my apologies as that response was not directed at you even though it appeared that way.

Interesting you mentioned Woken. It appears Minnesota has interest in her as she verbally committed to them for 2016.
-
Nope...But again whatever works for you.

If it works for you to have the mantra of closest to defeating them then by all means...A win or two this weekend renders it a moot point.
-
Actually SCSU was ahead of Minnesota this last weekend in the Saturday game until 2:02 left in the third period so technically they have been the closest to defeating the Gophers. SCSU is also the only team during the streak to hold more than a 1 goal lead with their 2-0 lead after the first period on Saturday.

St Cloud gets their shot first but most likely UND will have as good a shot as Wisconsin had earlier in the year to end the streak. Wisconsin did what no one else has been able to do to Miinnesota and that is to apply some sustained forecheck pressure on the Gophers defense. That is where they are most vunerable. There is a bit of risk in that however as Minnesota is at it's best in a up-tempo game. Not many teams have the speed to keep up but it is better for UND to try this approach rather than lay back and play defensively.

Lucia speaks for Broten, Woog and Parise and saves the world

Ummm...a little confused as this is two questions. -
The real test of where this team is at will be after they have played a series against Wisconsin and Minnesota. 2-1-1 against UMD and Ohio State is decent but those were home games and anything done against Lindenwood...Well, they out-shot them 126-25 in the two games so that speaks volumes about the level of competition that series was.

Just curious...What is vynel?

Facts free here but it probably can't hurt OSU to be playing in a league with all Little Six teams. Skating through different type of walls and matching the wall material to specific coaches...That's some pretty good hyperbole and considering the source I would expect nothing less. This much I know. Vannelli was one of three pretty good defensemen the Gophers have coming in. Beyond that it's just noise coming from the usual suspects. If I wanted to add to the noise I could say this...Vanelli would have been given an oppurtunity for playing time along with the other two. I don't know who of the three would have played the most because i'm mostly just "making this $#@!f up as I go", but I'd have gone with...Brodzinski, Vannelli, then Bishoff.

It is hard to imagine that Twin City news outlets would tie in a local angle like that...Embarrassing indeed. The East and West coasts would say Minneapolis and St Paul is fly-over country.

I could be wrong but Floyd looks like he is a potential day 1 starter and Rhodes is a guy that gives them, at the very least, added depth in the secondary and will get on the field as the third or forth DB. Patterson probably has the biggest bust factor of the three but he does give them some interesting options for special teams and certain sets on offense, like lining up in the backfield somewhat similar to what they did with Harvin. Oh and Ed Lacey reminds me of Ron Dayne.

Agreed. At the least, UND should have had the matchup out east with Cornell and Mercyhurst should have been Minnesota's quarterfinel opponent.
-
Just to irritate the North Dakota fanbase or maybe they think he has the coaching background to do the job? I don't know as it's a guess but it's probably the first one.
-
UND's powerplay is good enough or at least is supposed to be good enough to get the job done. The same goes for penalty killing. They didn't get the job done. Rationalizations about which circumstance is "exponetially more difficult" than the other or "is nothing compared to"? If it's what you have to do then so be it.

They got about 3 1/2 minutes of the major so it did not negate most of it. Having the call for the 5 minute major go your way was the thing that should have allowed them to get a lead of at least 1 goal. UND has a good enough power play to get that done. No excuses, they did not get it done. As Hrkac mentioned, UND had a very good opportunity a little before the tripping penalty that they didn't convert on and they had the better of the play in the second half of the second overtime and couldnt convert there as well.
-
Have not seen this mentioned in the blame the officials conspiracy that comes up on here but UND had the advantage of a call that went against the Gophers as a 5 minute major. I can't say whether that call was right or wrong because I didn't see it but the bottom line is UND had 5 minutes to score as many as they could put in. They didn't get it done so it is not a given that IF they would have had a power play in OT that they would have scored on it. That might be a reason you could say the winner was the the better team. Then again, so might those other 5 games this year and 3 in a row from last year give you an indication as to who is better.

UND really played well but I think just what you said about the depth issue catching up with them is accurate. UND is the one team this year that coud hang with Minnesota and when UND started playing better defensively, especially the goaltender, they really matched up very well. If UND would have managed to pull off the upset they would have had a great shot to win the national title.

Sioux7 can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the game referred to is the WCHA tournament championship game this past Saturday.
-
Sorry for the confustion, but are you suggesting that most of her assists come from all those shots she takes which are rebounds for her teammates and further, that the rebound assists are related to the skill of her teammates to put home said rebounds? So if she didn't shoot so much and her teammates couldn't put home the rebounds she'd be hosed?
-
Good point. So...Kessel is a puck hog...Brandt has no endurance...Outside of Bozek, big and slow defense... I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel (hopefully it's not a train)

Idalski talked about this a little bit in the press conference after Saturday's game. Minnesota has had some games where it did face being down early and has responded in every circumstance by raising their level of play. Soux7 mentioned the size of Minnesota's defense. This is an issue for any team facing them plus it not just the size, they are very moblie and get the puck out of their zone very well. And the thing that maybe is the best weapon for coming from behind is their first line which is very difficult to deal with all-game long. It not impossible for the Sioux to win but like I said earlier it would have been better to have been matched up with someone out east like Cornell for the first game. I would really like their chances in that senario.

WCHA teams, in particular UND and Wisconsin, paid a price this year to be in a league with MInnesota. Speculation for sure but if Minnesota was in either the ECAC or Hockey East this year, those top eastern teams would have experienced a few more losses as well. I agree with the sentiment expressed earlier that if UND beats Minnesota (a big if to be sure) then they have a great shot at winning the national title.
-
It would have been better for UND to have been sent out east but I suppose the law of averages has to catch up to Minnestoa at some point.
