I think Hakstol is smart to bring in players like Spirko and Duncan, who will play for 4 years. Those guys become fan favorites, and help the consistency of the team culture.

So far, UND's defense doesn't look so great. They've been allowing yards on almost every play. Dressler runs 92 yds for a TD on the K.O.! Thank goodness for that.

Thank you for directing folks to the appropriate thread. I wanted to get it on the Hockey board, because I don't think full awareness is present there. UND is hosting the Western Regionals this season, and many who have griped about the NCAA's decision may not be aware of the Letter.

In President Kupchella's Open Letter to the NCAA (http://www.UND.edu/president/html/statements/NCAAletter.html), he has produced a gem of a document that profoundly states that UND will not sit quietly while this assult on our beloved University looms heavily over this coming season. Bravo! I have not been a big fan of Kupchella in the past. In fact, until now, he has appeared ambivilent toward the Fighting Sioux name. I was afraid he was one of those outsiders who bend to the slightest breeze of political correctness. I was wrong. Bravo, Mr. Kupchella. Fight on Sioux.

Hello, faithful. I appologize for the lateness of these random thoughts, but my life has been in an upheaval lately, and I've not been on the boards much. You see, I've got a 5 month old at home, and I've just taken on a new job. Blah...blah...blah. Okay, on with it. THOUGHTS (in August) of the Frozen Four: Columbus was a bit dull, but OSU had a very nice arena. Probably second in the nation to UND. Against UM: UND looked very hungry, and banged UM around all game. The Goofs didn't want any of that physical play, and it hurt them badly. The Championship: Mannino (sp?) was the difference. Wow! That guy played an incredible game as a freshman. Gauthier (and the whole Denver celebration in front of the UND crowd) after the empty net goal to make it 4-1 really bothered me. He banged on the glass several times, just to rub it in to the UND fans. If anyone from the Sioux defensive corps reads these boards, please take note. Knock his head off next season. Thank you. Zajac is incredible. If Stafford and Spirko can raise their games a little this season, we could have another "Line of fire" on our hands. I like how Parise battled, but honestly, he didn't seem to be seeing the puck well. He had good positioning, though. And he handled the puck away from the net very well. A bunch of people criticized him for this early on, but he seems good at it. The highly regarded UND defense had an off-game. They played greatly against UM, then allowed a lot of scrambling, chaotic moments vs. DU. That was the most disappointing thing about this game to me. And Greene showed a lack of control, taking a poor penalty late in the game. I really like his fire, but I think he still needs to work on his control during critical times of the game. As the announcers said, "You have to play to the clock, and the score (as a defenseman)." I hope he comes back and shows us all exactly how good he can be. UND fans were awesome. Every time I've been to the finals with UND fans, I've been impressed. Once again, we showed up in good numbers. I saw people from all across the nation. We cheered loud. We showed great pride in our Fighting Sioux.

Actually, I like the "F@#$ You, NCAA" idea, but I guess the school can't do that, so the plain white jersey with generic looking "Plyoff jersey" letters is pretty good.

IMO, the difference between this freshman class and 2001's is the offensive talent. Bochenski was a blue-chipper, but the rest of that class were, at best, blue-collar type college players (with the exception of Fornier, who had no work ethic). Specifically, Toews, Kozek & Duncan should be able to jump right into the college ranks without too many problems. Like Spirko, they will likely not play "like freshmen." Expect this team to be very exciting, with high scoring games both ways. Lots of mistakes, but lots of highlights as well.

No. "God bless the Fighting Sioux!" is one of my favorite phrases from recent years' commercials. It's just unusual enough to be funny.

Not nervous yet. Still need to travel to Columbus tonight. Tomorrow afternoon, at the Sioux fans party, I'll get pumped. I love when the pep band shows up and blasts out some tunes in close quarters. Good times.

Just booked my flights. Don't know where to stay, yet. Anybody got the scoop on where the Charter or Pearson folks will stay? Anybody else having trouble finding much information on Columbus and local events surrounding the Frozen Four?
-
Thanks for the link, but nobody so far is talking about any specifics as far as meeting places in Columbus. I've never been there. I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow Sioux fans. How about some insight as to where we UND fans can gather? Go Sioux!

I saw this "old logo" situation on TV last night in a sports bar here in California. It really annoyed me, too. However, this is no worse than the last time UND made the Frozen Four, and the DUFUS announcer said "Notre Dame penalty on......"
