BC has more guys in the NHL than any other school, so they must be recruiting NHL talent rather than recruiting "4 year players".
-
That has been noted many times. North Dakota has also been known as the Sioux State at times in the past along with those listed. For various reasons, I don't see any of those used for the new UND nickname.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2014-15 season
82SiouxGuy replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
There are fans from pretty much every program that believe their school gets picked on. It rarely has a lot of basis in reality. -
You must have me confused with someone else. I never thought that UND was planning to use Force as a nickname. It was part of a marketing campaign. I said that years ago. I don't think that Spirit is going to be seriously considered for the same reason. It was a marketing campaign. And I don't believe that Roughriders will be picked either. There will be push back from enough local people because of Red River High School, and I don't see the point of having the same nickname as a local high school when there are plenty of other choices. I've said that same thing from the beginning. But, thanks for pulling me into a meaningless thread. And next you'll complain because I responded and said that you were wrong.
-
Obviously you didn't understand my point. 2 of the nicknames you threw out are associated with the states, even if those animals aren't common in the states at this point. Do you see a lot of Tarheels, or Sooners around these days? I think you could find a lot of nicknames that don't fit under present conditions. Also, one of the schools you mentioned is a private school. The point that has been discussed is that flagship, state supported schools often use nicknames based on state nicknames or other state emblems. So USC doesn't fit in the discussion about what flagship state schools have done. Your list of 4 schools in that response are all over the point, hence my saying that I didn't understand your point.
-
I'm not sure who even said it was in the rule book. Dustin said that many times flagships universities have a nickname associated with the state nickname, and that it is his preference. He didn't say it was in the rule book that it had to be. I said that a lot of the main state schools do it, but not all. My point is that it isn't a requirement but that it is very common. I don't remember seeing anyone say that it is an absolute requirement.
-
Not sure what your point is. Michigan is the Wolverine state and the California state animal is the grizzly bear which is a bruin or brown bear. Both are related to the individual regions. Trojans and Spartans can be traced back to ancient Greece. They aren't directly related to California or Michigan. A lot of the main state universities have a nickname related to the local state or region, not all of them do. And USC is a private school so it doesn't even fit in a discussion of what state schools use for nicknames.

Since you see the same quotes from NFL players and coaches, I don't think people should be surprised that those issues happen in college football.
-
That's probably a good lesson for all of us.

The stat sheet linked to earlier on this thread says MSU had 62 net yards rushing on 36 carries. UND had 71 net yards rushing on 32 carries.

He told the Twins that his arm is tired. He has never pitched this many innings. He would rather not throw the pitches needed to warm up and get ready to pitch, then go in to get 1 out, just to get the bonus. He doesn't want to risk getting hurt, he wants to be healthy for the off-season so he can prepare for next year.
-
They can't give it to him. The Collective Bargaining Agreement between the players and the owners doesn't allow giving bonuses that aren't earned. That's why they offered him a chance to earn it.
-
I'm pretty sure that UND makes all of these decisions on tickets. UND rents the facility and decides what to charge for tickets. The only input that the Alerus Center may have would be limits on the standing room area, and that may depend on the Fire Marshall. The suites are a separate topic, they are rented out by the Alerus Center for the entire year. But I'm pretty sure that the contract with UND spells out what can be done with the suites for games.

Noodles and Company Olive Garden Panera Sakura Ruby Tuesday Dunn Brothers Tim Horton Fuji Brick and Barley Spicy Pie opening later this year These are some of the restaurants that have opened in town over the past few years. I think that the tastes in town are probably changing a little and the list you posted shows that, along with a move to take more restaurant business to the 32nd Ave corridor because that's where the business is (although only about 1/2 of the new restaurants are along that corridor).

An interesting take on wolves in North Dakota from almost 20 years ago, http://www.und.nodak.edu/org/ndwild/wolftv.html. It talks about wolves hunting bison in the past. Both Quiznos' were recently sold, they were for sale for at least a year. It sounded like they were both losing money and that was why they were difficult to sell. The Moon is for sale because Ken Towers wants to retire and I believe his son is taking the Wendy's locations. I don't know if the price is fair or not, someone would have to see the books to know. I don't think you will see much for replacements along that stretch. The Japanese steak house was added just a couple of years ago. Overall, I don't think that the number of restaurant seats available along Washington has changed that much in the past several years. You might see some restaurants further south on Washington, down by Choice Fitness, within the next few years. The new Hugo's will probably be built next year and that will attract more business in that area. That Perkins hasn't been updated in years. The only time I see the parking lot filled is on Sunday morning. I don't think that the Walmart alone is going to increase business along that stretch for the restaurant crowd. It is probably the first stop coming into town or the last stop on the way out of town so people can eat when they are in other parts of town.
-
I don't think it's that difficult. Also, announcers aren't going to say the whole name that many times during a broadcast. They will usually say either the school name or the nickname, but not both. They will also shorten it by dropping University of. Nokotas isn't that much different than being called NoDaks, which is used some now.
-
How often is anyone going to do that in real life?

As President of the University, he was always going to have the final decision (unless the State Board took it away from him).
-
From past experience I would guess that the committee will develop the process and will go through the process. They will probably send a short list of recommendations to Kelley, and may or may not have a favorite on the list.
-
They are getting more done with a similar number of workers. Still have a lot of job openings in that region. Still have about 190 rigs drilling, plus they have to maintain an ever increasing number of wells (they are adding about 2,500 working wells every year and only closing a few old wells each year). Plus all of the construction all over the region.

The entire Bronson property, including the land where the REA sits, is owned by UND. It is all part of campus. That is why the new medical school building is being built north of the REA on the corner of Highway 2 and Columbia Road. The State Board of Higher Education gave permission to allow alcohol sales on the property leased for the REA. Alcohol is also allowed in the President's house, Chester Fritz Auditorium, the Gorecki Alumni Center, and I believe the Center for Innovation for special events. There may be other cases.

Homecoming is October 11th against Portland State according to undsports.com.

The plates are only available to support 501 © 3 organizations. The organization has to be a non-profit that is recognized by the IRS as a 501 © 3. The organization has to apply to create the plates. A portion of the fees will go back to the organization (I believe that part of the purpose for the plates was as a fundraiser). The Alumni Foundation could apply to set up plates to support UND because supporting UND is the purpose of the Foundation. A bunch of individuals can not just get together to set up plates.
