Hockey Exposure Good or Bad for UND DI Transition
bincitysioux replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in NCAA News
It would appear that UND's hockey ties with Wisconsin could pay dividends in the near future. Official: Badgers could play UND -
Despite their policy of not playing schools with American Indian nicknames, the U of Wisconsin says they would play UND in the future because thay are traditional rivals. A mixed bag for Sioux Minnesota and Iowa still say no.

Hockey Exposure Good or Bad for UND DI Transition
bincitysioux replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in NCAA News
This latest reincarnation of this argument is as pointless as the thousands of others that have come before it, of which I have participated in many, although lately I try to refrain. But I can't help jumping in after this comment: That is not entirely correct BobIwabuchiFan. Actually, if one wanted to go to the UM/Iowa game, they were forced to purchase a ticket to the NDSU game. -

Conference affiliation is paramount when it comes to basketball attendance. UND averaged just 1800 for the non-conference portion of their schedule and are averaging 2,542 over their 3 confernce games so far. NDSU basketball attendance will like rise next year when they play a Mid-Con schedule and are in the race for a regular season conference title and as fans become more familiar with those schools, attendance will gradually increase over the coming years. The same will also be true of UND. Look for a very crummy schedule the first few years of the transition and a drop in attendance. It will go up again when we get into the Big Sky.

Colts beat Patriots. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!

Ugghh.......Ed is an invertebrate. He has no spine. On a related note, since Clear Channel owns the rights to UND athletics, what does the sale of their Fargo stations to Ingstad, particularly KFGO and KVOX, mean for the Sioux broadcasts on those stations in the future? I believe the deal signed last summer was for two years. Will they still be on KFGO? Or will they be out of the Fargo market. Regardless, it will make it very interesting the next time the broadcast rights come up for bid in 2008.

Will we have a travelling trophy with USD? We played for the Sitting Bull trophy for 40+ years. Coyotes, Fighting Sioux need a rivalry trophy The reporter basically makes a bunch of jokes about it, but I don't think it is a bad idea. There is a history there between the two schools and alot of similarities. I give credit to NDSU and SDSU for the way they've promoted their games against each other while in the transition, and I think it would be wise for UND and USD to do the same thing until the schools find a conference.

Coincidentally, that was Gene Taylor's official response to UND A.D. Tom Buning when he expressed interest in renewing the rivalry on the football field last summer. That is really a much better reason than UND gave for not continuing play prior to the 2004 season which expressed their desire to protect the best interests of the University and its student-athletes for the sake of making the playoffs and the pursuit of a National Championship. Actually, they did play in baseball after NDSU made the transition. They had an agreement to play in 2005 and 2006. But after UND soundly thumped NDSU in 2005, NDSU quickly pulled the plug on the 2006 match-up. They were not scheduled in men's basketball for the same reason that they were not scheduled in football: because it would have a negative effect on the chances to make the playoffs. Rich Glas had struggled in his final years at UND, and he was not interested in playing any DI programs with the "on-the-bubble" type of squads he was fielding in his last years at UND. Don't be so sure. With Montana St. pulling out of this year's game against NDSU in Fargo, Gene Taylor is scrambling to find two more home games for the upcoming season. There are not alot of programs lining up to get the chance to come to the Geographical Center of North America for a game on 8 or 9 months notice when schedules are often filled 2-3 years in advance. With Tom Buning's eagerness to renew the rivalry, I wouldn't at all be surprised to find the Sioux on the 2007 NDSU schedule. And on a side-note, the last time I heard Tim Miles on KFAN, he was asked about UND's impending move to DI and his response was: "Bring 'em on!". New A.D., new head coach............stranger things have happened.

That could bode well for UND And that could as well

Now I'm really confused. I thought you said the two schools are on bad terms. Now you say they are "indifferent". So which is it, aff......flip, or flop?
-
How many sporting events did NDSU and Minnesota compete in in the five year period prior to NDSU moving to DI? They were obviously on bad terms before 2003. Something apparently changed and they are now on good terms. But UND and Minnesota compete in athletic events every year, so that would mean they are on good terms, right? Except a recent Minnesota policy banning any future UND-Minnesota competitions in any spore except for two, might mean the schools are on bad terms. But they still play in those two sports. So are they friends or not? I'm so confused as to who likes who and who doesn't like who. One thing is certain though: USD and Florida St. obviously hate each other because I don't think they've ever played!!

You can say that again! UND played a fantastic game offensively last night. They shot 60% from the field, 55% from beyond the arc, 93% from the FT line, only turned it over a season low 11 times, scored 91 points, and still lost.
-
Youmens hit a 3 pointer from about 8 ft behind the arc and then Doyle just missed stealing the inbounds to bring it within three. Fouled, MSU hit a free throw and then Boyce hit a three at the buzzer. Sioux end up losing 92-91. Great effort against one of the best teams in DII. What an entertaining group of players. A real fun team to follow.
