  1. I think most sports bars now subscribe to sports packages, instead of having a Big Ugly Dish (BUD). Thus, they can pick up Fox Sports-New England, Fox Sports-Michigan, etc., but they can't pick up random feeds. I suppose it's cheaper for the bar, while still getting most of the popular sporting events. I have yet to find a bar with the capability of picking up a KU Band feed. If I do, I will definately share that information on this board. The first Sioux game that might be on TV in the Twin Cities will be one of the games at St. Cloud. Last year, Channel 45 covered the Friday night game. I'll keep my eyes open to see if they are covering one again and maybe pick a place where Sioux fans may gather and cheer for the good guys.
  2. I am a GF transplant living in the Twin Cities. I am very interested in watching Sioux hockey games on television down here in the Twin Cities. I know that all Sioux home games are on a KU satellite feed. The problem is that I believe you need a Big Dish to get this KU feed. I know of nobody in the area with a Big Dish. I've called some sports bars inquiring as to whether they could pick up such a feed, and none of them can (or if they can, they are unwilling to do so on a Friday or Saturday night). Anyway, if anyone out there knows of an establishment in the Twin Cities that has the ability and the willingness to pick up the feed and broadcast the games, I could easily line up a handful of people to watch them on a regular basis. I highly doubt this post will bring me any good news, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There's been some talk by Sioux "insiders" about how some of the players are performing in practice, but I haven't heard anything about Mike Prpich. Has anyone close to the program heard anything about how Prpich is playing in practice?
  5. Here is the complete list of the WCHA coach's poll, as reported by uscho.com 1. Denver (6) 78 2. Minnesota (3) 74 3. St. Cloud State (1) 59 4. Colorado College 57 5. North Dakota 53 6. Wisconsin 42 7. Minnesota-Duluth 33 8. Minn. State-Mankato 21 9. Alaska-Anchorage 20 10. Michigan Tech 13
  6. I picked UND 5th. I wouldn't be shocked if they finished higher because I think there is a possibility that this team can be really good if a few key players step up. I think the phrase that describes my feelings is "cautious optimism." If the team finishes higher than my prediction, then I will be happy to be wrong. Plus, for me, "prediction" gradually becomes "expectation" and that's not good for the mental health if the team starts to struggle.
  7. 1. Minnesota 2. Colorado College 3. St. Cloud 4. Denver 5. North Dakota 6. UAA 7. Minnesota-Duluth 8. Wisconsin 9. Michigan Tech 10. Mankato Minnesota is just too strong and will win easily (but maybe choke in the NCAA's???) I think the point gap between second and last will be much closer this year than in recent memory. I also think there will be ties somewhere in the standings, but my predictions factor in the tie-breakers. Many of the positions won't be determined until the last weekend of the regular season.
  8. I have lashed out? I believe you were the one who called a University President a racist without any supporting facts.
  9. I think this might be the stupidest post I've ever read on any message board. Obviously, JBB, you have fallen into a subject you know nothing about and are now simply taking jabs at UND wherever you can. Luckily, I think most Bison fans are not so immature as to take the rivalry to this level. In reading all your other posts, it's really cute how you refuse to capitalize UND or the 'g' and 'f' in Grand Forks while always capitalizing NDSU and Fargo. Are you 12? I think your visceral hatred of all things UND and Grand Forks speaks to your insecurities about NDSU. If you truly believed UND didn't matter to NDSU, you wouldn't be on our board daily spouting off against UND and Grand Forks.
  10. In other Sioux-Vikings news, Kleinsasser is out 2 to 4 weeks with a small fracture of the tibia in his right leg.
  11. It appears as though the Vikes are going to pick up Gary Anderson for field goals and PAT's and will likely retain Brien for kick-offs. I've heard no mention of Peterka down here in the Twin Cities.
  12. Today's Herald editorial came out in favor of UND staying DII. If Tom Dennis thinks UND should stay DII, then UND should definately move up to DI immediately.
  13. I realize what they're trying to do, but does UND stay put just to spite that theory? That would be stupider than taking the bait IMO. The reality is that somebody had to do it first. Is UND being pressured into it? Probably. But who cares? Maybe a little outside pressure from it's biggest rival is just what UND needed to stop being complacent. This decision is long overdue.
  14. "...at least for Grand Forks." It's already starting folks. JBB's condescending comment is just the beginning. If UND stays put, Sioux fans better get used to all the Div. II jokes and small-time college references from NDSU fans. It will all be legitimate too. Throw logic out the window. NDSU being in a better class than UND is unacceptable. Sicatoka, I hope you're right. But in case you're not, here's my rant: A lot of the negativity toward NDSU on this board is nothing more than frustration and envy. Face it. Us Sioux fans have long considered UND the flagship university of this state. Sioux fans have taken pride in the fact that Sioux hockey is the only DI sport in the state and that no matter what NDSU did, it was always just a little beneath UND. I know NDSU moving up and UND staying put is hard pill for me to swallow because in my mind NDSU should NEVER be in a better class than UND...in ANYTHING. I don't care if NDSU loses money while it establishes itself as a DI program. I don't care if it gets killed in a few games. That won't make me feel better. A few years down the road, will it really matter if UND has a better record than NDSU because it beats up on Augustana, Crookston, Duluth, and Moorhead? Will it really matter whose athletic department is losing money? Will it really matter that NDSU will never again win a national championship in non-football sports? To me, none of this matters. At the end of the day, NDSU will be DI and UND will be DII. Enough said. Should blind competition dictate a school's decision whether to move to DI? Absolutely it should. To those arguing against UND moving or saying how stupid NDSU's decision is, I say this: Even if you think you have the facts and figures on your side, deep down, you wish UND were going too. I know I do.
  15. I think the 3-week stretch @MN, @AA, @CC will be the toughest stretch of the season. Hopefully the Sioux can get 3 wins out of these 6 games. Also, playing an experienced St. Cloud team so early in the year on the road will be a really tough series for a still relatively young Sioux team. A split would be great, but I will be satisfied with any improvement over last year's series at St. Cloud. I look for a season sweep over Mankato as revenge for what IMO was the lowest point of last season (the home series against Mankato).
  16. I just meant the whole rivalry thing between EGF and Warroad. I know Eades is not personally liked by many involved with Eastside hockey. That's not to say he's a bad coach, just not liked.
  17. I think many Eastsiders cringe at the thought of Eades coaching the Sioux.
  18. I have not personally seen the kid from Champlin Park play (Mahmoud), but since moving down here to the northern suburbs, I have spoken with guys who watched him play in high school. I've been told by knowledgeable HS football fans that he's really fun to watch. I was told by one observer that he was one of the best running backs he's seen in the nothern metro in quite some time. He evidently has all the tools to play at the DI level except for size. Many people down here are surprised that there has not been more buzz about him up in Grand Forks.
  19. According to the new roster, the returning players gained a total of 140 pounds. This averages 7 pounds per returning player. Obviously, I doubt the roster is 100% accurate as there is probably some exaggerating going on. But if a small player like Palmiscno could put down whatever weight he wanted, why would he report a 5 pound loss? Perhaps the roster is somewhat accurate...or perhaps some players choose to fib on their weight and others choose to report exactly what it is. IMO, not a big deal either way...just something interesting to talk about.
  20. Palmo is an eastsider. I don't know about the other incoming players, but I'll take Brady Murray over either. The way I look at it is that UND will never get all of the talented ND kids. The lure of the "big-time" college in an urban setting is too appealing to some kids. I think on the whole, UND is doing a pretty good job recruiting ND kids. Although seeing 3 ND kids on the gophers at once will be pretty strange. As far as room, will Dahlen be a scholarship or walk-on player? I pretty much wrote Ryan Potulny off as soon as Grant scored the OT goal against Maine. UND's chances went from slim to none at that point, IMO.
  21. I am not going to write him off, but the 4 Sioux D-men you mention above all have size, which Dahlin does not have.
  22. LSSU's website has him at 5'11 180 lbs. Last year he scored 3 goals and had 7 assists for 10 points in 35 games played. He had a -20 +/- (but most of the team was in the red as well) He had 4 penalties (8 mins).
  23. I see that he played at Sioux City (USHL) before LSSU and that he playes Defense.
  24. SCCC has enough internal problems to deal with as well, but that hasn't stopped them from taking an active position against the Sioux nickname and logo and asking the WCHA and the NCC to ban American Indian nicknames. The last time SCCC brought the issue before the WCHA, it was voted down 9 to 1.
  25. I've also wondered why Eastsiders are so conflicted in their college hockey loyalties.
