I think the hockey and basketball teams look pretty sharp when they don the black unis. I have always been in favor of having player names on the back of jerseys. I get the whole "we play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back" argument, but it makes it alot easier for the casual fan to identify players, especially for identifying players for visiting teams.

I hope this is the approach UND takes.............and I mean for the long term. Sioux fans wouldn't be able to follow that mantra for long if we quickly adopt a new nickname like the "Sundogs" or "The Flood". Just North Dakota......THE University of North Dakota. I was trying to figure out what the Day 1 match-ups would likely be for the tournament this weekend. I assume they'll treat it like a conference tournment and "seed" the teams based on overall head to head play. That's tough for me to figure out on the women's side though. Head To Head Records North Dakota: 5-1 Seattle: 5-1 South Dakota: 1-5 Houston Baptist: 1-5 UND and Seattle's only losses came to each other. USD and HBU's only wins came to each other. I don't know if they would use some sort of tie-breaker scenario built in. I could see a scenario where they simply match up UND and USD on the first day to guarantee another match-up between the two actual rivals that are participating in the tourney.

Assuming that "seeding" for this tournament will be based on the results of head-to-head play amongst the participants, I'd guess the opening day matchups will look like this: #1 Seattle vs. #4 SIU-Edwardsville #2 South Dakota vs. #3 North Dakota Head To Head Records Seattle: 5-1 South Dakota: 3-3 North Dakota: 3-3 SIU-Edwardsville: 1-5 I don't know if this is how they'll do it or not, but I'd love to see a repeat of last year's NCC tournament where we surprise the Yotes in a third meeting after getting smoked twice in the regular season.

I wonder how serious Ledger's injury is. Roebuck said on the coach's show tonight (without offering a name obviously) that they still have one scholarship available for next year, and that they are looking at JC player who stands 6'5". He also said that he is hopeful that Privratsky will be able to play next season. But if not, they have what he said is a very capable point guard coming in who is expected to be a walk-on. If Privratsky is ready, they may redshirt the walk-on. Anyone have any ideas as to who these two players may be?

Lacrosse, anyone? Seriously, are people aware that UND kicked off its baseball season yesterday? And that of a 46 game season, only 7 are scheduled to be played in Grand Forks? Some may argue that this is because of the DI transiton, and that is admittedly a significant factor. But not nearly as significant a factor as the fact that there is still going to be 18 inches of snow on the ground until mid-March and the average temperature will get no better than to hover around freezing until mid-May. I still can't figure out why UND ever cut the wrestling program when they did..........they should have cut baseball at that time if it was necessary for the axe to fall.

I would encourage people both wanting to sell tickets, and wanting to buy tickets, to use the Ticket Exchange here on SiouxSports.com. A good rule of thumb though, whether you are buying or selling, is to advertise your tickets or make your "ticket request" at least 10 days before the game. This allows for PM's and email correspondence back and forth, and for delivery through the mail. I would also encourage season ticket holders wishing to sell tickets to use Ticketmaster's "Ticket Exchange" via fightingsioux.com whenever they can. Although it is not as personal a service as posting your tickets here, it is a good option, especially when game day is just 1 or 2 days away rather than a week or more.

UND football's home sweet home

Wayne Nelson Blog Central Arkansas has agreed to return in 2012. There hasn't been any solid confirmation, but many different internet sources have suggested that Northwestern St. is scheduled to be back in GF in September next season. The Stephen F. Austin game is a one game contract.
