCarthy-like by accusations of racially-based hostility and abusiveness?
  9. All the pain of rejection seems to finally be replacing the DI bravado with some real clarity in NDSU-land, based on this column by Kolpack: [url="http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=105057
  10. Has there been any progress toward annoucing a indoor football/track complex? Thought that an announcement might have been made during Homecoming week, but that never happened. Anyone know if the EERC is still coveting the site of the Old REA?
  11. With UND using tuition waivers for women's hockey, the total amount of tuition waived will normally show up on the books as "deficit" spending.
  12. How about a name change to: People Effectivly Empowered by Outraged or Offended Demeanors The acronym then can become: PEE'OODe and members can be PEE'OODes.
  13. The contract extension should give Sioux fans all the more confidence in Buning as AD, especially if a DI move is in the offing. Buning has already shook up the AD department staffing and more changes should probably be expected over the course of his first year.
  14. How about a postive spin? Two things that would keep Lennon here long-term are (a) an indoor practice field, (b) IAA football. IMO Lennon has reason to believe he's getting both.
  15. A Madison paper chimes in: COMMENTARY: Engelstad spinning in his grave This is a side topic, but the constant barrage of "barrenness" is offensive and ignorant. Compared to the tree canopy along the Gulf Coast (sans Ivan, Katrina, Rita), Minneapolis' or Madison's tree cover is a veritable tundra and certainly not verdant. If this reporter (among others) had any spiritual or intellectual depth, the openness, the sky, the black rich soil, would incite wonder, not disdain. In the same way, too many reporters (with exceptions, like PCM, of course ) seem incapable of writing anything more than superficial observations. My rant for the day.
  16. I'm offended by the existence of the U of Minnesota athletic department. As a former resident of Minnesota, isn't that justifiable logic to disband it?
  17. Normally, I would agree with this assessment. But not this time. Fullerton wouldn’t even talk about a two-division Big Sky unless he had some reasonable expectation that it really was going to happen. Moreover, it would be extremely bad taste to tease NDSU and SDSU a third time. During the first rejection, the Big Sky really wasn’t interested. Even though NDSU and SDSU were rejected the second time, they were more like bridesmaids as a two-division conference became a longer-term vision. UNC had to be picked to give the Big Sky an anchor in the Denver media. But this third time will be the charm, as there really will be genuine interest, and in UND even moreso. Both NDSU and SDSU will be out of the transition period in 2008-9, so it can be expected that they would have potential suitors (MidCon may also be showing some interest about now) about two years before -right about now. The Big Sky will accept one school transitioning to DI, but never two or more. By this time next year, we may owe NDSU and SDSU big time gratitude for doing the heavy plowing.
  18. This is premature, but what court jurisdiction would any lawsuit be filed ? Also, anyone know how the new Law School Dean views the nickname issue? Since LeBel has Florida State connections, would FSU, with its own interests in overturning the NCAA's ruling, lend some legal assistance?
  19. N. Dakota to appeal ruling A followup article by the USA Today reporter who earlier painted UND and Grand Forks in unpleasant tones.
  20. The Big Sky may be talking expansion again: http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...&section=Sports The absolute earliest the Big Sky would add teams is 2007-8. This has already been stated by a very respected poster (RD17) on D2football, but with an appeals and court process that may be long and drawn out, the ideal window of opportunity to deal with the 4 years of no home post-season games is during a DI transition. With the Big Sky making a little noise again about adding teams, why not make use of any postseason home game ban by going through the DI transition, when there is no postseason anyway. As has been suggested here before, the Big Sky in 2008-9 (the first years NDSU & SDSU are fully eligible): East - UND, NDSU, SDSU, UNC, Montana, MSU West - Idaho St, Weber St, N Ariz, Sac St, Port St, E Wash The Big Sky would make a precondition that UND's nickname issue must be resolved with no NCAA restrictions by 2011 / 2012, when UND would be fully DI eligible.
