  1. I don't think the problem is that bad. I think they can both exist cooperatively and both serve their respective purposes. I think one of the main problems is that the Alerus needs an attached motel to really distinguish its purpose from REA. Of course the two entities will step on each other's toes from time to time. The Alerus officals need to stop publicly whining about it when it happens. If they have a problem with a particular booking, they should directly contact REA officials and not complain about it through the media. If you want to talk serious whining...look no further than the motel owners in Grand Forks. The Alerus definately needs an attached motel to make it profitable. I hope this project goes through despite these objections because it will be big boost to the region.
  2. The big question is how did Rachel Blount slip the word "Sioux" past the p.c. editors at the Star Tribune?
  3. "His (Bjork's) contact with Myron was not as an agent but as a friend," Glas said. "He has been Myron's friend and mentor since his sophomore year of high school. He was just helping Myron out. He's helped out a lot of kids." This sentence makes me question the "family friend" angle. The story says Bjork had been a friend and mentor since Myron's sophomore year. Hmmm, is it coincidence that they became friends right about the time where agents determine if a kid is going to be good or not? And did they become "friends" based on the fact that Myron was a good basketball player? Almost certainly yes. If Bjork had been a family friend since Myron was 5 years old, I would change my opinion.
  4. I'm not sure if his stats have been reported elsewhere, but here they are. 14 games 2-3-5 +4 51 pim 7 shots Green Bay Gamblers stats
  5. I've sat in the lower bowl in the end this year at the X. I hated it. I couldn't stop concentrating on the net. Maybe I would get used to it after enough games, but I couldn't stand it that night.
  6. Saturday night's game is on FSN so I assume it's on up in GF. Friday night's game is on KSTC Channel 45 in the Twin Cities. I doubt this is available up in GF. I've heard that Friday night's game is also on tape-delay on FSN. I wonder if the Gophers have anything similar to the Sioux as far as television coverage on satellite? Probably not considering their television contract(s) with Fox and KSTC.
  7. Really? Hmmm, it seems like you've been spending quite a bit of time in here with us chest pounders and beer sloshers. Oh, and thanks for calling me a racist again. As long as you believe that all people who want to retain the Sioux nickname are racists, we can agree that this debate is meaningless.
  8. Surprise surprise...SDSU fan is crying racist again. For the record, racism doesn't meet my agenda either. However, I do not believe the Sioux nickname is racist. Many on this board (including me) have articulated their reasons why they support the Sioux nickname. SDSU fan, I'm still waiting for you to articulate an argument against the nickname that goes beyond making conclusory statements about racism. Is it fair to assume you don't have one?
  9. It's nice to see "our" side finally get some fair press. Does anyone have any further insight into this conference call with Barnes & Noble? Who took part? Is any action pending?
  10. Ziegelman committed to Minnesota? What? Someone must have paid him because there's no way he would have chosen to go there otherwise! Seriously, while I don't like UND losing yet another ND kid to the Gophers, I wish him the best nonetheless. The reaction on this board when UND loses a top local kid is quite different than the reaction on POI when MN loses a top local kid. I'm not saying arrogance has anything to do with it, but.....well, yes I am.
  11. A quick question: If Manitoba defeats Bemidji State and UND defeats Brown, will UND v. Manitoba be considered a real game, or merely an exhibition (since Manitoba is not in the NCAA)? I assume it would be an exhibition...meaning the game wouldn't count in the win/loss column and the points by the players wouldn't officially count. Anyone have any insight?
  12. SDSUFAN - It's so easy call people racist without backing it up, isn't it? I'll respond to your question. You ask why some UND students come to SDSU to "educate" people about how the nickname and Engelstad Arena are offensive? The answer is because they have a political agenda. They go to campuses where students OBVIOUSLY have no knowledge about the issue and try to persuade them to adopt their position. It obviously worked with you. Too bad they didn't "educate" you well enough to be able to back up the position with facts when challenged, rather than resorting to the oldest trick in the book -- crying racism. I addressed your question...let's see if you will address any of the questions/issues I posed.
  13. First of all, nice loaded question. You have posed a classic "do you still beat your wife?" question. Putting that aside, I have spoken with non-UND student American Indians (as they preferred to be called) about the Sioux nickname. Most respond positively in favor of the nickname. And those who don't always are more negative about the white-lead protests on campuses than they are about the nickname itself. I know other posters on this board have been on the reservations and spoke to the people there about the issue. Maybe they can share their experiences as well. Granted, the percentage of Indians at UND who oppose the nickname is likely higher than the Indian population as a whole, but why do you think that is? Could the indoctrination by white liberal professors have anything to do with it? And you ask "how are they honored?" Well, that's easy. The nickname can stand for courage, strength, honor, tenacity, etc. just as easily as whatever you think it stands for. I would argue that it is mostly used respectfully. I would agree that a few things at the Ralph should change (like the Sioux-per Dogs), but that's no reason to scrap the nickname altogether. Somebody else may have a link, but I remember when the new logo was unveiled, Bennet Brien stated what each part of the logo stood for. That would probably be a better answer to your question than anything I could say. And, you're avoiding the Harris Research Study. What would you say to the 81% that are not offended and do not think Indian nicknames/logos should be changed? Would you say to them that their opinion does not matter because it is the "incorrect" view? Would you say, "sorry, the nicknames must be changed because the 19% who disagree with you are much more vocal"? What would you say to Jeremiah Holy Bull and the other American Indians (see picture on main page of this site), who choose to use the nickname as an opportunity to educate non-Indians about their culture? Would you have the audacity to tell them that they are not smart enough to tell they are being deceived? I do not view American Indians as poor victims who need the white man to stand up for him and tell him how to think. Who is the elitist SDSUFAN? And I am not going to let a handful of activists, lead by white liberal college professors, convince me that they speak for all Indians.

    Fan bus

YaneA: Thanks...I'll try to find out where the designated visitors section is and get tickets in or near that section.

Myself and some friends are making the trip to Madison as well. Do you know where Al and his group usually sit in the Kohl? It might be nice to get tickets and sit in a section with a large number of Sioux fans.
  16. We had a big screen and a couple other TV's with the Sioux game at the Senser's in Roseville. There were about 10 of us Sioux fans there...including Brandon Bochenski's mom.
  17. Maybe...but the Roseville contingent is much cooler!
  18. I think yelling "You Still Suck" when the opposing team regains full strength is much more UND's style than "That's Debatable"
  19. I guess I haven't noticed it...there must not be that many that do it. Is this chant common among other teams' fans as well? I assumed it was a just a Gopher thing...where at least half the arena yells it. Unless it's common (like "sieve" and the beer song), UND students should stop doing it. There's nothing worse than copying a Gopher cheer and doing it poorly in the process. Well, I suppose actually losing to the Gophers is worse.
  20. I can tolerate the M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A rouser at UofM athletic events. That's their thing and I can understand it. But it REALLY annoys me when I hear it anywhere else...like in the parking lot after a Twins game. Also, the crowd yelling "Always Were" or "That's Debatable" after penalties expire is quite annoying. [As an aside, I thought I faintly heard this at the REA during the Wisconsin series. Anyone else hear that? In my opinion, ANY Sioux fan caught yelling this at Engelstad Arena should have their season tickets taken away from them.]
  21. I'd drive to Bloomington if I were by myself, but I'm going with a couple northern suburb guys, so I think I'll stick with Roseville. Thanks for the offer tho. Anyone is free to join us. Maybe I'll post this on uscho as well.
  22. I have reserved a television at Joe Senser's in Roseville for Saturday night's game on satellite. If you are interested in watching the game, please reply on this thread so I can give them an approximate number. If there are enough of us, the manager will probably give us a big screen.
  23. According to this release, the tribute will take place prior to Saturday's game and in between periods. http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/news/r...RELEASE_ID=1637
  24. Here's an article from the Herald about the players that signed. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/s...rts/4653010.htm
  25. I too will go on record against bringing in a new goalie mid-season. Jake is only one game removed from his excellent weekend against Wisconsin. I sat behind the Sioux net for the 1st period of the Friday Mankato game. Maybe Jake wasn't extremely sharp, but I didn't think he had a chance on at least three of those goals. I believe two were 5-on-3 power play goals. The entire team is to blame for that first period, not simply the goalie. Jake then came back in the 3rd and didn't give up a goal. I haven't seen a really bad performance by the goalies since the Friday night game in St. Cloud. Just my two cents.
