  1. Are you aware of the fact that so far this season, UND's opponents have just as many DI wins as NDSU's opponents? Just like, last year, your favorite squad's schedule is shaping up to be a flop.
  2. Since we are joining a 5 team conference and they are joining a 5 team conference, I wouldn't be surprised if we see one of the two on our schedule for the next few years. Neither one of them have been bashful about playing FCS opponents in the past.
  3. I can't believe he can't even get 10 yards per carry!
  4. Just like UND, Western Washington is undefeated against the Great West Football conference, which as nearly all Bison fans like to point out, is without question the toughest conference in the FCS.
  5. Butt-warmers would definately be the way to go.
  6. I agree with those sentiments. IIRC, three of the four finalists were Buning, Bollinger, and the guy from Gustavus Adophus. I can't remember the fourth. But of the four, Buning was known as a fundraiser, and had experience with DI in general, and DI hockey in particular. That's why I liked the hire. It will be hard to find an A.D. that can be both "a man of the people/coaches" (RT, Gino Gasparini), and a "numbers cruncher" (Buning, Wanless).
  7. I guess Gene Taylor dispelled that myth when asked about it by Mike McFeely
  8. It says here that the game will be on Ch. 23 in GF. I sure hope FTA as well. We will know this weekend if the UND-USD game will be able to be seen on the FSSN channel in this area. Midcontinent is televising USD's game with St. Cloud, Saturday, 2:00 p.m. I get FSSN via satellite so I'll search for the game, and if someone who gets FSSN by cable sees that this game is on on Saturday, please let us know here. I see on October 13, we both have games televised at the same time. UND and USD could have a nice thing going here with each of their ventures with Midcontinent if they work together.
  9. I think our passing game will be too much for them to overcome, Freund and Dressler will have big days. UND 38 WWU 17
  10. Will UND end up with a better SoS? Isn't the GLIAC, from top to bottom, perhaps a better conference than the NCC?
  11. I agree with that sentiment as well.
  12. Brandon Brady also needs to take care of the ball better. IIRC, he fumbled twice yesterday, once while running into the endzone that resulted in a touchback. He fumbled once in each of the first two games as well. How come Josh Murray didn't play yesterday?
  13. I'll agree with that. Every sport in North Dakota is secondary to UND Hockey. My only point about reported attendance at the Fargodome is that watching last weeks game it was real easy to see that the place was full. On TV, the stands looked like a sea of stream and yellow. Now last night's game was also reported to be a sell-out, but I would estimate that hundreds if not thousands of what appeared to be something designed for a person to sit in were in plain view all night. Just a subtle difference I noticed. The other thing was that on Tuesday before the SFA game, NDSU estimated that the place would be at or near capacity. On Tuesday before the SHSU game, NDSU estimated a crowd of around 16,500, but then reported an attendance greater than the prior week. Why were they so dead on the first week, and so far off the second? Maybe they did sell all the tickets for this game, but the place obviously wasn't full. Bison fans generally like to attack UND for reporting "paid attendance" while claiming that NDSU reports "butts in the seats" (see Hammersmith's parting comment). That is simply not true. Anyways, its really no big deal to me. You guys get great crowds for your games and kudos for it. I wish that UND could fill up the Alerus as well. In time, I think they will.
  14. I always like to throw my hat into the ring when a discusion about Bison ticket "give-aways" comes up. I don't know anything about "free" tickets to their game today, but I did watch it on TV tonight (very good game by the way). The announcers said it was another sell-out, 3rd in a row! Well, if that was a sell out, they had to have run a last minute promotion this week, and it must have been "Dress Like a Blue Chair Day". Where are all of NDSU's Forensic Accountants when we really need them?
  15. Wow, what a fun game! Louder than heck in the Alerus and down to the wire. Dressler, Chappel, and Freund make for an exciting trio. I know this is easy to say about a guy when he just ran for 300 yards in a game, but does UND possibly have two Harlon Hill candidates on this team with Dressler and Chappel? Some issues that are of concern to me are kick-return coverage and the pass rush. CWU had several looonnnnngggg runbacks on punts and kickoffs today. Need to nip that in the bud. And our pass-rush is not greatly effective. We had 4 sacks today, but CWU threw the ball 49 frickin' times and a couple of those were "coverage" sacks. I just don't think we're getting the pass rush that we have in recent years. I have been impressed with the secondary, though so far this year, which I thought was going to be the biggest question mark on defense. They've played well against two good passing teams in SUU and CWU. I was very impressed with CWU, they've put together some good teams the last few years, and I think they'll have a good chance a challenging for a playoff berth. It won't hurt they're chances that they host both USD and UNO in Ellensburg this season.
  16. The WDAZ story the other night said that the west side would stay in tact, perhaps some remodeling, but would not be torn down. A horseshoe on one endzone or even seating in both endzones could possibly be added.

  18. WOMEN'S SOCCER: UND-NDSU talks heating up
  19. Yes, the game would not have been nearly as close if not for those untimely interceptions. It is too bad for you that they actually make the quarterback participate in the games.
  20. NDSU left the NCC because they are a "football school" and really they were one of, if not THE, most successful football school in the history of DII and perhaps even one of the most successful schools back in the day of the "College Divsion" before the three divisional alignments took place in the early to mid 70's. With their past success, they were fed up with the watering down of DII as their peer institutions had already moved up to DI. NDSU and UND used to compete with the likes of Montana, Montana St., and Northern Iowa. Those schools, and others like them, made the leap in the late 70's and early 80's, and both North Dakota schools should have done the same at the time. NDSU was late to the party. And UND is even later. As far as your proposal for a conference, it is a very nice thought, and I'll bet that all the schools you mentioned would have an open ear to it. But in reality it will never happen. The xDSU's are actually in a better conference situation than the Montana schools, both geography-wise and competetive wise. The Gateway is a better football conference than the Big Sky. The second and third place Gateway teams have a much better chance of getting an at-large bid than do the equal participants of the Big Sky, and that was true before the addition of NDSU which shoud be a perennial contender in the Gateway and FCS. Basketball is the primary concern for SDSU (and NDSU has been making headway in this area before Miles left) and they stand a much better chance of being competitve for the automatic berth in the Summit than they would in the Big Sky, or in a conference that included the schools you mentioned. Then there is NCAA requirements to meet regarding the autobids, which would really be the biggest hang up. On the subject of potential/pipe dream conference arrangements, I still think that the Big Sky is the best option for UND. My newest revelation considers the DI moratorium. By 2011 when the moratorium is lifted, Montana (and Montana St.) will have had to endure 4 more zero to two win seasons by Northern Colorado and still the dilemma of Sac St. Montana, with their stadium expansion and drawing close to 25,000 per game will threaten to leave for the WAC (for real this time). MSU will be quick to follow. But they could be persuaded to stay if 1 or 2 more "peer" schools (UND and USD) are invited to join. Throw in Denver University to appease Fullerton and his thirst for small schools located in big markets, and you have a nice 12 team conference. Go to Divisional play for basketball, but not for football. Instead, adopt a Big 10-like football schedule, 11 football teams, but only play 8 conference games per year, skipping two teams per year. I'll sign the contract when it is in front of me.
  21. There are two football games scheduled to be on FSSN this year, however they are both after the exhibition hockey game with Manitoba which will be the first FSSN broadcast.
  22. Going farther back in history, UND defeated Cal Poly-SLO in the 1972 Camellia Bowl in Sacramento!
  23. Hey Shawn-O, you don't get he Big 10 Network do you. The Gophers have not looked impressive.
