  1. Let's concentrate on Winona first of all, but I am confident about UND's chances in Omaha. UNO had to come from behind in the 4th quarter to beat the Sioux earlier this year, and Manke was not anywhere close to 100% healthy at the time. If South Dakota can conquer their road woes and get past Northwood, they will be the best team that GVSU has faced this season, hands down. USD is the best DII team that UND has faced this year in my opinion. Keep in mind that USD got shafted in this process too, due to the NCAA's vendetta against UND. They were #3 coming into yesterday's game. There is no legitimate argument that one can present to support the #3 team losing by 7 on the road to the #2 team on the final week of the season where the #3 team should drop to #5, now 3 spots behind #2 UNO, who USD thumped convincingly a couple weeks ago. USD should be hosting next week. Again, I've never seen a #4 get rewarded so greatly for beating a #12 at home.
  2. It is obviously retaliation for the granting of the injunction. There is no reasonable explanation for a #2 dropping down in the rankings for winning against the #3, while at the same time being surpassed by the #4 seed. One would be hard-pressed to find a scenario from the past in which a #4 ranked team was rewarded so greatly on the final week of the season for defeating the #12 ranked team. I know UNO won head-to-head against UND, but that is a weak argument to move them up two spots and ahead of the Sioux based on a one-point win in Omaha.
  3. What a great game today! I think that this was the best 4 quarters that the Sioux have put together (save for maybe Northern Iowa) all season long. And they did it against one of the best football teams that I have seen this year. I will not be surprised if UND meets USD again in the playoffs. Their team speed was very good, Logan was awsome to watch as always, and I was very impressed with their freshman QB. I must say I was a little surprised that they didn't have Logan run the ball more than they did. A game like this couldn't have come at a better time, heading into the post-season. Manke was stellar, Chappel was solid, Dressler is Dressler, and Hellevang really impressed me today with a 44 yarder and a 51 yarder. The defense was good against a very explosive offense, especially the pass coverage was much improved today compared to the last 3-4 weeks. Congrats to Coach Lennon, the staff, and the team on another NCC title. Now, the march is on toward Florence!
  4. The game would probably be held at St. Cloud State..........
  5. The Sioux men are picked to finish 6th this season in the NCC media poll. NCC Media Poll 1. Minnesota St. 2. St. Cloud St. 3. South Dakota 4. UM-Duluth 5. Augustana 6. North Dakota 7. Nebraska-Omaha
  6. What time does the hearing start today?
  7. USD's task force has recommended that the University move to Division I. Their President will make a final decision before the end of December. Link
  8. But isn't the NCAA all about providing the best opportunities for the student-athlete?
  9. Also remember what a different team UND was in last year's game once Manke went in? I expect that team to be on the field from start to finish this weekend.
  10. I feel that adding a school or schools like UND and/or Denver would lessen the flight risk of the Montana schools. Both of their schools, or at least their fans, were very supportive of the idea of adding NDSU and SDSU. There is no compelling reason to think that they'd feel otherwise about UND is there?
  11. That is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.
  12. Montana schools aside........... Idaho St. would be more intriguing to myself and I think most UND fans than say IUPUI, IPFW, Oakland because it is a state named school with an enrollment similar to that of UND. Weber St. would be more intriguing to myself and I think most UND fans than say Centenary because it is a large public university in a large market that has some history of athletic success like in basketball. I'll even throw in Northern Colorado (despite their recent troubles) is more attractive than say Southern Utah because they are familiar to UND fans, and may provide the opportunity for games on the Altitude network. Denver (however unlikely) is a known target for future Big Sky expansion. If they and UND were ever in the same all sports conference, UND fans would be very interested in those games. The other big advantage of the Big Sky is that football would be in the same conference as all the other sports. That would help to develop rivalries for all sports rather than having to have different rivals for basketball and different ones for football. Having said all that, I'd be ecstatic if the Mid-Con invited UND at some point during the transition.
  13. I thought the hearing this weak was to look at getting an injuction against the NCAA not allowing us to host playoff games?
  14. I'd prefer the Big Sky and echo all of the reasons stated by star2city. But if the Mid-Con came calling early on I would jump at the chance to join. I prefer the Big Sky for obvious reasons. Games with large public universities that are similar in scope to UND like Montana, Montana St., Idaho, and Weber St. That combined with non-conference games in fb and bb with NDSU and SDSU would make for nice schedules every year.
  15. That would be nice, considering the magnitude of this game, and depending on what happens in court on thursday, it could be our last home game. However, as it is opening weekend for deer season, I'd be surprised if there are over 8,000 at the game this weekend.
  16. I was thinking the same thing now that you mention it. I listened to the whole Purdue game and didn't hear any mention about him. I was in and out alot during the Indiana game so I could have missed that if anything was said.
  17. Just a few thoughts after the exhibition games. The team did some good things in the Purdue game. Namely rebounding. Not many bright spots in the Indiana game, but team rebounding was fair in that game, except allowing Indiana 20 offensive rebounds. Part of that though is that they are Big 10 team. Emmanuel Little had two very good games. In the two games he averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds. He was the brightspot in the Indiana game. Turnovers were bad, especially against Purdue. I know they are Big 10 teams so they'll force more turnovers in a game against a team like the Sioux, but in the Purdue game alot of it was mental errors like lots of travelling calls and carrying the ball calls. They did improve alot in that area in the Indiana game. Freethrows. Under 50% for the weekend. That is horrible. I don't care if they're playing against Jordan, Bird, Magic, Wilt, and Shaq, they gotta make more than half their free throws. Definately a learning experience.
  18. Hoosiers 88 Sioux 44 4 minutes left. Swyg said Coach Jones is furious about something, glaring at the Indiana bench. Also said the Hoosiers alot more athletic team than Purdue Little has 20 points
  19. Indiana 71 Sioux 36 9 minutes left
  20. Hoosiers 63 Sioux 32 11 minutes left
  21. It is going to be a huge and exciting game next weekend with alot of implications. If UND wins we get a share of the NCC title. More importantly, if UND wins, they'll probably get the #2 seed going into the playoffs. I think it is going to be another thriller. After yesterday, USD is coming into this game with top overall defense and offense in the leauge.
  22. Hoosiers 56 Sioux 24 17 minutes left in second half
  23. Halftime scoring leaders for Sioux Gutter 10 Little 9
  24. UND and USD played for the Sitting Bull trophy from 1953 to 1999. As far as I know, unfortunately the Sitting Bull trophy is locked in a dark storage closet somewhere on the UND campus. I agree though, they should have come up with another trophy if they had to discontinue the the use of the Sitting Bull. Perhaps since both are Law schools, a giant judges gavel would be appropriate, or something. BTW, I think all Sioux fans should adopt Central Washington as our second favorite NCC team this week, as they will be hosted by Omaha.
