This is not yet posted on the "News" board, so here is a link to the Herald: http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/i...;section=Sports I'm continually amazed that a city the size of Grand Forks keeps up this kind of support. But then, Grand Forks has been doing things "bigger than its britches" since the 1880's.
-
With Duncan back in the mix, UND's scoring gets a nice boost. I'll bet he is poised to have another 40 something point year, and greatly help UND's chances in the post-season. I'm wondering if he will be paired with Gregoire or Toews on the top line. That will be fun to watch.
-
From the standpoint of someone that can only hear the game, DU seemed to win that period. More scoring chances, and more time in UND's zone, especially 5 x 5. UND has two 5 x 3's, and can't muster good scoring chance? They don't seem to be "on fire" in this game, with the possible exception of Oshie.
-
Our defensemen need to stop missing the net. It turns against the offense when they keep blasting it high.
-
Tech playing better than UND so far. I was afraid of this after last night. They have all the jump. UND looks flat.
-
A Sioux fan forever. Still steaming about how sloppy UND was on offensive odd-man rushes, and that the "stingy defense" let MTU take so many shots compared to Friday, but maybe a reality check was needed. As always, we will be there, cheering on the program. Go Sioux!
-
MTU is in a GREAT situation, because they just embarrased the (formerly) #1 seed Sioux in their own barn, and they have nothing to lose. Why on Earth UND did not take the game more seriously is beyond me. Oh, well, I guess it is human nature to slack off now and again. I just don't think it is the mark of a championship team.
-
Well, we still don't know if this is a "great team". They have done some special things, like setting records for most games without a loss. However, they have something to learn about pissing away scoring chances without shooting. No way UND will be successful in the playoffs unless they get over that. If an obvious pass is evident, make it. If not, SHOOT!
-
That was a terrible loss. Stop prancing around in front of the net and SHOOT THE PUCK! God, they screwed up a bunch of good scoring chances tonight, without a shot on goal. And, playing not to lose = losing by not playing to win. More aggressive tomorrow. Less futzing around in the opponent zone, and more shots on goal are needed.
-
Fricken sloppy 3rd period! Where was the offensive pressure? They spent too much time playing not to lose in that period, which simply does nto work for UND. I know people talk about how great their defense has been, but Hak said it right when he said their best defensive games are when they don't play in their own zone much.
-
Tech playing better than last night. But, UND looking very good at moving the puck out of the defensive zone, with Bina, Finley, and Genoway all looking very good. Oshie playing well, despite being in obvious discomfort (between plays, I see him nursing his upper body). Duncan looking sharper, now that the playoffs are here. That is a very good sign. Go Sioux!
-
Great game for UND tonight. Overall, they reached the kind of quick passing, physical playing, sharp-looking hockey that they have displayed for the last 3 years at this time. The difference this year (I hope), is that JPL and the defense are a little better and more seasoned, so no more wild losses like the BC game will happen this time. Let's all hope. Go Sioux!
-
Great period for UND. Sioux looked very solid defensively, and offensively they were more fluid, with less mistakes. I'd say UND is poised to score another one or two in the 3rd.
-
I like what I see, except for the fact that UND is still bumping into eachother on the opposing blue line, and turning over the puck. They really need to get over that, or it will lead to goals against in the playoffs. Otherwise, a very good period. JPL probably wants more work, to mentally be in the game.
-
Now that's funny! Anyone know how to knit? What about Kupchella's letter of reprimand. He took it a bit far, I think. Basically threatened to fire Hak if anything like that happens again.
-
The next step is for the WCHA to accept UND's discipline or not. Two games is pretty harsh, so I'm betting this is a done deal.
-
That's a great article. It certainly captures the feel of the game better than all of the other finger-pointing and hypocricy that is going on.
-
Agree. Why was no outrage and talk of fines and suspensions garnered by the Mankato and UW coaches, earlier this year? Can you say "Hypocricy"?
-
UM has 14 drafted players, but is under .500. How the @#$% does that happen? That has to be a burning question in Minny.
-
An old timer who has seen a lot of hockey, made a lot of mistakes, and keeps coming back for more! I sometimes post emotional (especially on game threads), but have learned over the years that personal attacks are not welcome here. And, they should not be tolerated on any forum. Just look at what a junker USCHO's board is.
-
I will agree with you on the Goofs. They are probably the most annoying team in the WHCA. And, what makes it worse is their fans - any good body check draws a huge round of boo's from those losers! But, that has nothing to do with calling out Sagard. Not very cool.
-
Agree. Knock it off Brainerd- you are welcome as a Sioux fan, but no calling out of long time posters is tolerated here.
-
Ice at UM is lousy. Bouncing pucks were the theme of the night. UM played with an edge, which I don't hold against them. In fact, it's uncharacteristic for the Goofs to play physical and scrap. But, it the end, they don't do it very well. Their mindset is all wrong - they scrap when they are frustrated and it isn't to lift their bench, but just because individuals are emotiional. That is the big difference between how UND plays scrappy vs UM. When UND does it, a purpose is served.
-
Tied it up just after UM was beginning to show some dominance. A good sign for the night.
