  1. I looked at the site on the link. It has Sioux the spelling correct but it shows a helmet with NDSU and a bison logo.
  2. UND's hockey and football teams should be fine. UND's men's basketball team is off and on but competitive within the conference. UND's women basketball team is gong to get hit hard but it is a winning program so that should be a positive. The question becomes what is important to the perspective conferences. The BSC clearly is football and it seems the Mid-Com is basketball. The dynamics within the conference will determine if the will expand or not and what is important to the conference. One of the reasons that UND, NDSU, SDSU, and USD didn't move to D1 earlier was because of their locations. Anyone who denies that it is a serious roadblock isn't being realistic.
  3. Actually, you will never find a better topic no matter what side of the issue you are on. If you are for keeping the existing name, you have items like freedom of speech and expression, protection from monopolistic organizations, etc. If you are on the other side, you have pride, protection of an identity and culture, etc. Both sides have points and it should be discused. It would be hostile and abrusive to brush the native Americans under the table and forget about them. Remember, Brand suggested that the Universities follow the example of Iowa and Wisconsin which have few native Americans students (off the top of my head I want to say 5 combined but I really need to get factual information).
  4. Originally, the NCAA denied Florida State because it didn't have the support of the Oklahoma Seminoles. Later it was discovered that it was 2 members of the Oklahoma Seminoles out of, I think, 16 board members who didn't approve. The NCAA changed its mind after that (and the threat of a lawsuit including the State of Florida) discovery. Of course, it seemed the NCAA's initial version was if one person didn't like it, then it should be banned.
  5. Another fine example of hostile and abrusive action of the NCAA. You would think rule changes would be prominately announced by the NCAA. On the hand, if UND is serious about moving to D1, it only moves the announcement date up for them as they can do ala NDSU and just make the move.
  6. Actually, rather than party-specific, ND re-elects politicians to Washington of either party time after time with the thought that the seniority brings home more bacon. If you can remember, republicans like Milton Young and Mark Andrews were re-elected time after time. The same was true for Democrats in the past like Burdick.
  7. DenverBison05 posted this link on www.bisonville.com about NDSU's survey. You might find it interesing as the NDSU survey also was against the division change.
  8. I think this section from the Herald's article is rathering telling: It would seem to be a contradiction as the first part suggests limited desire by season ticketholders to play the higher division team but are interested in playing the higher division team when specific teams are listed. I'm surprized that only 61% favor playing teams such as Northern Iowa, Montana, etc. rather than Minot State, Jamestown, etc. Such a change from the view when I attended UND in the 1970s. It wasn't a question of moving to D1AA as much as it was a matter of when.
  9. This is true for almost all the papers. I live in Maryland and it certainly is true for the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun. They do have investigative reports (opinion pieces) but not for sports.
  10. Be careful, restrictions specific to Wal-Mart is already being done in Maryland. The legislature passed a bill that stipulates that a company over a certain size must spend a certain percentage of its revenue to provide health care benefits. The only company in Maryland that fits this description is Wal-Mart and the law doesn't apply to the local government. The legislature does have the right to regulate interstate trade and the NCAA by any measure is engaged in interstate trade. In reality, depending on the court, the laws change based on their interpretation and to ensure that the view of the courts holds a consistent view, it needs to be legislated. Of course, a court could always declare a law unconstitutional and still applies its views - wouldn't be the first or last time.
  11. I will take a stab and say May 19 as the Big Sky Conference meeting is, I believe, May 23. If there is a possibility of getting into the Big Sky, this would send a clear message of UND's future intentions.
  12. The funny thing is, it works against the NCAA as well. The NCAA has lost in court before so it wouldn't be the first time if it happened nor would it be the last. Many times there is a concerted attempt not to get the case into court by various means by the defendent. What is said to the press isn't always the way the case will be handled. The NCAA does have a problem with the Sherman antitrust actions. The interesting aspect of court cases, from what I understand, is that jury trials are much, much more unpredictable than if the verdict is decided by the judge. Either way, this should be interesting to watch. The 800 lb gorilla loses sometimes.
  13. Actually, the BTHC would look more like the old WCHA before Michigan and Michigan State left for the CCHA. In the 1970s, it had those two schools are well as Notre Dame. The only Big Ten school that was not in the WCHA was Ohio State.
  14. If it possible, I would love to still see updates if possible. I tried the above link last night and all I got was a food channel. My local cable company in Maryland had the ND/Michigan listed as being shown at 3:30 in the morning but what I got was the Minnesota/St. Cloud State game. The updates provide a source of information on what's going on with the games Thanks in advance.
  15. I don't think you and I were the only ones.
  16. I see that it is being tape delayed. I have set the recorder for 3:30 in the morning to copy the games. Let's see the current option is volleyball, football, etc., but no college hockey.
  17. Alright, I get to see a Sioux game in Maryland. It doesn't happen often.
  18. Congratulations on a successful season for the women's basketball team. True, they didn't go on to win the national championship but they have much to be proud of. Looking forward to more great seasons ahead.
  19. Also, thanks for the updates.
  20. I was hoping for a score as I live in Maryland and follow the progress by what is posted here and on fightingsioux.com. Usually I get it first here but not last night.
  21. Hmmm. I got you. Only those that present a certain viewpoint will be interviewed. And this will be called objective reporting right?
  22. I am amused. I don't post much here but I do read the site regularly. If you were attempting serious dialog in your first post, this post has accomplished everything but suggest that. You even contradict yourself in praising UND's programs in your first post to belittling them in this post. I'm sure that you can understand why people question your motives. There are rabid fans at all universities including UND and NDSU. It could be argued that NDSU made a mistake but it will take years to recognize it and even more if there is a mistake before it is corrected. On the other hand, it might also prove to be good move. The jury is out on this so everything is conjecture. The $35,000,000 question is whether moving up and being competitive in D1AA football is worth foregoing championship quality teams in other sports. I went to UND in 1975 and I felt at that time it should have joined NDSU in going D1AA as Northern Iowa, Montana, and Montana State did. Both would have if geography wasn't an issue. It is still an issue. At the end of the day, what is gained by going D1AA other than saying that you are a D1 program?
