Two commitments by offerees that may not have reported earlier:
WR CJ Hutton, 5'9“, 170, 4.6, Folsum (Folsum), CA (Two Star - 247 & Scout) Verbal to UC-Davis
OC Seth Thompson, 6'5”, 265, Victoria (Holy Family Catholic), MN Verbal to NIU
I wouldn’t be surprised to see some commits change their minds after watching another poor showing (coaching and performance) but, more importantly, seeing us “quit”!!! If I was a HS coach or a parent who understands FB, I would recommend my player or son not play for a team like this!!!
As I stated in the first post (see below), I considered making that change this time around but decided not to for consistency and to assist the Alumni folks in getting the contribution site up and running as soon as possible. It will likely have a new name next year!
"For consistency, I decided to stay with the "Let's Help Bubba" name again this year. While I do not want to get into this discussion, I know some ss.com members are not necessarily big Bubba fans. Please set those thoughts aside and think about how we can help the team and the health of our players!"
While I certainly share the same concerns that have been posted over the last few weeks, I am pleased to report some good news. We have surpassed the $12,000 LHB4 goal enabling the FB team to purchase the Guardian caps for all 100+ players and specialized knee braces for all offensive linemen. Whatever we think about coaching changes, coaching philosophies, recruiting challenges, the atmosphere at the AL, etc., the need to assist the program with $ will not go away. Thank you to all that helped. If the Alumni Foundation had your address, you should have received a thank you note from Bubba within the last few days.
Thanks again!1
Weather is an issue but as I have mentioned in the past, a bigger challenge is the distance GF is from the majority of the prospects we are after. These kids (especially their families, GFs, etc.) want them to play at a school that they can easily travel to for all home games. These same kids drive by NDSU, SDSU and USD to get to GF. This is a major obstacle that won't go away. Therefore, we need to rely on prospects wanting to attend UND due to the majors we offer, we need to have a successful program, we need to have as good or better facilities and do everything first class. The last couple of "needs" require $ - that is a major challenge!
As has been discussed, getting talented kids out of the Winnipeg area turn some of those issues into an advantage for us. That certainly won't solve the problem but it would help.
