Here is a little tidbit from the GV board, thanks to Alabama Laker Fan. Places to go in Florence but also another one's thoughts on the rooting interests by the locals. : First, thanks for the nice words about our volleyball team. We are extremely proud as they are now the D2 national champions. It was sad to see in the local newspaper this morning 3 full pages about the loss to UND and one little column about the volleyball team winning it all...only in the South. Here are my Florence Tips: Best Hotels: Hampton Inn (Florence) & Holiday Inn (Muscle Shoals); Webster Inn in Tuscumbia is pretty good as well. Restaurants: Florence has a LOT of restaurants for its size. Most of them are located on Cox Creek pkwy. There are mostly chain restaurants there (O'Charleys, Applebees, Chili's, etc.) and a decent mall. If you want a pricey, fine dining experience go to Dale's Steakhouse. It is absolutely fanatastic but you will pay $25 a plate. If you live in Florence and someone is coming to visit you, the one place you take them is Ricatoni's. It is an Italian restaurant with great atmosphere located in downtown Florence--about 5 minutes from the stadium. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but will be VERY crowded. The best hamburger in town is at Stagg's Grocery. They are unbelievable! They are only open for lunch so you might want to go there on Friday or Saturday. Bars & clubs: Florence has none (collective GVSU gasp here). Lauderdale County (where Florence is) is a dry county meaning that you cannot serve alcohol on tap. We have restaurant bars where you can drink all you want, but just not on tap...don't ask me why. If you really want a bar, you can drive across the river to Sheffield (about 5-10 minutes). However, how do I say this?, you may run into some stereotypical, Deliverance-type Alabamians. Don't say I didn't warn you. If you really want bars/clubs, you will have to go to Huntsville which is about an hour east. It is very easy to get there though (one road...hwy 72). H'ville is a city of about 100,000 and they have quite a few choices. Parking: Parking for the game will be a nightmare as Braly has NO official parking lot. Everyone parks in the neighborhood around the stadium. Get there early or prepare for a hike. I'm sure you'll all be there plenty early though...will be a nice atmosphere several hours before the game. Let me know if you have anymore questions or need directions anywhere! Local newspaper had front page story about the UND & GVSU game on Saturday. Have lived through many national championship weeks here in Florence and it is always interesting to see which team the local crowd will pull for. I have a feeling it is definitely going to be the Lakers. North Dakota treated our fans like garbage on Saturday and word is spreading around town. They don't stand a chance against you guys if they're not in their dome. Can't wait to have you all here. We better hear "Sweet Home Alabama" blaring from every one of your cars as you roll into town! Your Florence e-tour guide, A.L.F.

First of all, Beasley was a fluke!! Richie hit the lottery, even he admits he thought he was only the third best of the three juco's that year. Beasley was the only one of the three that had a decent attitude. As far as Parks, lets wait at least a year or two and see what happens. Maybe he has problems to come, ala Lolar. Even if you count these players as studs, Glas has a tough time molding teams with smart players, mental toughness and depth. Hell, he couldn't make a team of out of last years team with all those veterans including many people who had been in the program for 4 years. Teams were triple and quadruple teaming Beasley and he still couldn't get anything out the offense besides a 26 foot fadeaway by Brandt. And that is a whole other story when local kids up and quit on the program after 4 years. Their distaste for Glas made them leave and give up four years of hard work. If that doesn't say something about him!!! The attitudes from some of these players have been just ridiciulous the past few years. Let's bring in a real coach who knows the game and start building a tradition in the new arena!! Every other UND program that has decent funding behind it is a solid program except for men's BB. Isn't 16 years of the Reverend enough?

And when he's off(Bowenkamp), he is BAD!! Can at times have the most inaccurate passes one would see at this level of competition. Has a tendency to misread coverage and force things. But as PCM said, when he is "on", the Sioux passing game is almost unstoppable.

I don't know why anyone would want to post over there with the infamous JBB lerking to attack, what a moron. Most people on the Bison board are ok, but JBB makes it worthless to even attempt to be civil over there. Man, can he come up with the BS! He cannot talk about the Sioux without getting his panties in a bunch! He just basically makes stuff up, oh well, no big loss for me to not post over there.

Last night on the Sioux highlight TVshow, all the seniors spoke of their memories of UND and what they will miss and Irvin spoke like he was not going to be back.

Herald Editorial - UND Football Ticket Prices
teamsioux replied to CoteauRinkRat's topic in Football
Exactly Sikatoka. It has been basically sold out for a while. I know of many people who are without tickets who would gladly pay 27.50 for a ticket. The market has proven that this price is acceptable for a game like this. Everyone should quit complaining and just watch the game on tv then. Cripes, I would pay 27.50 not to listen to John Bernstrom and his sideline reporting. -
I know that in past years UMC received $15,000 to come up to GF

I see that Brandt's little brother has signed with Minot St for BB. He is a wing that averaged 10.5ppg and 4+ rpg for Minot High. Hopefully the younger one doesn't shoot as many off-balanced 27 footers like Jeff or there will not be enough BB's to go around for the rest of the team.

Any new rumors out there on a point guard?

Here is what ESPN insider had to say about their projection of him falling to Cleveland at #31. It could Jerome and LeBron leading Cavalier back to the playoffs!! 31.Cleveland Cavaliers Jerome Beasley Power Forward | 6-10, 242 Senior | North Dakota -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Skinny: The Cavs struck gold in the second round last year with Duke's Carlos Boozer. Can they do it again this year? Beasley, the top Division II player this year, has the size and NBA body you love in a power forward, and he has a sweet face-the-basket jumper. He isn't as physical in the paint, but the Cavs will have Boozer to do the dirty work. Beasley could be one of the steals of the draft at No. 31.

I found this on ESPN Insider about the Beas' having a shot to go in the middle of the first! This is the highest I have seen him possibly projected out of the many mock drafts. They also have Dallas at #29 being interested, but have him actually going to Cleveland at #31, which is 2nd pick of 2nd round. Also,NBADraft.net has him back in the 1st round to Dallas at #29 and Hoopshype.com has him at #27 to Memphis. From ESPN Insider.com: 18. New Orleans Hornets Jarvis Hayes Shooting Guard | 6-7, 220 Junior | Georgia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Team Needs: Power Forward, Shooting Guard | Depth Chart -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No 2: Alexsandar Pavlovic, Yugoslavia Sleeper Pick: Jerome Beasley, North Dakota The Skinny: The Hornets are slowly edging their way into front office purgatory alongside the Clippers, Wizards and Warriors. They're just flat out goofy. So forgive us if we predict a smart pick here. Hayes could go as high as No. 7 to the Bulls, No. 10 to the Wizards or No. 13 to the Grizzlies. But our guess is that he falls into the Hornets' lap at No. 18. His outside shooting touch and athleticism will be a nice complement to Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn. If he's not around, they also like Pavlovic. And from the weird rumors department, they've been doing some extensive background checks on North Dakota's Jerome Beasley. Originally, the Hornets' plan was to take someone like Brian Cook here. With Cook moving up and out, at least one source in New Orleans claims that Bob Bass has become enamored with Beasley. This is pretty high for Beasley to go, but factor in the goofy comments above, and it just might make some sense.

Yeah it would be nice to have someone in the NBA acknowledge UND and help the program. Something that Phil Jackson doesn't do.

Here is an interview with the Beas' done by HoopsHype.com: HoopsHype.com Interviews Jerome Beasley: "Give me a year or two and I could be starting" by Steven Koek / May 28, 2003 - Photo: Suns.com How has the workout structure worked for you so far in trying to showcase your talent to some of the top evaluators in the league? Jerome Beasley: I

Beasley is working out again today(10th) for the T-Wolves.

does anyone does else have any updates on these two? Is Lueck eligible or taking classes this summer to become eligible?
-
So Brennan is not coming back for sure? And Lueck will be eligible?
-
What is the situation with the possible recruits at point guard? Are they D1 transfers or juco? Any idea on how long it will be before decisions are made?
-
And to take pictures!
-
I think he said he worked at the south one.
-
Any word on a possible signee yet? Time to start worrying!?!

I heard their was a Siouxrock sighting at Perkins. Customers orders have been getting mixed up in the kitchen because the order ticket has illegible handwriting and very poor spelling.

The geniuses over at on of the Bison boards give us a good laugh again!! These damn grade inflations at UND. Just another scandal we have to worry about, damnit!! Here it is as they speculate: I doubt grades were the culprit for two reasons: 1) He would have been kicked off the track team also. 2)The Myron Allen Incident. Any school where a student has a 3.2 GPA and is offered a full-ride scholarship for not having to play BB anymore, and then immediately leaves to pursue a glamorous career in semi-pro BB making $18,000 a year and living in budget motels is a little suspect of "grade inflation". Myron Allen, Criminal Justice Club, Fargo Residency, and Mahmoud. That's a lot of scandals for such an illustrious school, such as UND.

Not bad for someone who is under .500 for his career as a starter!!
-
I know have seen it somewhere, but does anyone have the hockey schedule for next year?
-
I also think it is in Vanek, Ballard, Martin, Tallackson and Riddle's best interests to get to the pros right away. Take the cash and run boys!!!
