Congrats to the women for a great win and a trip to the NCAA tourney.

The upper deck of the student section and the visitors sections were pretty empty. The students are on spring break. Most of the rest of the arena looked pretty normal. The student section shows up a lot on TV so that probably looked bad.

I think the first phase was about $13 million and the 2nd phase is another $6 million for a total of about $19 million. That would allow them to put bleacher seats over the east side of Memorial. They would also probably have to add seating to the endzone to reach 18,000.

Networks have preferences in the NFL, why wouldn't they have preferences in the NCHC? If they had a choice of New England and Dallas or Jacksonville and San Diego, which game would they choose for prime time? Some teams are going to draw more viewers than others, and they are in it for the money.

I'm pretty sure that they put 2 courts in the Alerus Center and had boys and girls games going at the same time. They may have had a curtain between the courts. I think they did that at the Fargodome in the past also.
-
Phase 2 has been announced, they just haven't finished raising money for it. Phase 2 includes coaches offices, student lounge, and weight room among other things. Phase 2 has nothing to do with Memorial. A renovation of Memorial would have to be a 3rd phase.

Viewing options for Sioux hockey games this season

Didn't Midco have a contract with the Summit for this tournament before the contract with UND for hockey? Maybe that contract took priority over the UND contract, such as league tournament possibly taking priority over regular season games. -
From today's Grand Forks Herald:
-
The playoffs were 2 game total goal series at every level, but most years they didn't play for a championship. Most years they played 2 rounds and the winners of the 2nd weekend usually both went to the NCAA. A few years they played the 3rd weekend and crowned a champion, like 1977. But I don't remember why they did it that way, I just went to the WCHA website and looked at the tournament history. I believe that UND and Minnesota both won 2 rounds in 1980, but they didn't play for a championship. They started playing for a championship on a regular basis in 81-82. UND lost to Wisconsin in the 2nd round, and Wisconsin beat Minnesota in the championship round. The WCHA went to a final 4 single game elimination in 1988.

As is noted above, those articles are a month old. The Herald only keeps articles active for a couple of weeks. After that you need to pay to read articles out of the archives. That has been their policy for a long time.

That's interesting. I knew some of the Midco history involving theaters and broadcasting, and knew that they took over TCI territory, but didn't realize that Comcast had gotten involved.
-
I had also heard that they were looking at moving the president's house, but they hadn't made any decisions yet. I don't see them tearing it down.
-
They want to keep the house, but they didn't have a specific purpose for it as of late last fall. There will be a lot of movement over the next few years with the new Med school building, moving offices into the old Med school and taking some of these other buildings off line.

Comcast used to broadcast St. Cloud games before this year. Comcast has a contract to show multiple St. Cloud games in the Twin Cities this season. That contract was in place before the season, the conflict has happened in the past month. That is a totally different situation. Midcontinent tried to do the same thing as last week, they were not allowed. Your anger toward Midcontinent is showing. You assume that Midcontinent did something wrong. They made an effort to go above and beyond their contract to show UND sports. It didn't work out. They will continue to try to add UND away games where they can make it work.
-
No, Comcast and Charter have actually been competing to buy Time Warner, Comcast stole it away a few weeks ago. I don't think that Charter and Comcast get along at all. I believe that Charter actually does the games for St. Cloud. Maybe Charter is the one that actually refused to let Midco have it and Comcast got blamed, or maybe I heard the name wrong. Either way, Midco wanted to do exactly the same thing as they did for Duluth last week and they were not allowed. They couldn't get rights to broadcast.
-
Yes. That is one of the ways that UND wins the league title.
-
We were with a group of people so I couldn't pursue things much, but it sounded like Comcast had no interest in working with Midco. I've heard in the past that Comcast was difficult to deal with.
-
Comcast won't let Midco have the game.

There is probably a lower max number for woman's games than men's, but I don't think this represents a peak. Attendance growth often trails the actual winning and shows up the following year. There probably aren't as many people following the team closely after a bad year, so it takes time for the good word to spread. Even teams that win championships often have higher attendance the year after the title than they do the year of the title.

Someone in the religious community who is against Satans, who would have guessed?

I'm pretty sure that the Devils Lake school board changed the name because of complaints by parents. They weren't forced by an outside agency. Parents complained and some held their kids out of school, the school board listened to the parents. There doesn't seem to be the same interest in Bismarck, at least enough to force a change right now.

Don't forget Wisconsin in the 70's and 80's.

If you want to get technical about it, the owner of this site actually has the right to edit and control what he allows to be said on this site and who he allows on this site. Or he could assign those rights to other people, such as moderators. This isn't a 1st Amendment issue. The government has nothing to do with it. If the owner of this site chose to remove gfhockey, or any other poster, he could do so. And he could do so with little or no reason as long as it doesn't break discrimination laws. That's actually the way it is in this country on a private web site.

It takes very little refinement compared to most other oil. You could almost use it in a diesel engine right out of the ground. They mainly need to take out sediment and other particles, and some moisture. A lot of other oil needs to be separated into different grades.

The tiebreaker is conference wins. UND has more conference wins than anyone. I know that UND could tie for 4th place if they lose all 4 remaining games, and would take 4th place because of more conference wins. My guess is that if St. Cloud loses all 4 remaining wins they could also tie for 4th, but may not have the tiebreaker over the team they would be tied with. That's why they need 1 more point.
