  1. Ummm, you are forgetting about the part where UND can't host any playoffs game. That would kill the football program, because DI-AA, like DII, awards playoff home games based on merit. Imagine telling recruits that because of its nickname, UND will never host a playoff game regardless of record or ranking.
  2. I'm not doubting Standing Rock's resolve against the nickname. I do not believe they will change their minds. Having said that, for the SBOHE to make this decision based on newspaper accounts, and without having a single face-to-face meeting, would prove the settlement was a sham.
  3. Sorry Shawn the Mob has spoken...

    UND v GVSU

People talk about "what if" Winona did this, or "what if" Winona did that. Nobody is saying Chappel should have immediately gone to showers at halftime. He would still be on the sideline if the situation got dire enough. I just think it was a bad coaching decision to put an obviously injured Chappel into a 20-2 game against WINONA STATE knowing that UND's chances against Grand Valley would be dramatically diminished without him. Lennon is obviously a good coach, but that doesn't mean he is immune to making bad decisions from time to time. I'm sure Lennon meant well and did what he thought was best, but it's certainly a valid discussion issue. And it wasn't "20/20 hindsight" for me. I was thinking the same thing at halftime. I wish I had posted something at the time, but I honestly thought there was no way we'd be seeing Chappel in the second half. And Big Game, I'd really like to hear you expand upon this: Are you seriously suggesting that fans criticising and second-guessing Lennon on a fan message board somehow undermines the program? Please tell me you're not making that link... I'd be REALLY be worried about the program if nobody cared enough to second-guess the coaches decisions.
  6. Cavalry was a fun idea to talk about when venting against the NCAA and other nickname opponents, but it has zero chance of happening. Disgruntled fans like us are not going to be picking the new nickname. Given the type of people that will likely be on the new nickname committee, Cavalry will not even make it on the preliminary list. The new nickname will have to be completely innocuous.

That is faulty logic. Chappel was obviously injured at halftime and limped off the field. Most people second guessing the coaching staff is their decision to play Chappel in the second half. That doesn't apply to the rest of the starters. I think it's perfectly reasonable to question why Chappel played at all in the second half at Winona. If Winona were to get some momentum, as you say, then I think Chappel has to go back out there. But I think Winona should have had to prove that they had a pulse offensively before risking Chappel after he was already injured.
  8. Okay, so I've finally fixed the cable from the dish to the receiver and now I still don't get a signal. I've read through this thread about ten times and done everything I can think of doing. I've tried the CBS feed as well. Nothing. The base quality I get is 37-39%. Every once in a while when I'm positioning the dish, the quality will go up to about 45%, but still no signal. As far as potential blockage, there's nothing that hasn't been there the past three winters when my system has worked fine. Is it possible that my LNB is failing and a new one will fix the problem? I have a BEC DBS 2000. Would an XtremeII 0.3dB Standard from Pete do the trick?
  9. It's not just about money, it's about building a fanbase passionate about UND football to fill all those seats. Success at the next level, along with money, will be key to making a new outdoor stadium a reality.

    UND v GVSU

How long have they had football at Grand Valley? 25 years? It's a bitter pill to swallow to see a program like Grand Valley with no history or tradition, but with an abundance of vision and confidence, catch up to and ultimately pass a great and storied, but complacent, program like UND. Grand Valley is deserving of where they are at, but UND should never have allowed itself to be in that position. But the good news is that UND is moving up to where it belongs...better late than never. I wish Grand Valley the best, but all of my focus is on DI-FCS and the likes of Cal Poly, UC-Davis, Idaho State, McNeese State, etc.
  11. Kentucky Wesleyan and McNeese State beat up on them pretty good. They were actually within two toucdowns in the Texas State game.http://www.lionsports.net/football_schedule.html
  12. They went 3-8 this year (2-5 in the Southland Conference), but they played within a touchdown of Tulane on the road. It appears they disbanded football after the 1985 season and revived it in 2003. They play in an outdoor stadium that seats 7,400. The enrollment is approximately 17,000. The school is located in Hammond, LA, population of 17,639.
  13. It would also, in a sense, render moot UND
  14. Are we sure that USD is coming to Grand Forks next year? I don't see why the NCC rotation must continue in this series. 2008 is a new division and a new conference. Won't the conference decide where this game is played? And if so, with USD probably going to SUU and Cal Poly, I could see the conference having the UND-USD (conference) game in Vermillion to even things out and ensure that both UND and USD get one league home game.

    UND v SUU

Not sure where to put this: Meier out at SUU
  16. There is no policy that says that, but the question is whether the settlement agreement requires it.
  17. Idaho State appears to be quite similar to UND. An enrollment of 12,676. A domed football stadium that seats 12,000. Pocatello has a population of 51,466. FWIW, Idaho State went 3-8 this year (2-6 in the Big Sky).
  18. I'm sure he can and maybe he will, but having carried the ball only twice this year for 3 yards, I wouldn't have too high of expectations for him.
  19. I think it's pretty much a given that the upcoming "government to government" negotiations serve only as political cover for changing the nickname. With this kind of environment at Standing Rock, I doubt anyone seriously thinks a deal will be worked out.
  20. If they red-shirt in the 2008 season, UND will be playoff eligible for their senior year.
  21. You're right. No fan should ever second guess coaches on message boards.
  22. <shrugs> Chappel still should not have played after his injury in the first half. There was no way Winona was winning that game. The bottom line is that UND did not need Chappel to beat Winona State, so there was no reason to risk aggrevating his injury...and quite possibly the season.
  23. Ok, let's just give up then, concede we are and will always be a little old DII regional school, and make everyone listen on the radio. NDSU is ahead of us, in large part, because of the small-time mentality shown by UND's administration and many UND supporters. In my opinion, UND should be striving toward televising EVERY football game. We're obviosuly not there yet, but that should be the long-term goal. There should be no reason not to expect the biggest games of the year to be televised. This argument might make some sense if you were talking about a home game. I'd still disagree with it, but at least it would make sense. But making this argument with the game in Michigan makes absolutely no sense.
