  1. There was more talk on the coach's show tonight about "the 6'5" forward from Devils Lake" (Kate Sharkova). Roebuck said he is pretty high on anyone from Lake Region and that they produce kids who can play. The way Roebuck and Tim & Swyg talked, she is the primary target for this last scholarship that they have left. Sharkova finished the season averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. She was named to the Mon-Dak All Conference 1st Team, and lead the Mon-Dak in rebounding and blocks, and was 3rd in scoring. She is from Belarus.
  2. I think you misinterpretted my post, sorry if I wasn't clear. What I said was basically what you are saying. I said hopefully we could get another money game against a big school (Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, etc.), or an away game against a quality mid-major from say the Horizon, MVC, WCC, etc, that would result in a return game just like this past season's games with UNI and UWGB have. I like how the schedule is looking so far too, both home and away.
  3. South Dakota released their football schedule. Just 10 games for the 'Yotes. They were also bitten by the dreaded "buy-out clause". Both Mcneese St. and DII West Texas A&M backed out on them. USD Schedule Sept. 3 William Penn University Sept. 12 @ University of Northern Iowa Sept. 19 University of Wisconsin, Stout Sept. 26 Southeastern Louisiana University Oct. 3 @ University of North Dakota* Oct. 10 UC Davis (Dakota Days)* Oct. 17 @ Montana State University Oct. 31 @ University of Northern Colorado Nov. 7 Southern Utah University* Nov. 14 @ Cal Poly* I've heard we are close to an agreement with an opponent for the Potato Bowl. Not sure if it is a DI team though. Probably not.
  4. Nice to see Wisconsin on the women's basketball schedule (sticking to their previous statement lifting their ban on playing us due to the nickname). For the men, that's already 24 games that we think we know of, 13 away and 11 at home. I'm guessing we'll see at least 2 non-DI home games (DAC schools) plus probably 1 or 2 non-DI home exhibition games. Hopefully they will be able to squeeze in one more road game against a big-time school for some cash, or one against an attractive mid-major that would result in a later game at the Sioux Center. A post over at the USD Board indicates that they are also playing at Drake's tournament.
  5. I've just been going to each schools website to compile the info.

  7. I wonder if I'm misinterpretting USF's A.D. who is the one who made the "close to $60,000 comment". Maybe he ment the total deal was $60,000 for both games. IIRC, I was told we paid ~$40,000 two years ago to bring in Humboldt St. for the season opener.
  8. Considering that UND is paying NAIA Sioux Falls "close to $60,000", one can guess that the cost of bringing in a DI probably approaches $80,000-100,000.
  9. Now that the season is over for the major sports that are not played on ice, how does everyone feel the teams performed in their first year of DI? Here's my take: Football C+ For me, it was a bit of a disappointing season for my favorite football squad. Despite a winning record and the fact that they competed extremely well in virtually every game, I was rubbed the wrong way quite bit by the home loss to SUU, a team that we destroyed on the road the previous season. And although they are certainly a quality team, I felt we should have won against Southeastern Louisiana. I was also a little peeved by the fact that we let the score get so close against Idaho St. after handling them so easily for the first 35 minutes of that game. On the positive side, I was thoroughly impressed by Josh Murray, he is definately a DI running back. The OT win down in South Dakota was one of the most impressive clutch performances I have seen. All in all I feel it was successful season, winning the games we were "supposed" to win and notching 2 DI victories. I just felt they let a couple games slip away that were well within reach. Men's Basketball B- I have to say that I was dreading this season. I hoped/expected alot, but realistically I didn't think this team would do nearly as well as it did. Finishing 16-12, the guys had their first winning season since 2004-05. Despite some head-scratching struggles early on, Coach Jones (for the second straight season) had his team playing its best basketball at the end of the year. We took DI wins from Missouri-Kansas City, South Dakota, Seattle, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.....and had respectable showings against more DI squads like Northern Colorado, Wichita St., and Texas A&M. Obviously I didn't like the struggles against the DAC schools, or the blowouts against Wisconsin-Green Bay, Montan, or Northern Iowa. But the bottom line is, that this team won the games that it was expected to, and even snuck out a few extra wins that were considered surprises. Women's Basketball B+ I think the women had a great season. They by far and away played the toughest schedule of any of our newbie DI programs, and they handled it pretty well. They went undefeated at home. They racked up 11 wins against DI schools (established and transitional) and nearly pulled off a couple more against Ball St. and Big 10 school Northwestern. They did suffer two really lop-sided losses, but they were to very good teams in Iowa St. and Wisconsin-Green Bay. I either watched or listened to almost all of their games, and I can confidently say that Keira Kimbrough was the best basketball player on the floor in each of the games we played. I think the future is bright for women's basketball at UND.
