Here are a few of my thoughts on the game today from being there. WW played a good game. They were more physical than I would have expected. They have some decent quality skill players. They had a great offensive scheme in the first half. Everything was 3 step drops or less and quick hitters. UND's defensive line did not have time to get any pressure and the D backs were playing soft. WW got a lot of 5-10 yard plays. Also, the 2 successful trick plays in the game made a big difference. UND seemed a little flat and half a step slow in the beginning. The D was slow to adjust to the offense. In the second half they seemed to play tighter coverage. This made WW adjust their patterns and use deeper drops which gave the D line time to get pressure. Other than a big trick play, WW did very little on offense in the second half. Belmore had some good series and some bad. The offensive line seemed to take more control in the second half and the running game picked up speed and a lot of yards. Penalties hurt some in the second half. It was an ugly game. The kicking game for both teams had problems. After playing well in the first 3 games, UND may have had a little bit of a let down for a non-ranked opponent. Belmore is still not playing as well as he did early last year, either he needs to improve or Manke needs to heal quickly. There is still plenty of room for this team to improve, but I think this is a very strong team with a lot of potential. They also have to face some strong teams in the NCC. It should be fun watching the NCC season develop.

Aff, are you related to Miss Cleo? You seem to think that you are able to read minds. And unless you are living in Grand Forks, you must be doing it from quite a distance. That would be very impressive if you weren't so far off from the truth. I don't claim to know Kupchella well, but I have talked to him several times. He is a deliberate person. He plans moves very thoroughly. That is why he decided to take an extra year in the move up. He is going to take the time needed to do this move right. There are many ways to raise the money needed and they will review every possibility to find the right mix of sources. He also works very hard to make something happen when he makes a decision. That is why many of us aren't worried, it is far too early in the process to be worried. His long term plans for the University have proven very successful so far and we have no reason to belive that he won't be successful with this process. So relax a little bit and let the process play out some. If they don't have a plan announced in a few months and definitely before they reach the exploratory year, then we can all be concerned.

I would guess that they have some kind of insurance policy for unsigned players. They wouldn't leave themselves open to a lawsuit in case of injury.

Tickets still have to be issued for suites, SRO, etc. They should have a count on all tickets issued including the bowl and others. My impression is that UND has chosen to use a figure that includes actual seats that they have available to sell in the media guide. Suite tickets (sold as a package by the Alerus Center) are not available for general sale but will be counted as issued. SRO seats do not exist so those are extra tickets sold when seats are not available. That is how they got the 13,500 figure that occured against the school from the south. I don't remember the risers used for any games yet but I could be wrong.

Have they posted a schedule for your turn as king yet? I haven't seen a schedule lately, but I was sure that my turn should be coming up soon.

Where did I tell you that you shouldn't post your opinion? I said that if you thought that this specific line of discussion was getting old you had the option to not read it. Maybe I strongly suggested it. I didn't say anything about not posting. And don't worry, I was far from pissed. You will be able to tell if I ever get pissed. Maybe the little smiley should have been a clue for you. I don't have a problem with you or anyone else disagreeing with me (or anyone else) or debating a topic. I do have a problem when you treat people like they are stupid or crazy just because they say something you don't like or disagree with. You sometimes have a very confrontational style as well as being negative. That combination does not help a discussion. Does this sound familiar? Of course I am going to prefer reading a positive scenario more than a negative scenario. I guess I'm funny like that, I would prefer to dream about something good happening. That doesn't mean I don't also want to read an honest evaluation that doesn't look as rosy. But after you realize there is a possibility that UND could be an independent for many years, how many different ways can you look at that same scenario. Then you look for different ways to avoid that scenario whether the ideas are far-fetched or not. The bottom line is UND and all Sioux fans have to be realistic about the move to D I and look at all of the possibilities so that alternatives can be explored to make the move successful. If you want to call me a homer, go ahead. I resemble that remark since I am a UND grad, grew up watching UND sports and have season tickets for UND football and hockey. I also try to keep an open mind and I am willing to explore potential options that will benefit the school. The best way to find a great solution is to look at as many options as possible and pick the best one. During that process you can eliminate options that don't work. But you don't have to make fun of those ideas or the people that suggest them.

Hey aff, here's a thought. If you you think that this line of discussion is "getting real old", DON'T READ IT. People have a right to discuss ideas without people putting them down, whether the ideas make sense or not. This entire scenario coming true is almost unbelievable. But, as has been noted before, crazier things have actually happened. So you can count me as 1 person that likes to read the different scenarios even though I am very aware that noone on this board knows what is going to happen to UND in their search for a conference and very little (if any) of what is discussed will actually come true. Also, the thought isn't that a single BB game with UND in Denver is the deciding factor in making Denver want to join the BSC, thereby getting UND into the BSC. But building a rivalry in all sports, and building on an existing rivalry in hockey, may be a part of the mix in the BSC trying to attract Denver. And that small item is 1 difference in the draws of UND versus the SU's for the BSC. It is going to take a lot more than this to make UND attractive to the BSC. We all know about the geography problems and the feelings of the West Coast schools. But it often takes a bunch of small items to add up to the whole and make the entire project viable. Maybe bringing UND along as a rival for Denver might be one of those small linchpins that make it work for the BSC expansion either now or later. If you want you can just think of it as a little North Dakota Dreaming.

And this from St. Paul. Good for Brooks, it looked like he was being squeezed out in New York with 2 other veteran QBs and a rookie high draft pick.

Can we just forward that on to the NC$$ along with a copy of our last appeal?

The ETI does use the offices and conference rooms (the addition that was put on the west side). I don't ever remember hearing that the building wasn't structually sound although that is possible. I did hear that it needs a new roof and would take a lot of work to convert for another use. I think that the cost of the renovations would be more than the building is worth, it would probably be cheaper to tear it down and build new than renovate.
-
I am still in, but it would be great to get some more people in so we can bring the price back down at least a little.

If you get the job will you be giving up your new season tickets?

Welcome to section 306. I am way at the top, so make sure you don't stand up the whole game and block my view.

I think that they just meant that Division II is much lower profile than the big name schools in Division IA. I don't think they meant that UND is low profile in Division II.

It isn't invalid unless they decide it is. If Congress passes a law it isn't recinded just because people don't follow it exactly as they wrote it. It a treaty between 2 countries is made it isn't automatically recinded because 1 country doesn't follow it to the letter. If 2 parties enter into a contract the contract isn't automatically voided just because a single clause isn't completed. The only way a legal document has an automatic ending is if it is written into the document that way. This one wasn't. The tribal council has to pass a new resolution to replace the current resolution. They have said that they don't have any current plans to do that so they must have determined that the conditions are still fine. So they must think that UND is living up to the bargain enough to keep it in place. The whole thing is pretty basic contract law. They teach that in business school at UND.
-
What part of this quote: don't you get? Yes the resolution had conditions. UND has admitted they didn't do enough yet to live up to the conditions. But the tribal leaders still have no intentions of rescinding the resolution so they must believe that UND has made some efforts. It is their resolution so they can decide how they want to proceed, I don't think they need your help interpreting. Move on. Don't you have enough to discuss over on Bisonville about the possibilities of joining the MidCon?
-
You really are trying to push some buttons today. Spirit Lake issued a statement in 2000 saying that they were in favor of allowing UND's use of the Fighting Sioux name as long as UND did not abuse it. This has been discussed on this board many times. Name opponents and the NC$$ tried a lot of pressure in recent years to get the tribal council to issue a statement against the name. Earlier this year they said that they stand by their 2000 resolution and don't see any point in making any further resolutions unless UND does not fulfill their side of the last one. The tribal council believes they have more important issues to deal with on the reservation. So there is your answer, they gave it 6 years ago. Try a question that hasn't been answered many times before or leave it alone.

I think I am a little old to be your son. But I try to think young.

I could bring a .22 over and try hunting it. I used to be pretty good when I lived on the farm. You don't think the police would mind hunting in town do you?

My guess is that at least some of the new facilities will be paid for by large donations that have not been completed yet. If you know anything about philanthropy you know that the largest exchange of wealth in history will happen over the next 10-25 years as the Greatest Generation leaves us. It is much easier to do things properly when you plan in advance, and that is what the Facilities Master Plan is all about. No one said that any or all of the facilities will be built in the next year. Yeah, tickets and the cost of an education will probably go up. That is what happens at pretty much all schools that move up in classification and most people realized that it was probably going to happen at UND. So why are you so surprised?
-
That is part of the public opinion. Other schools would have nothing to do with them, people in the region would complain, they would have great difficulty in raising funds, etc. The only possible way a school could even try something this outrageous would be a small private school, and they would end up isolated.
-
The NC$$ would still have no place in removing such a name or sanctioning a school like this. That should be left up to the court of public opinion or to offices like the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights. The US government would have a major problem allowing federal funding to be used at a school that supports hate or discrimination so they would probably step in to make changes. The only way the NC$$ would have any right to step in is if they had proof that somehow this school was disruptive or threatening at an NC$$ event.

We get it, you worship Chapman. I will be the first one to admit that he has done good things for NDSU. I know many people that work for SU and they all think he is great. But if he isn't following orders from a superior, or following the chain of command, or if he is doing something else that is wrong then he should face the proper consequences. Whether he has done anything wrong or not has yet to be determined. As far as the move to DI, if the SU's hadn't moved when they did then it is a strong possibility that UND wouldn't be going now. They would probably all still be in the NCC and DII. Or they may have been looking at all moving together. But you are correct, Chapman's decision several years ago was a factor in UND's decision this month. Only time will tell if this was really a good thing for either school.

I don't know what games you were going to, but after I moved back to Grand Forks in the mid 90's I went to very few games because I couldn't get tickets. There were some open seats in the student block for some games, mainly non-conference, but they weren't sold until after the game had started (rush seats). You had to go stand in a line and wait for a chance to possibly get a seat. The students controlled almost half of the seats in that building because their (our) student fees paid for a large portion of the building. Going alcohol free would not decrease attendance a great deal, but it would cut revenue and profits. Why should the Ralph decrease revenues if they don't have to? The REA and UND athletics are trying to build revenue to help pay for a move to Division I/I-AA (or have you forgotten).
