If the weather is poor, I'd imagine it would favor neither team...............they both have to play in it don't they? Personally, I perform poorly in cold and snowy weather!

O.K., I'll chime in. I was hoping that USD would make the jump to DI at the same time as UND. What are the odds that UND and USD "partner-up" through this move in the same fashion that SDSU and NDSU did (who act like conjoined twins ) ? What are the motives of these two schools, who do in fact have alot of similarities? I really don't know if I see UND and USD packaging themselves in the same way. I think UND has its sights set on the Big Sky. USD would probably prefer the Mid-Con if either of our schools were in a position to pick and choose (which they are not). I think we can expect to see alot of the Coyotes in the next couple of years, as those games will at the very least be something to look forward to if we have to suffer through a conference-less purgatory type transition, and I look forward to it. I still think by 2010-2011, the four Dakota schools will all probably be in the Mid-Con, although I still hold out hope for the Big Sky. In any event at least we know that our most likely first conference home, the Great West, will at minimum have five members from the Dakotas, California, and Utah.

It think that the impact of the FSSN is actually quite extensive. It is indeed a great asset to UND. The fact that it is on most of the MidCo-served cities in North Dakota, along with it being availabe in the largest cities of South Dakota speaks volumes. I have wandered into many "establishments" all over ND and have seen the FSSN schedule poster on the wall. Another measuring-stick for determining its impact is the number of non-MidCo cable systems that have picked it up, primarily in Minnesota, but also in places like Fargo and Jamestown. The satellite aspect of it is also wonderful. To hear about all of those that gather in Places like Joe Sensor's in the Twin Cities, and R.T. O'Sullivan's in AZ, or watch on satellite from the comfort of their own home from anywhere in the country is a great thing. A school like UND that has Law, Medicine, and Aviation programs that attracts and sends alot of graduates away from the Upper Midwest is lucky to have such a setup as the FSSN, as it keeps alums more "in-touch" with the University so they can follow their team, which no doubt has an effect on contributions. I'd imagine they don't re-air stuff because time is money. They have to pay for the time they have reserved on the satellite that they use. I imagine there would not be much point in putting Sioux Sports Weekly on it, since it airs on WDAZ in GF and WDAY in Fargo, and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both UND's and NDSU's coaches shows also aired in Bismarck and Minot on the ForumComm stations out there? As far as my pipe-dream (I know this stuff won't happen) for what the FSSN could become, it goes something like this: -Televise all football games. (With DI, this could be realistic. Montana and Montana St. get all of their games on TV, and pre-empt network programming to do it. With FSSN, ForumComm wouldn't have to pre-empt any ABC programming.) -Televise all conference Men's and Women's Basketball games played at home. Alot of people think TV hurts attendance. I, for one, think any TV exposure generates interest, something UND basketball desperately needs. Again, we're talking cable, not pre-empting programming on WDAZ. -Re-airing Sioux Sports Weekly at least once, perhaps twice a week. Especially the night before a basketball, football, or hockey game./ -"The Dave Hakstol Show" --I think it is funny that in a state where UND hockey is by far and away the most popular sport in the region, that we have coach's shows for football and basketball, but not for hockey. -I agree with DakotaDan about involving Studio One. Perhaps UND could separate itself from other schools and make a name for itself in the Mass Communications arena by involving students to do broadcasts of features, previews, pre-game shows, even play-by-play. This would also offset the cost of having WDAZ personnel devote their time to UND athletics. -Re-airing of old games on a weekly basis. Specifically, UND playoff FB games, UND-NDSU football games, UND-UM hockey games, and UND-NDSU basketball games. Also replays of National Championship games from Hockey, Women's Basketball, and Football. Could be sticky getting the rights from ESPN though.

That timeframe also happens to correlate with the arrival of Roger Thomas as football coach. That, I believe, was the reason for the Sioux football team's rise in fortune. And it is not like UND football was ever the doormat of college football. Sure, there have been some dark stretches, but they were few and far between and that happens with every program. IMHO, the best Sioux teams were those of Jerry Olson's early 1970's teams.

Ah, I see. I didn't know that.

For what it is worth, I listened online to one of the SD radio stations this afternoon after the announcement was made, and USD's A.D. Joel Neilson said that "I think you can expect USD and UND to be joined at the hip for the next several years". At the very least, It will be nice to have a recognizable regional school that we have long history with to guarantee a few games before we find a conference home. Me too. Please elaborate.

I agree, I intend to watch the game, and I really don't care who is announcing. I'm just thankful it is going to be on. And I love basketball games on TV and think there should be more of them. Anytime any Sioux sport is on TV, it is a good thing.

I heard on KNOX a little bit ago that they heard from Cassie Walder and Pat Sweeney that they aren't sure yet if this weeks football game will be televised and they're working on the bid. That would seem to completely contradict this.

If the national committee had not overruled the Northwest region committe on selection day, this game today would be in Grand Forks, and on TV.

If this were hockey they're would be articles in the Herald about this and Buning would be holding press conferences for damage control. Earlier this week, someone that works for one of WDAZ's competitors told me that in the past they have been interested and put in bids to get the TV rights for UND athletics. On a couple of occaisons they did in fact outbid DAZ, but were still turned down.

I like what I have seen/heard of the Men's team so far. They aren't exactly setting the world on fire, but they are being competitve with some quality teams. They went to OT with Northern who is always a very good team, went down to the wire with Concordia-St. Paul who beat #16 South Dakota last week, and tonight beat Wayne St. who downed #19 Minnesota St. earlier this week. I think there is just cause to be optimistic about the future of the program.
