  1. Chicago Tribune I had really hoped that CSU would be included in this conference simply for the fact that it would be the easiest place for many of the schools to travel to, and also for "strength in numbers". I suppose if the team sports like basketball, volleyball, etc don't start until the 2009-10 season, there is still time for them to be added. I was hoping the league would be made up of UND, USD, Seattle, UTPA, HBU, UVU, and CSU, and that NJIT would be left out.
  2. I agree about the day-time power of the station, but the problem is that it powers down so much at night time. With more night football games and hockey of course, not sure if it would be the best idea.

  4. Preseason top 25 is out. Cal Poly is 10th. Sioux opponent Southern Illinois is #21. Other schools in the region included in the poll are Northern Iowa at #3, Montana at #6, NDSU at #8, and Montana St. at #19.
  5. The volleyball team will also be playing Western Oregon in a DII tournament in California....... and will play AT Gustavus Adolphus..... I understand that scheduling is extremely difficult this season, but come on.
  6. Big Sky TV is a webcast service that broadcasts virtually all Big Sky sports online. I watched it the first two weekends it launched (it was free at that time). Reading message boards of Big Sky schools, they are generally unhappy with the service. Sounds alot like Dataflix. Hopefully it has been improved for the upcoming season. Big Sky TV
  7. I think it is a dumb idea. The Fargodome is full now on Saturdays. Within two years the Alerus Center will be full on Saturdays. I could really care less if the two schools ever play again. They've both proven they don't need each other. Having said that, if it does happen, I of course will be there, in Fargo, which is where the first game will be. Not because it is Sioux-Bison and I'm desperate to see it like Mplsbison, but because it would be a close road game, just like I've gone to St. Cloud and Vermillion. As far as how many people would show up, ~60,000 is preposterous. There is ~21,000 UND alums in Minnesota , and I'd assume about the same number for NDSU. If a Sioux-Bison game in the TC drew between 15,000-20,000 I'd be amazingly impressed. And if I were frothing to see the rivalry renewed............... ......Why would someone like me, who pays FSC dues, pays for 4 season tickets, drives 100 miles every Saturday to see all the home games, be in favor of giving "fair-weather" TC fans the opportunity to see a game? So, yes, alot of people, both UND fans and NDSU fans would have basis to complain. It really doesn't matter though, because I doubt this would ever happen.

    Stroup

Stroup reached a plea agreement. Plead guilty to disorderly conduct and fleeing, the rest of the charges were dropped. He'll spend 2 weekends in jail and perform 110 hours of community service. WDAZ Video
  9. That trip to Seattle is for a tournament, and we will also play Bryant while we are there.
  10. Add a game @ Drexel to the schedule for UND.
  11. Regents to decide UTPA conference membership on Friday
  12. Thinking long term, Denver will be out of the Sun Belt by 2012-13. They have alot of time to make preparations, but if they cannot find a new home, one has to consider that they could eventually be a possibility to be a member of this "conference". Hopefully we have an established home by then, but there is a good possibility that we may not. Starting 2009-10, the Great West (all-sports) could look like this: UND USD UTPA Houston Baptist Utah Valley Chicago St. *Seattle I'll include Seattle because they're already working with the UxD's and SIU-E this year on scheduling so they could possibly do the same with the others, despite travel costs. That is how I'd like to see it for now anyhow. I doubt that New Jersey Tech, Longwood, and Savannah St. would join on an all-sports basis because there are so many schools out east for scheduling options and travel would be horrendous, but I could see them joining as basketball members. New Jersey Tech and Longwood have had home-and-home arrangements with UTPA, UVU, and CSU for a several years. Same idea for CSU-Bakersfield. Maybe some basketball games, but they have alot of scheduling options for other sports on the west coast. If 2012-13 rolls around with no huge shake-ups along the conference landscape, I could see Denver joining, or replacing Seattle (I think they have a better shot at the WCC than DU).
  13. Double-headers are pretty uncommon in DI, but I would guess to save on travel expenses for all the DI newbies that the games with USD, Seattle, and SIU-Edwardsville will possibly be double-headers. The home schedule so far is pretty similar to what it has in the past few years to me. I think we were all pleasantly surprised with the women's schedule. I thought it would look more like what the men's schedule is shaping out to be.

  15. Weber St. in softball, they are adding the sport next year. I agree with what star2city said in the other thread, this is basically a formation of a "feeder" conference for, and administered by the Summit. If someone leaves the Summit in an untimely fashion jeopardizing their auto-bid, they can re-align Chicago St. or UTPA into the Summit. It is a good deal in the interim, providing x-amount of guaranteed games and such. It is a glorified United Basketball Conference. I just hope that if it does come to fruition and UND is a part of it, that it does not mean making a long-term commitment to be a part of it, similar to the 5 year commitment we made to the Great West FOOTBALL Conference, which I don't nessecarily think was a great idea.
  16. As far as getting back into the Summit League, I'd think that Chicago St. would be their first choice IF Centenary or SUU leave on their own volition, based on their core member status, geography, and being a former member. Or if IUPUI or Oakland leave for the Horizon after a Big East shakeup. If none of that happens in the next 4-6 years, I'd say the UxD's have just as good a chance in order to give the conference a solid back-bone.
  17. Confirmation that Brewster has left SDSU, but no official word on where he is heading.
  18. Interesting the way they will phase in sports into the conference over time. I wonder if they'll continue to be a scheduling partner with UND in men's and women's basketball over the next few years.

  20. I think USD will be fine from the get-go. Jacks fans like to associate USD's recent success with UNC, NDSU, and SDSU leaving the NCC. Well, that situation also happens to coincide with their hiring of Ed Meierkort. I'm of the belief that Meierkort can just flat out coach. He won at DIII, he has won at DII, and I'm guessing that he'll put a pretty good squad together in DI.
