  1. If you are talking about when the NHL was locked out, that is kind of lame.
  2. I consider the "big boy" schools to be any that are a member of a BCS football playing conference. Ohio St. is a "big boy" school, but their hockey ain't so "big time" is it? There are only six BCS schools that place any sort of emphasis at all on college hockey: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan St., Boston College, and Notre Dame. You are correct that UND, UMD, and Denver are "big boys" in college hockey. But if as many schools played hockey as they do football and basketball, all three of those schools would have DII trophies on the shelves instead of DI hardware. Hockey is great, I love it, I have season tickets. I just disagree that it's titles are any more meaningful than an FCS championship.
  3. Would I be way off base to say that the level of quality competition found in DI hockey would be proportionately similar to the level of quality competition in the FCS though? There are roughly twice as many teams in FCS as there are in DI hockey. I'm no great hockey mind at all, just a casual fan, but off the top of my head I can think of maybe 5 to 10 hockey teams that will be in the hunt for a title every single year: UND, UM, UW, Denver, BC, Michigan, BU, and probably a couple more east coast teams that escape me. Aren't there probably 10-20 of the same FCS teams that are usually on everybody's radar to make a post season run every year? NDSU, Montana, App St., UNI, EWU, James Madison, Delaware, Sam Houston, Montana St., GSU, Villanova, Youngstown, Furman, and others that I can't think of at the moment. My point is that it is really probably all relative. For every Alabama-Huntsville in college hockey, there is Savanah St and Austin Peay in FCS. Michigan is a "big time" school in college hockey. Montana and Delaware are "big time" schools in FCS. For every "big time" college hockey school, there are probably two "big time" FCS schools. It kind of all balances out in my eyes. Some say you can't compare college hockey and FCS football. I think it is a great comparison. Unless you, A) are a fan of a school that has college hockey, or B) live in a region where a popular/successful school plays college hockey, you probably aren't going to hear or see a lot about it unless you make an effort to. Same goes for FCS football. Heck, even attendance numbers at the championship games for each sport at neutral venues are very similar.
  4. I don't mean this in any sort of disparaging way, I love Sioux hockey, and I'm guessing I am in the minority here since North Dakota hockey is hands down the most popular sport in the state. But I personally have always been far more impressed by North Dakota's 3 women's basketball titles and football championship than by the hockey titles. Those teams had to climb much steeper mountains to get to the top than the hockey program ever has. Regarding the Nickel Trophy, the Indian Head nickel is still legal tender in the U.S., so I see no reason why it shouldn't be up for grabs if the two schools ever "renew the rivalry" regardless of what our nickname is. Having said that, I think it should only be on the line if the two schools start playing regularly, as in every single year, or at minimum every other season, and I mean regularly. If they can only agree to a home and home 4 years apart, the thing doesn't need to be a part of it.
  5. I think you forgot the purple font.................
  6. So, can somebody not wearing Kelley Green glasses, or Stream Yellow for that matter, objectively evaluate this class? I don't follow recruiting/high school football closely at all. I've been a member here since 2004, and it seems that every single year everyone feels we killed it on the recruiting trail, including during the Mussman era. Recent results would suggest otherwise.
  7. I'm just a Schuler fan in general. I think when he is on the floor, he makes the other 4 guys out there with him better. He works hard, plays smart, and does whatever is asked of him to the best of his ability. Whenever things are going south during a game, it always seems like it is either Schuler or Webb that can calm things down. Regarding Troy Huff, I've often felt he gets more criticism than he probably should. He is a scorer, and his skills are best suited to putting points on the board. Sometimes he takes a crazy shot, yes. But he is shooting over 47% from the field this season. In this day and age that is exceptional for a guard. He's led the Big Sky in steals each of the last two seasons. He gambles a lot defensively, and sometimes pays the price for doing so, but he also creates multiple extra possessions every single game for UND. It is also very impressive how he rebounds for a player of his stature. He is a high risk, high reward player. I'm glad he's been on our side for the past 4 years, rather than having to face him every year. My two cents..................
  8. If this team didn't make the Big Sky Tournament, that would be an epic fail. I think it is highly unlikely that they don't make the Big Sky tournament. But I felt coming into this year that there could have been an outside chance that the tourney would have been held at the Sioux Center. As I, and others, have pointed out, Jones' teams are normally playing their best basketball in February and March. I think (well, hoping) that is going to be the case again this year. The problem is with the history, tradition, resources, and facilities of UND basketball, this program should be able to be good from the start of the season to the end of the season.
  9. I thought Bartels looked quite a bit better than Molberg all season.
  10. We played well enough to win this one. Have just as much talent. But you can see a glaring difference between the two teams as far as how they are prepared and how the execute.
  11. Weber wins by 12
  12. 12-21 from the charity stripe.......
  13. Nash is having a great game. Terrible night for huff at the line. 7-15.
  14. Wow huff missed 4 straight cree throws. Ralston knows a word to describe a 78% ft shooter that does that......
  15. That flagrant on Weber is a terrible call. Huff misses both anhways.....
  16. I don't understand why Schuyler is sitting most of this game.....
  17. That is a terrible continuation.......
  18. Down 11 at the under 8.
  19. Playing with their heads elsewhere now.......
  20. Pretty even game statistically. Type of game that Webb needs to be assertive........
  21. Weber is tough in the paint at both ends of the floor......
  22. The crowd is really letting the refs have it.
  23. Weber plays tough D in the paint. Always thought we were the most athletic team in the league. Weber passes the eye test. 20 rebounds for each team....
  24. Strong finish in the last couple minutes to get it within 6. Nash having a helluva game. Need a strong start in the second half, something that has been few and far between this season.....
  25. Nash playing well.....
