  1. Wisconsin and Iowa lifted their ban on UND after we reached the settlement with the NCAA. Minnesota is the only one who didn't.
  2. Anybody been following the Class B? Koeber from Dakota Prairie has been impressive. How high of a "next level" (college) can he play at?
  3. Thank you NDSU fans.
  4. I agree about the negatives of playing a mid-season Thursday night game. Although I do like the idea of the Thursday home-opener like we had last year. I really like the predominant switch to night games in general. The 1:00 start pretty much blows the whole day for anyone who is travelling any great distance. I think the switch to evening games will greatly help attendance, regardless of the opponent.
  5. Ugly news regarding a potential opponent for the Sept. 12 Potato Bowl date.
  6. Coach Jones mentioned Montana on the final episode of Sioux Sports Weekly as one of the teams that will visit the Sioux Center next season. Here's an updated list of next season's tentative opponents: @ Montana tournament (Montana, Loyola Marymount, UND, TBA) @ Drake Tournament (Drake, South Dakota, UND, TBA) @ Iowa State Tournament @ South Dakota @ Chicago State @ NJIT @ UT-Pan American @ Houston Baptist @ Utah Valley @ Texas A&M vs. Northern Iowa vs. UW-Green Bay vs. Missouri-Kansas City vs. Northern Colorado vs. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville vs. Montana vs. Sioux Falls vs. South Dakota vs. Chicago State vs. NJIT vs. UT-Pan American vs. Houston Baptist vs. Utah Valley TBA Great West Conference Tourney I'm really liking how this schedule is shaping up. I'm especially excited about Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Montana as home games. To me, it's really quite impressive to get those teams to come to our place in just our second year of DI. I also really like establishing relationships early on with the DI schools from Iowa.
  7. Daniel Harkins and O.J. Harrison were honorable mention on the Division I All Independent Team.
  8. It was mentioned in a Wayne Nelson blog. He referred to te Women's NIT and the College Basketball Invitational on the men's side.
  9. This refers to the DII Basketball Tournament, but two time Sioux opponent from this season Southwest Minnesota St. has advanced to the Elite 8. Bracket
  10. Anyone else notice that 3 of the 4 home games listed on the schedule at Fightingsioux.com are evening games? I think that is a good move. Also, Northeastern St. has been added to the 2010 schedule as a home game. I've never heard of Northeastern St., but Rocky Hager is the coach of Northeastern. Is that who it is referring to? Anyways, 5 home games already for 2010. EDIT: I'm guessing it is DII Northeastern St. from the Lonestar Conference.
  11. Starting a new thread in order to continue discussions from two other threads of the same nature that have already been closed is not needed. Please refrain from beating this dead horse. I think the theme of this discussion has been set in stone: Bison fans are excited for their team, some Sioux fans are excited a school from their state is representing, some Sioux fans want them to fail. Point taken.
  12. USF is one of 3 teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference that did not report any attendance figures this season. As far as I can tell, they haven't reported any attendance numbers for at least the past 4 seasons. Just for reference, there are 13 teams in the GPAC. Dakota Weslyan led the leauge in attendance this past season with an average of 1,656 per game. The next highest reported total was 742. Total average conference attendance is skewed because 3 teams didn't report, but on average a GPAC game draws 352.
  13. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is about an equal chance of Mplsbison's Summit League Football scenario playing out as there is that North Dakota will get an invitation to the Big 10.
  14. Blog from Wayne Nelson. Maybe a little surprising considering Coach Johnson's parting remarks about the fan support that UND receives.
  15. Loyola-Marymount will also participate in the Montana Tournament.
  16. Sioux volleyball program hires Mike Moffitt as assistant coach With a coaching staff formerly entrenched at New Mexico St. and Texas Tech, I'd say there is a good chance that the Southwest will be recruited fairly heavily in the future.
  17. There was more talk on the coach's show tonight about "the 6'5" forward from Devils Lake" (Kate Sharkova). Roebuck said he is pretty high on anyone from Lake Region and that they produce kids who can play. The way Roebuck and Tim & Swyg talked, she is the primary target for this last scholarship that they have left. Sharkova finished the season averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. She was named to the Mon-Dak All Conference 1st Team, and lead the Mon-Dak in rebounding and blocks, and was 3rd in scoring. She is from Belarus.
  18. I think you misinterpretted my post, sorry if I wasn't clear. What I said was basically what you are saying. I said hopefully we could get another money game against a big school (Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, etc.), or an away game against a quality mid-major from say the Horizon, MVC, WCC, etc, that would result in a return game just like this past season's games with UNI and UWGB have. I like how the schedule is looking so far too, both home and away.
  19. South Dakota released their football schedule. Just 10 games for the 'Yotes. They were also bitten by the dreaded "buy-out clause". Both Mcneese St. and DII West Texas A&M backed out on them. USD Schedule Sept. 3 William Penn University Sept. 12 @ University of Northern Iowa Sept. 19 University of Wisconsin, Stout Sept. 26 Southeastern Louisiana University Oct. 3 @ University of North Dakota* Oct. 10 UC Davis (Dakota Days)* Oct. 17 @ Montana State University Oct. 31 @ University of Northern Colorado Nov. 7 Southern Utah University* Nov. 14 @ Cal Poly* I've heard we are close to an agreement with an opponent for the Potato Bowl. Not sure if it is a DI team though. Probably not.
  20. Nice to see Wisconsin on the women's basketball schedule (sticking to their previous statement lifting their ban on playing us due to the nickname). For the men, that's already 24 games that we think we know of, 13 away and 11 at home. I'm guessing we'll see at least 2 non-DI home games (DAC schools) plus probably 1 or 2 non-DI home exhibition games. Hopefully they will be able to squeeze in one more road game against a big-time school for some cash, or one against an attractive mid-major that would result in a later game at the Sioux Center. A post over at the USD Board indicates that they are also playing at Drake's tournament.
  21. I've just been going to each schools website to compile the info.

  23. I wonder if I'm misinterpretting USF's A.D. who is the one who made the "close to $60,000 comment". Maybe he ment the total deal was $60,000 for both games. IIRC, I was told we paid ~$40,000 two years ago to bring in Humboldt St. for the season opener.
  24. Considering that UND is paying NAIA Sioux Falls "close to $60,000", one can guess that the cost of bringing in a DI probably approaches $80,000-100,000.
