  5. I would have thought that with the tiered pricing structure for football season tickets that there would have been a bit of a bump in sales.
  6. This is the banner ad at the top of the Fox College Sports home page...........
  7. I'm luke warm to the idea of a DI UNO. IIRC, other than football, they were always pretty mediocre in every other sport weren't they? Obviously, it would be great for the football side of the Great West Conference by adding numbers to the league, but it could also hurt recruiting for all of the Dakota schools in Nebraska since there is no FCS team there now. On the other hand, they would be a good rival for UND, as they were over the past 10 years or so, especially with them joining the WCHA for hockey.
  8. Your Offensive Player of the Year, Josh Murray of North Dakota, is not playing this season.
  9. That's a horrible argument. Using your logic, if the SWAC added Savanna St. and Valparaiso it would make it a better conference than the MVFC?
  10. Of course you do Rather, CAA is obviously a a superior conference as they get 5 teams in the playoffs to the MVFC's 2 Again, I'm not saying we are more likely to join the Big Sky, just that we are not likely to be invited to either league since both currently have the optimum number of members. Geography is a moot point because of this. Iowa and Iowa St. play in separate conferences. Florida and Florida State play in separate conferences. Colorado and Colorado St. play in separate conferences. I can go on and on and on if you need........ When the MVFC loses 2 schools, it may be more realistic. It's not now.
  11. If the lineup of the MVFC stays as it currently is, the chances of North Dakota being invited is about the same as receiving an invite to the Big Sky.
  12. Utah Valley Picked to Win Cross Country Titles GWC 2009 Preseason Cross Country Polls Men's 1. Utah Valley (6) 62 pts. 2. UTPA (2) 46 pts. HBU 46 pts. 4. South Dakota 42 pts. 5. Seattle 36 pts. 6. NJIT 26 pts. 7. North Dakota 20 pts. 8. Chicago State 10 pts. Women's 1. Utah Valley (7) 63 pts. 2. South Dakota (1) 49 pts. 3. North Dakota 47 pts. 4. UTPA 37 pts. 5. Seattle 32 pts. 6. HBU 31 pts. 7. NJIT 19 pts. 8. Chicago State 10 pts.
  13. Nobody is being negative toward the MVFC. I'm sure every one of us would love to be a member of it. However, most of us know that we won't be invited unless they lose at least two members.
  14. Your argument doesn't hold water. There are 14 FCS football conferences. Only 1 has 12 teams or more, the CAA. The reason the CAA has so many teams is not because it works so well for football, it is because it works so well for basketball and because the geography of the league's divisions is tightly knit. Located along the eastern seaboard, their is a plethora of potential attractive and economical home DI OOC games available for every member of the CAA. Not so much the case for even MVFC teams situated west of the Missouri River. 9 or 10 appears to be the ideal number of football teams within a conference. Allows for just the right amount of non-conference games. If a MVFC team threatens to leave, I suppose you could then consider USD a candidate for membership. Until 1 or more current members (probably would have to be Youngstown leaving) actually leave, don't bet on North Dakota even getting a sniff from the MVFC. The way I see it, unless North Dakota gets an invite from the Big Sky (less than 1% chance of that happening), expect to see North Dakota and USD in the Great West for football for many many years.
  15. Nevermind..............Just heard from the athletic department, and Northwestern St. is still coming to Grand Forks.
  16. Nothern Illinois added to the 2010 Schedule. But Northwestern St. is not listed any more. They were originally scheduled to return this season's game to the Alerus on Sept. 25. Apparently they bought it out? I like the Northern Illinois game, but I liked Northwestern St. in the Alerus better.
  17. It sounds like Norther Illinois' open dates next season are 9/11 and 9/25. We have Northwestern St. on 9/25 so I assume our "tentative" game with them will be Sept. 11.
  18. A poster on Bisonville said that Brian Faison was just on KFGO and said that the buy-out clause was $150,000 or $250,000. Anyone hear the broadcast?
  19. I'm not really wasting my time, since I know the chances are about 1% or less that UND will ever be in the Big Sky. And it's not like lobbying for UND to make a huge push for the Big Sky, I was just saying that personally, I prefer the Big Sky to the Summit, but I like both. I also prefer the Big 12 to the Big 10, but I like both. But things do and can change. Times are tough in CA, particularly in the CS-University system, how viable is Sac State's football program. They're probably fine, but you never know. 2 seasons ago Portland State was putting a stipulation in their game contracts that they would be "off the hook" if they decided to to drop football. Last I checked, the MT schools are in the Big Sky conference. Northern Colorado is appealing to UND fans because the familiarity and past rivalry. Weber St. is an exceptional school. Why do you hate on Idaho St. so much? I know that they are no western power-house in college athletics, but they are a state-named school similar in size to all of the Dakota schools. That alone makes them a more appealing opponent than say IUPUI or IPFW to the casual sports fan. Other than the 3 Dakota Summit schools, where do you rank the rest of the Summit League members in their respective states? That ain't gonna happen, but if it did, why would you want to jettison Oral Roberts, the most high-profile member of your league? On a side note, how does an announcement of two games, one of which won't be played for a year and the other for 4 years, ignite such discussion about conference affiliation? We're also playing two Big 12 schools in men's basketball this year.............where's the UND to the Big 12 thread!?
  20. I only have myself to blame for derailing the scheduling thread to a conference critique-fest, so I moved the last page of conference speculation posts to the Conference Opportunities thread in the reclassification forum.
  21. This isn't related to scheduling, but personally I feel that in general, the Big Sky is a better overall conference than the Summit. You have larger state-named "flagship" schools like Montana, Montana St., & Idaho St., along with a high quality school in Weber St., and a traditionally familiar school in Northern Colorado versus commuter schools like IUPUI, IPFW, Oakland, and UMKC. Don't get me wrong, I would love for North Dakota to get an invite to the Summit..............all the other Dakota schools plus an auto-bid home for every sport. That would be awesome. But on top of the "prestige" factor, a UND fan has to consider that Summit membership means across the board, one set of opponents for football (Great West), another set for hockey (WCHA), and another entirely different set for basketball/everything else (Summit League). UND won't be given the choice, but if they were, I'd take the Big Sky every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
  22. I agree that it is a good thing whether or not Montana ever returns the game, but it if they do buy out the return game, it would be nice if they did it more than six months or so before the season starts like Idaho St. did.
  23. Agree with everything you have said. Along the lines of improvements.......... As far as TV exposure, I'm anxious to see the release of the FSSN broadcast schedule. I'd think there would be more games televised than in the last couple years, this administration seems to see the value in increased media coverage, case-in-point: the new radio network and the increased internet coverage on Fightingsioux.com both by video and blog. IMO, since the Alerus is capable of it and the University basically owns its own TV network, every single home game should be televised on cable/FTA satellite via the FSSN and Midco. I would also like to see at least one football game put on statewide TV each season; homecoming, Potato Bowl, whatever. For the webcasts, isn't the radio already synched with the video? I haven't watched alot of football webcasts but the ones I have I believe had Dan Hammer calling the game. I do watch alot of basketball webcasts, and they are always synched with the radio call.
  24. That's an awesome announcement. I worry about about the Griz not returning the game, as their and other Big Sky schools history suggests (Montana St., Idaho St.). I would think that Faison learned his lesson from Idaho St. last season and commanded a hefty buyout clause. However I don't think North Dakota is in much of a position to be commanding much of anything from Montana. But I'm optimistic because they have been travelling a little more lately......Cal Poly last year, UC Davis this year, and I think Poly again next year.
  25. Great West Conference Coaches Select Cal Poly to Repeat as Champion
