  4. Here are a few "kind" words currently being spread about UND and Ralph on the I-AA football site by non other than Bisonguy and Tony, the 'curator' of bisonville.com. http://www.anygivensaturday.com/forum/show...38808#post38808 I would respond myself, but I need a cool down period.
  5. JBB: Florida State does not pay any royalties to any Seminole tribe. (FSU alumni have however, been helpful in business / political interests (i.e. casinos) for the Seminole tribe of Florida). The Central Michigan Chippewas however, do use portions of royalty income (can't find the reference yet), for scholarships to the Saginaw Chippewa tribe. CMU/TRIBAL STATEMENTS ON NCAA RECOMMENDATIONS
  6. Good politically correct answer (for this board). But then, you really dislike anything PC, so you must not have liked your answer.
  7. Bisonguy, So how do you feel about the NCAA rules? By your previous postings on other forums (I believe), you've been highly critical of the Sioux nickname.
  8. They won't be eligible to host a home game in 2006 or beyond, based on the ruling. Technically, there may be a way to get around it if the conference (NCC) sponsors the post-season game and it is played off-campus (like at the Alerus). This type loophole, if it is technically possible with the rules, could also get "plugged" or Grand Forks as a host could be informally blackballed by the NCAA.
  9. Here's the link: CLC - homepage. Curiously, though, they don't list UND in their links.
  10. Unfortunately, I don't have contacts within the athletic department like you or UND FAN / RD17 / Sic or a number of other posters here have. (I am however, prone to make conjectures about what is going on based on different pieces of info. ) What you are hearing about DI makes sense, as serious talk about a move to DI is probably at least 18 months away (at least from a Big Sky perspective). In the meantime, it would make sense to get the budget in shape, work on a relationship with NDSU (both departments would use more ticket revenue), and get the fundraising going for the indoor practice facility.
  11. The Top Selling Colleges overall! From another message board, a list of the top selling universities that are members of Collegiate Licensing Company was given. (CLC does not hold licensing agreements with a number of schools, like Minnesota.) Period of July 1st 2004 to June 30th 2005. At #53, UND is the only DII school in the top 100 and is only exceeded by one DIAA school, Montana. UND’s revenue is probably helped by the high proportion of hockey jerseys sold, as one jersey gives the same licensing revenue as about 8 to 10 t-shirts. But still, the rating is rather impressive considering that UND is essentially tied with Army, Air Force, Georgetown, and Northwestern, and those logos seem to be everywhere. UND has been consistently around the 50th position for a couple of years. (1.) University of North Carolina (2.) The University of Michigan (3.) The University of Texas at Austin (4.) 14. Earlier this year, the NCAA planned to implement Academic Performance Ratings (APR) for all Division I schools in all sports. A minimum APR rating of 925 is required for individual school sports, otherwise that sport could be penalized with losses of scholarships. For DI schools that routinely lose sophomores/juniors to professional ranks, the APR ratings can drop substantially, as the schools get penalized for early-out professional players who never graduated. As great as NHL draft was for UND signees, the APR formula has to be changed in order to UND’s APR school not to drop substantially with the likely number of early-out players. UND’s most recent score for hockey was 960: http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2/494_2004_apr.pdf In this case, UND had better hope that big boys of Florida/Ohio State/Michigan/Texas get their way on the APR change. Just yesterday, there were these stories on changing the APR formula: Indianapolis Star USA Today Here's a reference to the APR from the NCAA:http://www2.ncaa.org/academics_and_athlete...reform/faq.html
  15. Since the home team “owns” broadcast rights, broadcasting away games does become much more expensive, especially with the equipment issues. But broadcasting away games on FSSN should be looked at, even if the production is not the quality that the Alerus or REA could provide. The radio track could even be used for audio, so TV announcers wouldn’t have to make the trip. For the next media contract, UND should get a statewide TV network (for one or two games) and stick with Clear Channel. Stipulate that the 1/2 hour post-game review TV program with Dale Lennon be broadcast statewide and on FSSN. Have Clear Channel stations broadcast a Sioux radio pre-game show statewide on a Wednesday or Thursday night, maybe even with a call-in session like is done locally. The same could be done for Sioux hockey (if Hakstol agrees), and once football season is over, substitute two 15 minute sessions on Sioux Men’s and Women’s basketball.
  16. JBB (aka as EdtheFred): Yeah, like a 35,000 seat outdoor stadium can become a reality for the bison when they still haven't raised enough money for a BSA renovation. BTW, instead of spending time on the Sioux message board, Erv Inniger could really use your help now as he has a $600,000 deficit from last year and has to raise over a $1 mill more for this year just to keep your head above water.
  17. Attendance would increase if the home games were not televised on the FSSN/cable. But a more strategic goal of the Athletic Department is to increase interest in Sioux football statewide - which FSSN helps accomplish at the expense of attendance.
  18. Hmm - so now EdtheFred refers to himself as a Sioux fan? Kind of JBB-esque statements, if you ask me.

  20. There have been a number of threads of ND's population loss and need for economic development, but relatively little has been written about the economic/population challenges facing most of the geographic areas of Minnesota. Except for the Lake Country and the I-35 corridor (including Rochester), most of Northern, Western, and Southern Minnesota is struggling. In Minnesota, cities (outside the TC region) that seem to be successfully moving forward are Rochester, Duluth (after a long slumber), and maybe Brainerd, Marshall, and Bemidji. Even towns with relatively high-paying corporate jobs , such as Thief River, Roseau, Warroad, (with Arctic Cat, Digi, Polaris, and Marvin Windows) are not growing signficantly in population. To get relocations from outside an area, it seems a city really needs to have not only have well-paying jobs, but at least 50,000 people and be viewed as having cultural/ education/ medical/ recreational outlets. With almost all of these attributes concentrated in the Cities, the dilemmas confronting much of outstate Minnesota seems to get overlooked. This article, orginally in the Wall Street Journal, discusses this issue in the Iron Range. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05209/545130.stm
  21. No real surprise here, but looks like there will be another NHL exhibition at the REA this fall: St. Paul Pioneer-Press
  22. A Forum article on the issues facing the DAC conference: http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...&section=Sports If the DAC goes DII (which IMV is more than 50% chance), the pressure by Sioux fans to move to DI will be huge as being in the same division as Mayville and Valley City will be deemed unacceptable. By going DII, the DAC would likely have more choices for adding schools: like Crookston, maybe UM-Morris, perhaps Chadron St., and maybe even MSU-Billings, which now has horrible travel. IMO, Minot has to move up to DII if they ever want to play DI hockey (their NAIA affiliation prevents this now).
