Looking at those stats, Gopher fans better pray that Briggs doesn't suffer through a Sophomore slump. His numbers from last season are ugly and if they get any worse, especially when factoring in the possibility of three freshmen d seeing ice time down there and Vanek never entering the d-zone or backchecking, it could be a bumpy season in Gopher land. And, man, does that thought sadden me.

From today's Fargo Forum: Chris VandeVelde didn't just pick a college, he dropped an allegiance. "I've always been kind of a Gopher fan," the Moorhead High senior-to-be said Monday, "but I guess now I'm a Sioux." A Sioux player, that is. The Spuds' forward has verbally committed to play men's hockey for the University of North Dakota, despite advances by the University of Minnesota. VandeVelde will join the Sioux in 2005-06 along with classmate Brian Lee, a defenseman who verbally committed in February. "I just really like the coaches and the facility, and everything just seemed to work out there," VandeVelde said. The commitment ended a rapid recruiting rise. The 6-foot-2, 180 pounder didn't score his first varsity goal until the 2002-03 section playoffs. But he followed that up with 19 goals and 25 assists this winter, helping the Spuds reach the Minnesota Class 2A state title game. "It's been really neat to see him grow as a player," Moorhead coach Dave Morinville said, "and see him realize what he's got." This summer was supposed to be a maximum exposure tour for VandeVelde, a speedy scorer who is set to play in events known for attracting college scouts. Instead, with the pressure of the decision behind him, it will feel more like a vacation - on ice. "I didn't think it'd go this fast, that I'd sign right way," VandeVelde said. "But it's nice."

Dressler tore up the Class A ND State Track Meet today winning the 100, 200 and 400.

Every year is a good year to be a Sioux fan - and heaping abuse on the Goofs, well that never gets old!

From today's Fargo Forum: "Hockey Night in Canada" commentator Don Cherry wore an outlandish red wig during the pregame show in tribute to Flames D Mike Commodore, whose bushy hair and beard have made him a cult hero across Canada.

Are you asking who the captains were in those years? If so, I believe it is as follows: '87 - B. Joyce, M. Krampotich and I. Kidd '97 - D. Litke, K. Hoosteen and M. Pivetz '00 - P. Armbrust, J. Ulmer and L. Goren

Man, you are a dope! You are engaged in a "debate" with the father to one of the players on your list (and no it isn't jloos). And, I am guessing the father of that player has a little more insight into the situation than you do. btw, you are doing a terrible job of disguising the fact that you are using several different usernames.

Confirmed Early Departures From Other Programs

Very good question. I believe the answer is about 6-9 months ago. -
So sending one's child to a school for religious reasons or to benefit from that school's higher academic standards is acceptable, but to send a child to a different school with the goal of achieving higher athletic standards is not acceptable? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. skateshattrick, I bet you have some things to say about this topic! Considering six players from 2004's UND squad were arguably recruited by/to SSM you must have had issues with 1/4 of the team this past season? BTW, the Lamoureux family has played a BIG role in GF Central's recent hockey success and they live in the south end of GF, which is RR's jurisdiction so your final argument doesn't carry any weight except with phoenixin05 - then again, aren't you and phoenixin05 the same poster using a different username?

2001 - Panzer! But, that was the year that he and KG started as co-captains and KG asked that the C be removed during the season. 2004 - Schneider had a very average season 2003 - R. Hale, 7 points in 41 games and not reelected for 2004 2002 - C. Mazurak - terrible senior season, IMO, despite decent point production
-
Of late, the C has been a bit of a curse for the UND player wearing it on their jersey. That being said, give it to a d-man - if they all come back UND can afford for one of them to not have a stellar season, but UND CANNOT afford, IMO, to have Bochenski suffer from the captain "jinx"!!!
-
I agree that he was, but I don't agree that he will be. With his size and skill, IF he puts in the requisite time this summer and shakes the distractions, I believe he can have a great senior season and surprise his opponents as well as the Sioux fans.

Lamoureux named USHL's top goaltender

What? I am not sure there is enough peyote in the world to get me to understand the true meaning behind this post.

And if he had, would his opinion then be acceptable? I donate money and have for many years and couldn't give a rats a** about a dog being in the building when absolutely nothing else is going on. What's more, I couldn't care less about a dog being in the building when the Sioux are playing. When it comes to UND hockey and the REA, my only real concern is the team winning. They could have a petting zoo in the northern concourse (right by my seats) during a game and it would have no effect on me whatsoever!!! Dogs in the building . . . . jeez . . . . who cares . . . .
-
Uh, what? Basil, is that you?
-
Silly indeed. The following is from a very recent USCHO article:
-
Hard to believe they beat two of the four #1 seeds by identical 1-0 scores!
-
Agreed. What a dreadful game - I don't feel like that is sour grapes, rather reality. As for the paint, I think it dried long ago, but perhaps I will check and see if the grass is growing.
-
Exactly. And although I no longer have the issue, I don't believe a game was being played at the time the picture was taken. I wonder how many other terrible and rotten things have happened in there when no events/activities are taking place? Besides, doesn't the dog belong to his daughter, Katie? If so, then that alone makes it all right!!!

Neil Sheehy was with Parise at the Hobey ceremony today, so I am assuming he is ZP's agent.

DB recently (4-5 weeks ago) mentioned during a visit to Fargo that unless the opt-in rules are changed and the new proposal adopted, DS would not opt-in.

Prpich - fighting - UMD Smaby - slashing - Denver Hale - fighting - Tech

Either did Vanek last year, but what can you do?!

Let's see: Sedevie has injury problems that cause concern for the coaches and Beaverson appears to have not progressed as expected OR there is a lack of room because (knock on wood) all the d-men are coming back. I don't see a problem, and without knowing the facts don't have an issue with the coaches decision. If DB doesn't think a player is right for the program who am I to say differently. All I know is DB knows what he is doing and I, for one, enjoy the "product" he puts on the ice year after year after year.
