  1. How much would you like to bet, it comes the the "name change" side of the debate. Much like GK "website"
  2. Since the Indians that had the feast with the settlers were not Sioux, the event didn't really happen. And since the event didn't happen Thanksgiving isn't real holiday... Therefore it is abusive and hostile to celebrate it.
  3. Vanek WAS the most over rated player ever to wear the so called "treasured M" goofer jersey... Sorry Sagard... Couldn't resist
  4. I added this in a different thread before I noticed this thread: How about the Warriors, using a Viking warrior as a mascot. I would guess the AI will bitch about the name warriors, but since it is a Norse warrior, and they don't have exclusive rights to the word, it would work. It has a huge localized meaning with all the Scandinain culture the Dakotas have

  6. As much as I hat e to say it... It is over and the lawsuit will do nothing. The denial was based on the fact that 2 of the 3 tribes in the state do not support the use of the name. And that the one tribe that does, would not respond to the NCAAs request for a formal letter of support. And even if they had it, I am guessing that a 2 to 1 vote from the tribes still would have been enough for the denial. So here is my question and poll to others: a) change the name so we can host sanctioned events b) keep name This may sound harsh, but at this point, as much as I love the name, I am ready for a change. The present tribes no longer respect the decisions of the past elders to support of the use of their name. Because of this they have lost integrity and honor. The University chose the mighty Sioux name because of those traits, if they no longer possess them, why should we identify the school with them. Other cultures portray the same qualities and have local connections to the land. My 2 cents, broken hearted, but ready to move on
  7. Not seeing anything listed on the REA employment page. Any more news on this, or who to contact about the position?
  8. OK, what is the final verdict. First I read that the tribes voted unanimiously to back the NCAA ruling, then the vote is 3-2 against the nickname, with the Turtle Mountain Chippewas and the Spirit Lake Tribe voting pro-nickname. This information seems to contrdict one another. Now if the Spirit Lake tribe supports the name, which is the tribe that gave UND premission when asked to become the Fighting Sioux, where does that leave the argument, since it seems there is no overall national Sioux tribal council to decide that matter? It seems alot like the FSU situation. The Florida tribe supports the name, whereas the Nebraska (might be Oklahoma, can't remember for certain) tribe does not. Once again, there is no clear solution for this issue
  9. you tell us to do research so we don't spread ignorance, but your post lacks any sense. The article talks about the history of the mascot change from a terrier to a leprechun. Explain what you are trying to say.
  10. Kracker or KnowtheFacts - I ask you AGAIN to supply a link to the evidence of your claim that the Sioux nation has formally requested a name change. I do know that certain localized tribes in SD and NE have, but I have found nothing on the National Sioux tribe or the ND localized tribes it was originally named for, asking for a name change. You continuiously claim you have all this evidence, but you NEVER support it. The Sioux tribe members I talk to, have no idea what you are talking about. I will also guarentee you that the Lakota I talk to are MUCH more educated then you are, so don't hind behind your "they aren't educated enough to know" shield. Thank You
  11. Actually Kracker, since you can't see past your hate. I will help you out a little. Vikings did and do still exist, but the term Viking was not what they called themselves at the biginning. They called themselves Norwegiens or Finnish. The term Viking was "dropped" on them by others, which they "adapted". The Viking culture is alive and well, but most of the decendents have assumulated into society, while holding on to their past culture. There are still settlements in isolated regions of Norway, that hold on to more of their past then others, except for the raiding of other countries. So before you say anything else stupid and hateful, try your own suggestion and go to the library and do some research. And one final suggestion, if you want to stop racism and the trouble it causes, start with the person you see in the mirror.
  12. I can't decide whether the sitcker is tastful or tacky. But I do think the extra game that Paukovich had to sit out due to the hit was a tacky move by Gwozdecky. Everybody knows that is their opponent had been anyone but Bemidji, Paukovich never would have sat out. That was more than tacky, it was a disgrace
  13. Crap, this was the last bracket I wanted us to end up in
  14. The shots were 70 for POI, only cause we lost track after the first 20 minutes. I would guess that they were actually WELL into 3 figures by the end. Nice game, Stuckinfargo! and thanks for everyone who played.
  15. Even though most, NOT ALL, of the gopher fans would take this opportunity to crack North Dakota, of SCSU, or Duluth jokes... I call on good sportsmanship and good human nature to wish this kid best wishes with his "fight against his demons", rather than taking pot-shots at him. And I call on the gopher fans to do the same for Bina Hate to see this happen to anyone, even a gopher. To a good final run for UND, and a ALL WCHA FINAL FOUR
  16. Article on FoxSports Brandon Bochenski
  17. As a Sioux fan that frequented the POI board for ice times and WCHA scores, it saddens me to see it go. Thanks to Sal and UPB for all their hard work on that board and kudos to all that make the SS.com board go. Thanks
  18. Man, you just exiled yourself on the SS, POI and GPL boards. Bad call, Lumpy
  19. I would have to agree with these 2 as well as a few of the goaltenders we have had in the past few years.
  20. Good article when talking about hockey.. Poor article that it showed only the "one-side" of both Ralph and the name-change issue and didn't even mention that some the the past Sioux players were/are part of the national Sioux Tribe. Hopefully, that will come out if they do put some of the games on ESPN2
  21. Nicely stated NDH. God Bless and Best wishes to Dean, his family, and all involved.
