  1. How about this?......... UND Football and UND Hockey both participate at the highest level that the NCAA awards a championship.
  2. My bad. Purple, dude, purple.........................
  3. We played Ferris St. in the playoffs in the Alerus a few years back. I was there. I've heard of them.
  4. That's kind of the point I've been trying to make. Lots of Sioux hockey fans belittle NDSU because they beat teams like Sam Houston and Furman en route to win a title. Lots of Bison fans belittle UND because they've beaten teams like Northern Michigan and Niagra en route to win a title. All are competetive teams in their respective divisions. Both accomplishments are impressive.
  5. Dressler's contract: 2014: $400,000 2015: $500,000 2016: $600,000 He made about $125,000 per year in Saskatchewan. Congrats Weston!
  6. Was just reading the Herald's Op-Ed piece from today. It said that the other tribes in North Dakota oppose the idea. So Standing Rock opposes a casino in Grand Forks? I'm all for it then......................
  7. Looks like Phoenix has the worst attendance in the NHL, and they still draw 2,000 more per game than the Sioux. 25 FCS schools averaged higher attendance than North Dakota hockey in 2012.
  8. If you are talking about when the NHL was locked out, that is kind of lame.
  9. I consider the "big boy" schools to be any that are a member of a BCS football playing conference. Ohio St. is a "big boy" school, but their hockey ain't so "big time" is it? There are only six BCS schools that place any sort of emphasis at all on college hockey: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan St., Boston College, and Notre Dame. You are correct that UND, UMD, and Denver are "big boys" in college hockey. But if as many schools played hockey as they do football and basketball, all three of those schools would have DII trophies on the shelves instead of DI hardware. Hockey is great, I love it, I have season tickets. I just disagree that it's titles are any more meaningful than an FCS championship.
  10. Would I be way off base to say that the level of quality competition found in DI hockey would be proportionately similar to the level of quality competition in the FCS though? There are roughly twice as many teams in FCS as there are in DI hockey. I'm no great hockey mind at all, just a casual fan, but off the top of my head I can think of maybe 5 to 10 hockey teams that will be in the hunt for a title every single year: UND, UM, UW, Denver, BC, Michigan, BU, and probably a couple more east coast teams that escape me. Aren't there probably 10-20 of the same FCS teams that are usually on everybody's radar to make a post season run every year? NDSU, Montana, App St., UNI, EWU, James Madison, Delaware, Sam Houston, Montana St., GSU, Villanova, Youngstown, Furman, and others that I can't think of at the moment. My point is that it is really probably all relative. For every Alabama-Huntsville in college hockey, there is Savanah St and Austin Peay in FCS. Michigan is a "big time" school in college hockey. Montana and Delaware are "big time" schools in FCS. For every "big time" college hockey school, there are probably two "big time" FCS schools. It kind of all balances out in my eyes. Some say you can't compare college hockey and FCS football. I think it is a great comparison. Unless you, A) are a fan of a school that has college hockey, or B) live in a region where a popular/successful school plays college hockey, you probably aren't going to hear or see a lot about it unless you make an effort to. Same goes for FCS football. Heck, even attendance numbers at the championship games for each sport at neutral venues are very similar.
  11. I don't mean this in any sort of disparaging way, I love Sioux hockey, and I'm guessing I am in the minority here since North Dakota hockey is hands down the most popular sport in the state. But I personally have always been far more impressed by North Dakota's 3 women's basketball titles and football championship than by the hockey titles. Those teams had to climb much steeper mountains to get to the top than the hockey program ever has. Regarding the Nickel Trophy, the Indian Head nickel is still legal tender in the U.S., so I see no reason why it shouldn't be up for grabs if the two schools ever "renew the rivalry" regardless of what our nickname is. Having said that, I think it should only be on the line if the two schools start playing regularly, as in every single year, or at minimum every other season, and I mean regularly. If they can only agree to a home and home 4 years apart, the thing doesn't need to be a part of it.
  12. So, can somebody not wearing Kelley Green glasses, or Stream Yellow for that matter, objectively evaluate this class? I don't follow recruiting/high school football closely at all. I've been a member here since 2004, and it seems that every single year everyone feels we killed it on the recruiting trail, including during the Mussman era. Recent results would suggest otherwise.
  13. I'm just a Schuler fan in general. I think when he is on the floor, he makes the other 4 guys out there with him better. He works hard, plays smart, and does whatever is asked of him to the best of his ability. Whenever things are going south during a game, it always seems like it is either Schuler or Webb that can calm things down. Regarding Troy Huff, I've often felt he gets more criticism than he probably should. He is a scorer, and his skills are best suited to putting points on the board. Sometimes he takes a crazy shot, yes. But he is shooting over 47% from the field this season. In this day and age that is exceptional for a guard. He's led the Big Sky in steals each of the last two seasons. He gambles a lot defensively, and sometimes pays the price for doing so, but he also creates multiple extra possessions every single game for UND. It is also very impressive how he rebounds for a player of his stature. He is a high risk, high reward player. I'm glad he's been on our side for the past 4 years, rather than having to face him every year. My two cents..................
  14. If this team didn't make the Big Sky Tournament, that would be an epic fail. I think it is highly unlikely that they don't make the Big Sky tournament. But I felt coming into this year that there could have been an outside chance that the tourney would have been held at the Sioux Center. As I, and others, have pointed out, Jones' teams are normally playing their best basketball in February and March. I think (well, hoping) that is going to be the case again this year. The problem is with the history, tradition, resources, and facilities of UND basketball, this program should be able to be good from the start of the season to the end of the season.
  15. I thought Bartels looked quite a bit better than Molberg all season.
  16. We played well enough to win this one. Have just as much talent. But you can see a glaring difference between the two teams as far as how they are prepared and how the execute.
  17. 12-21 from the charity stripe.......
  18. Nash is having a great game. Terrible night for huff at the line. 7-15.
  19. Wow huff missed 4 straight cree throws. Ralston knows a word to describe a 78% ft shooter that does that......
